Race-Baiting Media Outlet Sold!

G/O Media has sold off left-leaning sports platform Deadspin to Lineup Publishing, leading to the dismissal of the entire editorial team, including Carron J. Phillips, who was controversially involved in defaming a young Chiefs fan in 2023. The announcement was made by G/O Media CEO Jim Spanfeller on Monday.

Deadspin gained negative notoriety when they falsely accused a young Chiefs fan of donning blackface when, in reality, the child was showing team spirit by wearing the Chiefs’ team colors of red and black.

Lineup Publishing initiated discussions about the purchase, planning to take a divergent approach to Deadspin’s sports coverage while being respectful towards its unique voice.

“The decision to sell was influenced by several key factors including the buyer’s editorial strategy, the challenging competition in sports journalism, and a valuation that offered a considerable profit from our initial buying price,” stated Spanfeller in a memo.

This transaction is not the first asset divestiture made by G/O Media in its recent attempt to enhance returns for investors. The company underwent significant restructuring in November last year, and later sold another of its holdings, Jezebel, to Paste Magazine. It also offloaded Lifehacker to Ziff Davis last March, resulting in 13 staff members losing their jobs in June.

In February, Raul and Shannon Armenta, the parents of the young Chiefs fan featured in Deadspin’s ‘blackface’ article, sued the publication. Some have speculated the lawsuit was in part responsible for the sale.

Deadspin is the latest in a litany of once-popular news websites that have ceased operations. In January, Sports Illustrated laid off its entire staff. Two weeks ago it was announced that Vice Media intended to cease publishing on Vice.com and laid off hundreds of employees.

ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE: CNN Refused to Play Commercial About Laken Riley.

CNN refused to air an advertisement detailing the brutal murder of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Georgia, during Joe Biden’s State of the Union address last week. The move, which amounts to yet another narrative assist for the Joe Biden campaign, came after a group attempted to buy the airtime to reach CNN’s otherwise mass migration-oblivious audience.

“It is shameful that CNN is censoring the truth and trying to protect President Biden by refusing to air this ad,” the group said.

A CNN spokesperson claimed the ad did not conform to their “commercial clearance guidelines and policies.”

The controversial commercial features footage from Biden’s 2019 debates and criticizes the 46th President for failing to deport criminal illegal migrants. Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was allowed to remain in the United States and eventually murder Riley under Biden’s watch.

Ibarra was previously arrested in New York City for endangering a child but was released due to sanctuary city policies.

Despite rejection by CNN, the advertisement was broadcast nationwide, particularly in swing states, during the State of the Union address on Fox News, MSNBC, and Newsmax. Former President Donald Trump has also blamed Biden’s policies for Riley’s murder.

NeoCon ‘Free Beacon’ Blog Plagiarizes 3-Year-Old National Pulse Hunter Biden Scoop.

The neoconservative Washington Free Beacon and its “reporter” Chuck Ross have falsely claimed that meetings between President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and Chinese businessman Patrick Ho were “previously undisclosed” despite The National Pulse scooping the story three years ago.

The National Pulse’s editor-in-chief Raheem Kassam reported at the time that Hunter Biden had traveled to Hong Kong and met with Ho — an executive with CEFC China Energy and a suspected Chinese spy — after obtaining exclusive audio of Biden admitting to the meetings.

Hunter Biden’s admission was contained in an audio file named “Most Genius Shit Ever.” In the recording, he references his meetings with Ho, describing him as a “spy chief of China.” Biden also discusses his concerns over the disappearance of his business partner at CEFC, Ye Jianming.

Last month, Jim Biden — brother of President Joe Biden — referenced the meetings between Ho and Hunter Biden during testimony as part of the House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry. Jim Biden said he traveled to Hong Kong with his nephew several weeks after CEFC had paid $5 million to both Bidens.

Jim Biden testified that he joined his nephew for lunch with Ho. After lunch, Jim Biden said that Ho requested a private meeting with Hunter Biden. At the time, Ho was being surveilled by the US government due to suspicion that he was an international spy. The nature of the relationship between Hunter Biden and the Chinese energy firm has sparked potential national security concerns regarding members of the Biden family.

The Washington Free Beacon is funded by billionaire Paul Singer. It is best known for being the progenitor of the Russia hoax, initially supporting the notorious Fusion GPS, which went on to create the “dossier” on Donald Trump, which led to the attempted nullification of his first term in office.

