FCC Targets ‘The View’ for Enforcement, Dismisses Colbert-Talarico Hoax.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is investigating ABC’s The View for potential violations of the Equal Time Rule after featuring Texas Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, Texas State Representative James Talarico (D), ABC’s The View, and CBS’s Stephen Colbert.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The investigation was confirmed on Wednesday, February 18, 2026; the events involve ABC, CBS, and FCC guidance issued last month.

💬KEY QUOTE: “We’re taking a look at it.” — Brendan Carr

🎯IMPACT: The investigation will examine political bias in media, while raising questions about the application of the Equal Time Rule.

IN FULL

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr confirmed that the agency is investigating ABC’s The View for a potential violation of the Equal Time Rule after the show featured Texas Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico. “We’re taking a look at it,” Carr said on Wednesday.

The Equal Time Rule requires broadcasters to provide airtime to rival candidates if requested. ABC has not commented. The View has previously hosted Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), one of Talarico’s primary opponents, as a guest. CBS’s Stephen Colbert also faced scrutiny after his show declined to air an interview with Talarico, citing legal guidance that it could trigger the FCC rule.

Carr criticized media coverage of the Colbert situation, calling it a “perfect encapsulation of why the American people have more trust in gas station sushi than they do in the national news media.” He noted that Colbert’s actions appeared to be a deliberate effort to raise money for Talarico and generate attention for his bid as early voting began, with the Texas Democrat’s campaign reporting $2.5 million raised since the Colbert interview was posted on YouTube.

In its guidance last month, the FCC clarified that talk shows cannot assume automatic exemption from the Equal Time Rule when featuring political candidates. Carr suggested that factors like a host’s political donations could be considered in determining whether a show’s coverage is partisan. Colbert and other hosts have been involved in fundraising for Democrat candidates.

WATCH: Trump Can Make Broadcast Media GREAT Again.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The National Pulse’s Editor-in-Chief, Raheem Kassam, sat down with Daniel Suhr, president of the Center for American Rights, regarding the latter’s “Lift the Cap” campaign—an effort to push the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to dramatically alter limits to ownership in local broadcast media

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The National Pulse Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam, Daniel Suhr, the FCC, ABC, NBC, CBS, Nexstar, and Sinclair.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The interview occurred on Boxing Day, December 26, 2025.

💬KEY QUOTE: “So many of us rely on local television for things that we care about, local news, local sports—even if we maybe use a streaming service for our national news. The reality is that more Americans tune in to the evening news at 5 or 6 o’clock on their local TV. news than any watch a big cable show like The Five.” — Daniel Suhr

🎯IMPACT: Suhr hopes to see major local broadcasters like Nexstar and Sinclair be able to expand and gain the necessary leverage to not only be able to push back but also influence the parent broadcasters, like NBC, CBS, and ABC.

IN FULL

The National Pulse’s Editor-in-Chief, Raheem Kassam, sat down with Daniel Suhr, president of the Center for American Rights, regarding the latter’s “Lift the Cap” campaign—an effort to push the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to dramatically alter limits to ownership in local broadcast media. Speaking during the annual War Room: Boxing Day Special, Kassam and Suhr examined the implications of the FCC lifting the ownership restrictions, particularly given that television viewers still receive most of their news from local broadcasters.

“So many of us rely on local television for things that we care about, local news, local sports—even if we maybe use a streaming service for our national news. The reality is that more Americans tune in to the evening news at 5 or 6 o’clock on their local TV news than any watch a big cable show like The Five,” Suhr said.

His nonprofit group, the Center for American Rights, is advocating for the FCC to reform its 39 percent ownership cap, which prevents a local broadcast company from reaching more than 39 percent of U.S. households. He also points out that today’s media landscape is vastly different from it was when the cap was instituted, especially with the rise of the streaming giants like Google and YouTube.

Suhr contends lifting the ownership cap would “open up a free market,” and that his group’s campaign seeks to “open up greater room for capitalism to stop these government interventions in the market, and instead allow broadcasters to grow in a natural way, in line with what capitalism dictates.” He goes on to note that the campaign has received backing from several notable figures, including Mike Davis of the Article Three Project and free market economist Stephen Moore.

