Pentagon leaker Jack Teixeira pleaded guilty on Monday to six counts regarding the willful retention and transmission of national defense information, accepting a 16-year prison sentence.
Teixeira, a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, was tasked with troubleshooting computer workstations for the 102nd Intelligence Wing at Otis Air National Guard Base. There, he accessed “hundreds” of classified documents and “purposefully removed classified documents and information despite admonishments from his superiors to stop,” Assistant United States Attorney Jason Casey said Monday.
The guardsman posted the information to Discord under the moniker “theexcalibereffect” and “took steps to conceal his unlawful activity, Casey said.
According to the plea agreement, Teixeira agreed to plead guilty to all six counts in exchange for prosecutors not charging him with additional counts under the Espionage Act. However, Teixeira, still active with the National Guard, could face additional military charges.