POLITICO Reporter Apologizes After Smearing Christians, U.S. Founding.

POLITICO reporter Heidi Przybyla issued a public apology on Thursday for insisting those who believe their rights come from God are “extremists” and “Christian nationalists.” Przybyla’s apology was published in response to a letter sent to POLITICO‘s leadership by two national Christian organizations.

The Family Research Council and Catholic Vote criticized Przybyla for exhibiting what they deemed as a “disqualifying lack of knowledge of the United States of America’s founding documents and a profoundly prejudicial view toward American religious groups.”

In her written apology, Przybyla attempted to clarify her comments — stressing the difference between Christianity as a religion and Christian Nationalism as a political movement. She admitted to her responsibility as a reporter to use words with precision and expressed remorse for falling short in her recent reporting and media appearances.

“Many people have views about our rights as Americans that would coincide with those of many of our nation’s founders,” she wrote, noting that the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. was also an advocate of natural rights. Przybyla has repeatedly insinuated that conservatives who make appeals to natural rights are pushing a “Christian nationalist” agenda.

Despite acknowledging her original mistake, Przybyla insisted she does not harbor a “bias against religion.” She said that a pluralistic society should appreciate that both sides of policy debates may possess religious or idealistic convictions. This response, however, has received mixed reactions.

The Family Research Council President Tony Perkins and Catholic Vote President Brian Burch referred to Przybyla’s comments as “deeply disturbing” in their open letter to POLITICO. They argue her words were more calculated than “clumsy” and call for POLITICO to address what they perceive as religious hostility.

FBI Arrests Blaze Reporter Steve Baker Over Jan 6 Scoops.

Investigative journalist Steve Baker was taken into custody on Friday by the FBI for “non-violent misdemeanors” related to his reporting on the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots, according to his employer, Blaze Media. This follows Baker’s announcement on Tuesday that the FBI had issued a signed arrest warrant for his “alleged J6 crimes” and that he was ordered to self-surrender to federal authorities in Dallas, Texas.

Baker turned himself in at 7 a.m. on Friday and was transported to the Dallas Courthouse for a 10 a.m. hearing before a Magistrate. He expressed concern about the process, writing online, “My attorneys have also been assured by the gov. that this will be an ‘in and out’ affair and that they have ‘no intention’ of detaining me. But, rather than issuing a simple order to appear, they seem to feel the need to give me a dose of the personal humiliation treatment.”

This incident mirrors the arrests of other journalists who reported on J6 events, including David Medina and Owen Shroyer. Blaze Media stated, “Steve Baker, our investigative journalist, has now been taken into FBI custody for his J6 reporting,” marking the latest development in the legal repercussions for journalists covering the controversial event.

Journalist Catherine Herridge Held In Contempt By Federal Judge For Refusing To Name Source.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper held investigative journalist and former CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge in civil contempt yesterday. Herridge has refused to expose the source behind a series of 2017 Fox News reports on a federal investigation into Chinese American scientist Yanping Chen’s ties to the Chinese military.

“Herridge and many of her colleagues in the journalism community may disagree with that decision and prefer that a different balance be struck, but she is not permitted to flout a federal court’s order with impunity,” Judge Cooper wrote on Thursday.

The former CBS News correspondent has been ordered to pay $800 daily until she complies with an August court order to reveal the source behind her reporting on Chen. However, the judge issued a 30-day stay for the contempt order while Herridge explores a possible appeal.

Judge Cooper’s ruling has been met with strong pushback from journalists and First Amendment activists who see the contempt order as a blow to the media’s constitutional rights.

Chen is seeking the identity of Herridge’s source. Chen filed a lawsuit against the FBI and Department of Justice in 2018, asserting that her reputation was unjustly tarnished and her livelihood compromised by selective information leakage. The judge’s earlier order in August had demanded Herridge divulge her sources during a deposition, asserting that Chen’s need for the information outweighed Herridge’s journalistic protection rights.

MSNBC Legal Analyst Says 1st Amendment is U.S.’s Achilles Heel.

The First Amendment is a vulnerability that opens the United States to an onslaught of ‘disinformation,’ MSNBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade has argued. Promoting her new book, Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America, McQuade was questioned by Rachel Maddow regarding the susceptibility of the United States to so-called ‘disinformation‘ relative to other nations.

McQuade said the legal right to free speech in the U.S. posed a potential threat to the country’s democracy. “Actually, Rachel, I think we’re more susceptible to it than other countries, and that’s because some of our greatest strengths can also be our Achilles heel,” McQuade said.