At its core, Suhr hopes to see major local broadcasters, such as Nexstar and Sinclair, expand and gain the necessary leverage to not only push back but also influence the parent broadcasters, including NBC, CBS, and ABC.

While, on the face of it, the push to abolish ownership caps for local broadcasters may seem like an ideal policy for a conservative media environment, some claim that if the cap is lifted, safeguards must be put in place to prevent a repeat of the post-Citizens United era in politics, where large corporations can dominate.

ABC Renews Kimmel Contract Despite Charlie Kirk Smear Scandal.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: ABC announced a contract extension for Jimmy Kimmel, keeping Jimmy Kimmel Live! on the air through the 2026-2027 TV season.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Jimmy Kimmel, ABC, and President Donald J. Trump.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The announcement was made in December 2025, with Kimmel’s contract now extended beyond its original May 2026 expiration date.

💬KEY QUOTE: “THANKS FOR WATCHING LIVE!!!” – Jimmy Kimmel.

🎯IMPACT: The extension solidifies Kimmel’s presence in late-night television, despite criticism from Trump and controversy after the host appeared to blame the MAGA movement for the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.

IN FULL

ABC has renewed Jimmy Kimmel’s contract, securing Jimmy Kimmel Live! through the 2026–2027 television season. The new deal extends beyond Kimmel’s previous agreement, which was due to end in May 2026.

The renewal arrives amid ongoing public friction between Kimmel and President Donald J. Trump, including Kimmel’s brief suspension earlier this year for appearing to blame the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement for the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel had said. The alleged gunman in the case is, in fact, a leftist who was in a relationship with a transgender.

Trump has previously called for Kimmel to be fired, recently labelling him a “talentless bum.” After ABC broke and returned Kimmel to the airwaves despite the Kirk scandal, the America First leader branded the network a “true bunch of losers,” asking: “Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE.”

Trump also blasted Kimmel during this year’s Kennedy Center Honors.

Sinclair and Nexstar Break, Add Jimmy Kimmel Back to Lineup.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar have reinstated Jimmy Kimmel Live! after a week-long ban due to false statements Kimmel made regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Jimmy Kimmel, Sinclair Broadcast Group, ABC, Disney, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr, and President Donald J. Trump.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The suspension occurred after Kimmel’s monologue on September 15, with his reinstatement announced on Friday. The show airs on ABC affiliates across the United States.

💬KEY QUOTE: “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” Kimmel claimed during his return monologue.

🎯IMPACT: Kimmel’s decision to spread a hoax that Kirk’s alleged assassin was MAGA, rather than a radical leftist, led to calls for accountability within Disney for his actions.

IN FULL

Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar announced on Friday that they will reinstate Jimmy Kimmel Live! on their ABC affiliates after a week-long ban. The suspension followed remarks by Kimmel spreading disinformation about the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk. Sinclair, which owns numerous ABC stations across the U.S., stated the decision came after “thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and community leaders.”

Kimmel returned to air on Tuesday for a number of other ABC affiliates, appearing to express regret for his remarks on Kirk’s murder but not actually apologizing. “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” Kimmel claimed.

The backlash began after Kimmel’s September 15 monologue, in which he criticized President Donald J. Trump and his allies for their reactions to Kirk’s assassination and claimed the far-left alleged killer was actually a MAGA movement member. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr, appointed by Trump, suggested during a podcast interview that ABC’s broadcast license could be revoked. In response, Sinclair and Nexstar Media Group temporarily pulled Kimmel’s show from their stations, with ABC as a whole following.

Disney, ABC’s parent company, announced Kimmel’s return on Monday, though Sinclair and Nexstar initially maintained their blackout. Sinclair had called for “accountability” within Disney.

President Trump criticized ABC’s decision to reinstate Kimmel, writing on Truth Social, “I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back.”

Trump Slams ABC for Lifting Kimmel’s Suspension: ‘A True Bunch of Losers.’

