May the Best Son Win: Trump Jr Wants to Debate Biden Jr… But Where’s Hunter?

Donald Trump Jr., son of the 45th President of the United States, has publicly challenged Hunter Biden, son of likely Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden, to a debate.

The elder Trump-Biden showdown won’t be for some time, so why not a warm-up featuring their offspring? The preliminary match before the championship fight.

The debate gauntlet – focusing on who has benefited financially from their father’s government position – was issued by Trump Jr. nearly a week ago, with no response from the junior Biden just yet.

President Trump’s eldest son declared on Twitter:

“The [mainstream media] loves making a false equivalency between us, so let’s settle it: I challenge Hunter Biden to man up & debate me. Hunter releases his tax returns & I release mine. Let’s have an open [conversation] about who really profited from their father’s public office!”

“We can go full transparency, we show everything, and we can talk about all of the places where I am supposedly grifting but Hunter Biden isn’t,” Trump Jr. added.

Hunter Biden has long been a focus of corruption, and for good reason.

Let’s look at the tale of the tape.

In the blue corner, Hunter Biden:

  • In 1996 Hunter became the Executive Vice President at MBNA bank, right out of Harvard Law School. This raised red flags because they were a major contributor to the Biden campaign, and one of the most powerful firms in Biden’s home-state, Delaware. Managers at MBNA called Hunter the “Senate MBNA” according to Rachael Mullen, former Senior banking officer from 1994-2001;
  • Between 2001 and 2005, after leaving MBNA, Hunter continued his relationship with the firm by accepting consulting fees for around $100,000 in retainers, according to the New York Times. All the while Joe Biden pushed for and succeeded in passing legislation to make it harder for consumers to file bankruptcy;
  • Around the same time, Hunter worked for a lobbying firm and was on the board of Amtrak. While there is speculation that he received this through connections, Sen. Tom Carper claimed in 2006: “Hunter Biden has spent a lot of time on Amtrak trains.”;
  • In 2014 the junior Biden joined Ukraine’s Burisma as a board member despite having zero knowledge of the gas industry, and not speaking the language. Burisma is widely known for corruption, and reportedly paid Biden up to $83k per month. Leading up to the infamous video of Joe Biden bragging about withholding aid to Ukraine if the top prosecutor Viktor Shokin wasn’t fired from the team investigating Burisma’s corruption.
  • Hunter Biden’s ties to China (he was one of the directors at a private equity company controlled by Chinese government stakeholders) also raised red flags with Senator Chuck Grassley and Senator Ron Johnson.

“In December of 2013, one month after Rosemont Seneca’s joint venture with Bohai Capital to form BHR, Hunter Biden reportedly flew aboard Air Force Two with then-Vice President Biden to China,” the Senators wrote.

“While in China, he helped arrange for Jonathan Li, CEO of Bohai Capital, to ‘shake hands’ with Vice President Biden.”

“Afterward,” they continued, “Hunter Biden met with Li for reportedly a ‘social meeting.’ After the China trip, BHR’s business license was approved.

In the red corner, Donald Trump Jr:

Don Jr hasn’t had the benefit of being the son of a life-long politician, but that hasn’t stopped the media leveling allegations they daren’t even whisper about Team Biden.

Jr’s new book, Triggered sold over 71,000 copies in its first week according to Nielsen Bookscan, raising the ire of media types who lauded authors such as John Bolton, Donna Brazile, James Comey, and of course, ‘Anonymous’.

No doubt Lt. Col. Vindman’s book will be met with plaudits, but the media has spent their time in the literary world critiquing the RNC for “bulk purchasing” Don. Jr’s book.

“The RNC is giving away signed Donald Trump Jr’s book to donors” said Zeke Miller, a White House correspondent with the Associated Press.

The RNC corrected the media’s allegations: “We haven’t made a large bulk purchase, but are ordering copies to keep up with demand,” said Mike Reed for the RNC. “Each book is sold to an individual who supports the Republican Party.”

There are also the public speaking fees Don Jr receives, with the President’s son reportedly getting $100k for a speech in Florida, according to the Washington Post.

The speech in question was to raise money for scholarships for students, and paid for by a local businessman and alumnus of the University of North Texas. Through ticket sales for its speaker series, the university has raised $1.65 million for scholarships since 2013.

Hardly the $83,000 a month from a foreign energy company the junior Biden became accustomed to.

It’s also worth noting Don Jr. has been giving speeches for over a decade – way before his father was a politician.

Another criticism has been Don Jr’s efforts to sell a billion dollars of luxury residential units built by the Trump Organization. But then again, that is his family’s company, and he would be in breach of his fiduciary duties if he didn’t try to keep the company profitable.

The best the New York Times could muster up was quote from an Indian man contracted by a local real estate broker who said: “Everyone in India knows who the U.S. President is. It’s a status symbol. This is a big brand, the President of the United States’ name will be on it”.

The Wall Street Journal was more clear: “…an Indian development firm marketing the project said the materials had been sent out by a broker without their authorization, and won’t be used again.”

That’s their big link to Don Jr. being as bad as Hunter Biden? It’s hardly on par with selling the national interest to the Chinese, is it?

So Don Jr definitely has the edge when it comes to his debate topic. No wonder Biden the Younger appears to want no part of it.

If it happens… may the best son win.