The former U.S. Attorney, appointed by Barack Obama, claimed there were nuances when considering free speech and its ‘unintended consequences.‘ She explained that despite the cherished nature of free speech and its importance in democracy, the reflexive reaction to any attempts at regulation is dismissed as censorship, thereby contributing to America’s vulnerability. McQuade also referenced the Supreme Court’s stance that permits limitations on fundamental rights, including free speech, under specific conditions deemed important by the government.

Furthermore, McQuade voiced her belief that the U.S. needs more constructive conversations and practical solutions to combat the issue of ‘disinformation.’ She expressed concern over the rampant use of political labels and the retreat to positional ‘extremes’ when discussing censorship and limiting First Amendment rights. In addition to her media roles, McQuade is a law professor at the University of Michigan.

Bannon Threatens Fox, Implies Murdoch Purchased Network Illegally.

Stephen K. Bannon blasted Rupert Murdoch and his Fox empire, stating they “are foreigners and they’re not good foreigners. They’re bad people,” during a recent episode of his War Room television show. Bannon accused Murdoch of flouting immigration rules to acquire the network.

“I believe we could show that in the next Trump administration, he gundecked his citizenship in the middle of trying to buy Fox Broadcasting. Because guess what? You’re supposed to be an American citizen. Well, they took care of that so he could buy it. It was completely illegal, completely bought foreign.”

Bannon also remarked: “They are neo-liberal neocons. They fully support the concentration of wealth in this nation. They are foreign. It’s a foreign billionaire family that do not, does not have the best interests of the United States in mind, except as a market where they happen to own media assets, including a television network, I believe, illegally.”

Don Lemon Was Paid $24.5 Million When He Left CNN.

Don Lemon, the former CNN anchor who was released from the media network last year, has reportedly reached a multi-million dollar exit deal with his previous employers, as disclosed in a recent report by The Wrap. After being let go almost a year ago, it is alleged that Lemon’s separation agreement was finalized at an estimated value of $24.5 million, the equivalent of what he would have earned had he remained with CNN for the remainder of his contract, set to last another 3.5 years.

However, CNN has contested the reported sum of the payout, describing it as “incorrect” in a statement to People, though did not expand further on the matter. The resolution of the severance negotiations suggests the closure of Lemon’s chapter with CNN, leaving him fully compensated.

Since his departure, Lemon has moved onto another television network, pursuing a program mirroring the style of Tucker Carlson. The news of his substantial financial settlement follows the termination of Chris Licht, the executive responsible for Lemon’s dismissal. While no longer a part of CNN, Lemon’s conclusion seems advantageous, with him being propelled into a new venture armed with a significant wealth benefit.

Paul Krugman Says ‘White Rural Rage’ Is ‘Single Greatest Threat Facing American Democracy.’

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman has declared, “white rural rage is arguably the single greatest threat facing American democracy” in an op-ed where he also admits that “at some level, I still don’t get the politics” of white rural Americans.

Krugman made the remarks in a review of White Rural Rage: The Threat to American Democracy, a screed by left-wing journalist Paul Waldman, an MSNBC columnist, and left-wing academic Thomas Schaller, previously featured by the likes of The Colbert Report.

Seemingly attempting to be charitable, Krugman admits “progress isn’t painless” and that the consequences of the changes wrought on rural America in recent years have been “devastating economically and socially.” He blames “technology” as the principal cause, reluctantly admitting “imports” from places like China have also played some role.

Krugman goes on to argue, however, that “metropolitan areas with large numbers of highly educated workers” have been subsidizing their benighted rural countrymen through “Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and more.”

He then mocks those same rural Americans as dupes of “Donald Trump, a huckster from Queens who offers little other than validation for their resentment,” lamenting the fact their “white rural rage” will likely be “misdirected” against Joe Biden in November.

“[S]mall-town America is supposed to be filled with hard-working people who adhere to traditional values, not like those degenerate urbanites on welfare, but the economic and social reality doesn’t match this self-image,” he claims, adding defensively that he expects to be accused of sneering for his op-ed: “Draw attention to some of these realities, and you’ll be accused of being a snooty urban elitist. I’m sure responses to this column will be … interesting.”

Krugman also praises New York City as “relatively safe.”

He concludes he “still [finds it] hard to understand” why white rural voters support Trump.