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J.Trump criticized ABC for reinstating Jimmy Kimmel after his suspension for making false statements about Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk’s assassin, and suggested potential legal action against the network.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Trump, Jimmy Kimmel, ABC, and Charlie Kirk.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Kimmel returned to TV on Tuesday, following a suspension over false statements about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

🎯IMPACT: Sinclair and Nexstar, owning 80 ABC affiliates, have refused to air new episodes of Kimmel’s show, demanding Kimmel issue an apology and a financial donation to Kirk’s family.

IN FULL

President Donald J. Trump has criticized ABC for reinstating Jimmy Kimmel after his suspension, and floated the possibility of pursuing legal action against the network. Kimmel had been suspended for nearly a week following false statements he made about the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.

In a Truth Social post, Trump expressed disbelief over ABC’s decision to bring Kimmel back on air. “I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his ‘talent’ was never there,” Trump wrote. “Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE.”

Trump also claimed Kimmel’s actions could be considered an “illegal campaign contribution” due to his partisan bias. “He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings,” Trump added.

Kimmel had previously claimed that Kirk’s assassin, Tyler Robinson, was part of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. However, prosecutors have confirmed that Robinson was motivated by leftist political ideology and hate for Kirk’s conservative views. In his return to television, Kimmel addressed the controversy in a tearful non-apology, claiming, “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man… nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for what was the actions… of an obviously deeply disturbed individual.”

Despite his reinstatement, major broadcast groups Sinclair and Nexstar, which own approximately 80 ABC affiliates, have refused to air new episodes of Kimmel’s show. Sinclair has also demanded that Kimmel apologize and make a financial donation to Charlie Kirk’s family.

Nexstar Joins Sinclair in Keeping Kimmel Off Air.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Nexstar Media Group said it would not air the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, choosing to preempt the show despite ABC’s reinstatement.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Nexstar Media Group; Sinclair; ABC parent Disney; Jimmy Kimmel; viewers in affected broadcast markets.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Tuesday across Nexstar television markets nationwide, following ABC’s decision to bring the show back.

💬KEY QUOTE: “We made a decision last week to preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s ‘ill-timed and insensitive’ comments at a critical time in our national discourse. We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.” – Nexstar Media Group

🎯IMPACT: Kimmel will be replaced with other programming on Nexstar and Sinclair stations while remaining available on Disney-owned streaming.

IN FULL

Nexstar Media Group announced on September 23 that it will join Sinclair Broadcast Group in refusing to air the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC affiliate stations. The late-night show is scheduled to resume on Tuesday after being paused last week by parent company Disney. The pause followed false statements by host Jimmy Kimmel linking the alleged assassin of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk to President Donald J. Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, despite his radical left beliefs.

Nexstar, which operates nearly 200 Television stations nationwide, noted that it decided to preempt the show last week and has no plans to reverse it. “We made a decision last week to preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s ‘ill-timed and insensitive’ comments at a critical time in our national discourse,” the company said in a statement Tuesday. “We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.”

Nexstar added that while Kimmel’s show will remain available on Disney-owned streaming platforms, its local stations will focus on news and other market-specific programming.

Sinclair, which owns or operates more than 100 local stations, announced a similar move on Monday. “Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming,” the company said in a statement. “Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”

Disney has not issued a new public statement regarding the affiliate decisions so far, but previously paused the show for several days, referring to Kimmel’s comments as poorly timed. Jimmy Kimmel Live! has aired on ABC since 2003.

Sinclair Is Keeping Jimmy Kimmel Off the Airwaves.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Sinclair is preempting ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and will not return the show in key markets, despite ABC reinstating it after an earlier suspension over Kimmel’s false statements about assassinated Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Sinclair Broadcast Group; ABC/Disney; Jimmy Kimmel; Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and spokesman Andrew Kolvet; Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Beginning Tuesday across Sinclair’s ABC affiliates, including Seattle (KOMO) and Portland, with a broader impact across 18 states.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.” – Sinclair Broadcast Group

🎯IMPACT: Millions of viewers in Sinclair markets won’t see Kimmel; ABC’s reinstatement faces affiliate resistance.

