She had overstayed a temporary visa issued in August 2023 and has been living with Wilkinson since August 2024.

According to the document, ICE intends to purchase and retrofit eight “mega centers,” 16 processing centers, and 10 additional facilities already used by ICE’s enforcement division. Notably, the ICE memo became public on Thursday after it was circulated to the office of New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte (R), as the agency explores acquiring several facilities in the state.

Just hours earlier, Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) pressed ICE’s Acting Director Todd Lyons on the expansion during a hearing on Capitol Hill. “We expect that you will be sitting not just with the governor, but with local officials, so that they can understand what the impact will be on their community,” Hassan said. Notably, ICE has already received some GOP pushback, with Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) opposing the agency’s purchase of a warehouse in his state.

The report highlights payments made to foreign governments, including Rwanda, Equatorial Guinea, and El Salvador, as part of third-country deportation agreements.

In one case, Rwanda received $7.5 million plus $601,864 in flight costs to accept seven migrants, equating to over $1.1 million per person. Similarly, Equatorial Guinea was paid $7.5 million to accept 29 migrants, costing taxpayers $282,126 per person. Additional payments were made to Palau, Eswatini (Swaziland), and El Salvador.

Despite the apparently high costs, the third-country deportations demonstrate to migrants who frustrate efforts to send them home that they can still be removed from the U.S., to a country not of their choosing. Notably, the investigation found that over 80 percent of illegal immigrants sent to third countries eventually returned to their home nations, suggesting that those claiming they would be in danger in their home nations were being dishonest.

While Congressional Democrats, who largely prepared the report, intended for the data to give the perception of government waste by utilizing third country deportations—or really deportations at all—the cost is comparable to the estimated cost of the illegal immigrants remaining in the United States. Research presented to Congress in 2024 by Steven A. Camarota, the Director of Research at the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), found that the U.S. illegal immigrant population receives around $42 billion in welfare benefits.

Additionally, CIS found that, “Based on average costs per student, the estimated 4 million children of illegal immigrants in public schools created $68.1 billion in costs in 2019.” Meanwhile, illegal immigrants account for about $7 billion in emergency services costs annually.

An ICE officer fired his weapon during the encounter, shooting out the suspect’s tires to stop the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Video from the scene shows a roadside confrontation in which Lopez-Banegas’ pickup truck collided with a law enforcement vehicle. An agent is seen drawing his firearm as the vehicles made contact. The suspect later exited the truck with his hands raised after being ordered to comply.

“In an attempt to evade arrest, Lopez-Banegas rammed into a law enforcement vehicle and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run an officer over,” a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesman said, adding, “Following his training, the officer defensively used his firearm and shot out the tires of the vehicle to stop the threat. Thankfully, no one was injured. Officers arrested Banegas and took him into ICE custody.”

Federal officials said Lopez-Banegas has prior charges, including drug trafficking, drug possession, and driving under the influence. DHS also stated that an immigration judge issued a final order of removal against him in 2021.

Acting New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport confirmed that her office is reviewing the incident. “We are actively investigating an incident involving ICE ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) in which a firearm was discharged in Roxbury Township earlier today. There are no known injuries,” she said.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability are assisting in the investigation. DHS officials said assaults against immigration officers have increased in recent years, including a reported rise in vehicle-related attacks during arrest operations.

Prosecutors allege the boy left his Sun Valley, California, residence to meet Garcia-Aquino, who ran a youth soccer club where Hernandez played. Later, Hernandez’s body was found along a roadside near McGrath State Beach in Oxnard, days after he was reported missing from his home.

“13-year-old Oscar ‘Omar’ Hernandez was an innocent child who was exploited and killed by this depraved illegal alien who should have never been in this country,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said at the time of Garcia-Aquino’s arrest in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

This week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed nine additional sex-related felony counts against Garcia-Aquino, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, involving a separate alleged victim. The new charges include eight counts of sodomy of a person under 16 and one count of oral copulation of a person under 16, stemming from alleged incidents between 2022 and 2023, according to court records.

Authorities allege Garcia-Aquino sexually assaulted and killed Hernandez before discarding his body. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 27, 2026, at which a judge will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. In addition to the murder and new sex-related charges, Garcia-Aquino faces other unrelated felony allegations from 2022 and 2024 involving separate alleged victims.

A Muslim former British Labour Party mayor has been found guilty of perverting the course of justice after helping her son conceal evidence related to his rape of a 15-year-old girl. Naheed Ejaz, 61, who served as mayor from 2023 to 2024, delayed police entry to her home for over 90 seconds on September 12, 2024, allowing her son, Diwan Khan, 41, to hide his mobile phone. The device reportedly contained video footage of the assault.

Khan was convicted at Winchester Crown Court of raping the teenager, which took place in June 2024. Prosecutors said he gave her vodka laced with the illicit drug, MDMA, causing her to black out. She awoke unclothed in the back of his car with no memory of the incident. Khan filmed the attack and later threatened to show the video to her mother and to “slit her throat” if she reported him.

Ejaz claimed the delay was only to wake her son so he could speak to officers. The court rejected this, ruling her actions were intentional obstruction.

Khan, who acted as his mother’s Mayor’s Consort during her term, admitted perverting the course of justice by hiding the phone but denied rape. He was convicted on the rape charge as well. Both Ejaz and Khan await sentencing following the trial.

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has proposed the Cartel Marque and Reprisal Authorization Act, which would allow private U.S. operators to seize cartel assets under government-issued letters of marque. Lee stated, “The Constitution provides for Letters of Marque and Reprisal as a tool against the enemies of the United States. The decision by the New Jersey governor to move forward with the anti-ICE portal has drawn condemnation from the DHS, which asserted, “This certainly looks like obstruction of justice.” A spokesman for the federal department added, “This action by the Governor encourages violence against our officers and obstruction of our operations.”

According to the DHS, ICE officers continue to be the subject of violent assaults by anti-ICE agitators and other radical leftists, having seen a 1,300 percent increase in attacks since the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations began. “ICE law enforcement would not have to be in the field in New Jersey if we had state and local cooperation. Governor Sherrill is not letting that happen, which puts New Jerseyans in danger,” a DHS spokesman said, while pointing to the recent arrests of illegal immigrants in New Jersey, including individuals convicted of crimes such as rape, homicide, and child molestation.

In defense of the ICE tracking portal, Gov. Sherrill repeated the unfounded claim that ICE agents are “disappearing” people—including American citizens—from the streets. “They will pick people up. They will not tell us who they are. They will not tell us if they’re here legally. They won’t check. They’ll pick up American citizens,” Sherrill said.