IN FULL

Jimmy Kimmel‘s late-night show will not return to screens in Seattle, Portland, and other major markets after Sinclair Broadcast Group announced it will continue to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! across its ABC affiliate stations. This comes despite ABC’s decision to reinstate Kimmel following a suspension over distasteful and false remarks about the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.

Sinclair, which owns 38 ABC affiliates in 18 states, said it is replacing the program with news coverage, stating, “Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”

The company is demanding Kimmel issue a “direct apology to the Kirk family” and make a “meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA,” the conservative youth organization Kirk founded.

Kimmel was suspended after a monologue in which he claimed “many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk,” and accused conservatives of “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.” The backlash was immediate, considering the ample evidence that alleged assassin Tyler Robinson is a radical leftist, with affiliate owners and political commentators calling for action.

Disney executives suspended Kimmel just before he was scheduled to deliver a second, even more aggressive monologue, with one insider saying, “If Jimmy went on the air, there would have been no way back from that monologue for Jimmy.”

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) commissioner Brendan Carr also criticized Kimmel’s comments, but later denied threatening ABC’s licenses, saying, “Jimmy Kimmel is in the situation he’s in because of his ratings. Not because of anything that’s happened at the federal government level.”

The fallout has reached beyond Sinclair. New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani canceled a scheduled appearance on an ABC affiliate in protest, citing Kimmel’s suspension.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested after allegedly opening fire on ABC10’s building in Sacramento, California. The suspect, reportedly an active leftist, was released by local authorities before being taken into federal custody. No injuries were reported.

Disney released a statement over the weekend saying, “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.” Nexstar, another large ABC affiliate owner, has not yet commented on whether it will resume airing Kimmel’s program.

“Disney and ABC caving and allowing Kimmel back on the air is not surprising, but it’s their mistake to make. Nexstar and Sinclair do not have to make the same choice,” Andrew Kolvet, a spokesman for Turning Point USA, said.

BREAKING: Jimmy Kimmel Returns to ABC Tomorrow.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Jimmy Kimmel Live! is set to return to air after a brief suspension for making false statements about Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Jimmy Kimmel, Disney, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr, and several celebrities lobbying on Kimmel’s behalf, such as Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The suspension occurred last Wednesday, with the show set to return on Tuesday night. The controversy unfolded nationwide.

💬KEY QUOTE: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Jimmy Kimmel said of Tyler Robinson, the leftist alleged to have assassinated Kirk, in the comments that earned him his suspension.

🎯IMPACT: The preconditions for Kimmel’s return, if any, are not entirely clear.

IN FULL

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is returning to air after being suspended last week following backlash over comments made by Jimmy Kimmel regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk. Kimmel, 57, had made false statements about Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin, a leftist with a transgender lover, by suggesting he was part of “the MAGA gang” despite all evidence to the contrary.

ABC announced the show’s return, stating that the decision was made after “thoughtful conversations” with parent company Disney. A spokesman for ABC explained, “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Kimmel had said of alleged assassin Tyler Robinson, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it”—even though there was no evidence Robinson was MAGA and ample evidence he was a radical leftist. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr criticized the comments, calling them “some of the sickest conduct possible,” and suggested ABC take action or face further scrutiny from the FCC.

Notably, it is against FCC rules for broadcast licensees or permittees to knowingly spread “false information concerning a crime or a catastrophe” if it causes “substantial” public harm.

In response to Kimmel’s comments, local station groups like Nexstar and Sinclair removed Jimmy Kimmel Live! from their schedules. Celebrities, including Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, who were relatively indifferent to Charlie Kirk’s assassination for exercising his free speech, were quick to rush to Kimmel’s defense, hailing him as a martyr for the First Amendment.

Mamdani Cancels ABC Appearance in Solidarity With Charlie Kirk MisInfo Peddler Jimmy Kimmel.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Zohran Mamdani, the Democrats’ far-left New York City mayoral candidate, canceled a televised town hall over ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Zohran Mamdani, Jimmy Kimmel, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr, and ABC/Nexstar affiliates.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Announced during a press conference on Roosevelt Island, Monday.

💬KEY QUOTE: “It is not the government’s job to tell us what we can and cannot talk about.” – Zohran Mamdani

🎯IMPACT: Mamdani claims his decision was motivated by ‘First Amendment’ concerns despite Kimmel having spread blatant false information.

IN FULL

Far-left New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani announced on Monday that he is canceling a planned televised town hall with a local ABC affiliate. The decision comes in response to ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! following host Jimmy Kimmel spreading false conspiracy theories that slain Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk was murdered by a Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement supporter. Additional pressure on ABC to suspend Kimmel came from President Donald J. Trump’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as well as local affiliates owned by Nexstar and the Sinclair Broadcast Group.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr had threatened regulatory action against ABC over the false claims made by Kimmel regarding Kirk’s assassination. Nexstar, which owns dozens of local ABC affiliates, initially suspended the show before ABC followed suit with an indefinite suspension. Subsequently, Sinclair announced they would also back Nexstar’s decision and pull Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Speaking during a press conference on Roosevelt Island, Mamdani criticized what he perceives as government interference, stating, “It is not the government’s job to bully talk show hosts off of the air. It is not the government’s job to tell us what we can and cannot talk about.”

Mamdani further expressed his concerns about the broader implications of such actions, saying, “The message that it sends to each and every American across this country is a message the First Amendment is no longer a right that can be counted on, but rather that it is government which will determine what should and should not be discussed.”

Notably, it has always been against FCC regulations for broadcast license holders to spread “false information concerning a crime or a catastrophe” over the public airwaves.

Feds Detain Leftist Released by Local Police After Shooting Up ABC Station.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A man was arrested for shooting up the ABC10 building in Sacramento, California. Shots were fired at the building, striking it multiple times, though no injuries were reported.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Anibal Hernandez-Santana, who has a history of radical left output on social media, was arrested by Sacramento Police but later released. He was subsequently taken into custody by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

📍WHEN & WHERE: The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the ABC10 building on the 400 block of Broadway in Sacramento.

💬KEY QUOTE: “This is unacceptable behavior. It’s not going to be tolerated in Sacramento,” said Anthony Gamble, a public information officer for the Sacramento Police Department.

🎯IMPACT: The shooting follows the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel by ABC for making false statements about Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk’s suspected assassin; however, the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and any connection is purely speculative as of the time of publication.

IN FULL

A man identified as Anibal Hernandez-Santana, 64—accused of firing gunshots at the KXTV ABC10 station—is expected to appear in federal court on Monday. Sacramento police responded to the 400 block of Broadway just after 1:30 PM on Friday following reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers found that at least three rounds had struck the building, hitting a window. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The Sacramento Police Department classified the incident as a drive-by shooting, stating that a vehicle drove by the building, fired shots, and then fled the scene. Hernandez-Santana was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied building, and negligent discharge of a firearm, but still released on $200,000 bail. However, he was later taken into custody by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on suspicion of willfully or maliciously interfering with a radio communications station.

Anthony Gamble, a public information officer for the Sacramento Police Department, said, “This is unacceptable behavior… It’s not going to be tolerated in Sacramento.”

Molly McMahon, a spokesman for Tegna, the parent company of ABC10, stated, “While details are still limited, importantly all of our employees are safe and unharmed. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and have taken additional measures to ensure the continued safety of our employees.”

Notably, an examination of Hernandez-Santana’s social media found an extensive history of far-left political views, suggesting the shooting could have been inspired by the Democratic Party’s violent political rhetoric, or possibly ABC‘s suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over false statements regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.

In one post, Hernandez-Santana stated he would support the death penalty for Kirk’s assassin, 22-year-old leftist Tyler Robinson, only if President Donald J. Trump faced the death penalty for “insurrection.” Hernandez-Santana appeared to celebrate Kirk’s assassination in another post, writing sarcastically: “I think the word empathy, that made up New Age term, did a lot of damage to CK’s carotid artery.”

The suspected gunman also wished death upon President Trump just four days ago, writing in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “Where is a good heart attack when we need it the most?? Please Join in my thoughts and prayers for the physical demise of our fearful leader.”
