IN FULL

A contentious Dearborn City Council meeting last week saw Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud tell a Christian resident he was “not welcome” in the city. The controversy began when longtime resident Edward “Ted” Barham objected during the public comment period to new street signs on Warren Avenue honoring Osama Siblani, an Arab American publisher who has openly praised groups like Hezbollah and Hamas.

“He’s a promoter of Hezbollah and Hamas,” Barham said, referencing past remarks by Siblani in which he glorified violent resistance. “He talks about how the blood of the martyrs irrigates the land of Palestine… others will fight with planes, drones, and rockets.” Comparing the honor of naming a road “Hezbollah Street or Hamas Street,” Barham called the move provocative and emphasized his Christian commitment to peace, quoting scripture: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

Mayor Hammoud responded aggressively, saying, “The best suggestion I have for you is to not drive on Warren Avenue or to close your eyes while you’re doing it.”

“His name is up there, and I spoke at a ceremony celebrating it because he’s done a lot for this community,” the mayor said, before launching into a torrent of insults: “You are a bigot, and you are racist, and you’re an Islamophobe. Although you live here, I want you to know, as Mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out.”

Dearborn’s mayor has previously stoked controversy in 2023 when two Palestinian flags were posted at the city’s welcome sign following the Hamas massacre of over a thousand people on October 7 of that year.

Raheem Kassam, Editor-in-Chief of The National Pulse, warned that Dearborn was at risk of devolving into a parallel society, similar to many Islamic enclaves in Europe, in his 2017 book No Go Zones.

‘No Go Zones’ Warning Becomes Reality as Police Roll Out Arabic Patches.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The Dearborn Heights Police Department in Michigan introduced an optional uniform patch featuring Arabic and English text.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Dearborn Heights Police Department, Officer Emily Murdoch, and Rep. Randy Fine of Florida.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Dearborn Heights, Michigan, announced recently via social media.

💬KEY QUOTE: “This patch represents unity, respect, and our shared commitment to service,” the department claimed.

🎯IMPACT: The patch aims to reflect the diversity of the community, though it has sparked criticism from some public figures.

IN FULL

The Dearborn Heights Police Department in Michigan has announced an optional patch for its officers, featuring text in both Arabic and English. The patch includes the words “DEARBORN HEIGHTS” and “POLICE” written in both languages.

“The Dearborn Heights Police Department is proud to share a new optional patch that our officers may wear as part of their uniform,” the department said in a Facebook post. Officer Emily Murdoch designed the patch, allegedly to reflect the community’s diversity. The department further noted, “By incorporating Arabic script alongside English, this patch represents unity, respect, and our shared commitment to service. We are proud of Officer Murdoch’s creativity and dedication in helping our department better represent the people we serve.”

Dearborn Heights, part of the greater Detroit metropolitan area, boasts a population of around 60,000 people, with 25 percent being of Arabic extraction. The city has drawn attention in the past for its public displays of support for Hamas. Shortly after the terrorist group’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the city government in Dearborn Heights—led by Mayor Abdullah Hammoud—erected two Palestinian flags flanking the city’s welcome sign. Some saw the move as an endorsement of Hamas’s action.

Notably, The National Pulse Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam wrote about Dearborn in No Go Zones in 2017, noting back then that it was developing into a parallel society similar to infamous Muslim-dominated localities in Europe such as Belgium’s Molenbeek and Sweden’s Malmö.

In Germany last year, police even warned Jews and homosexuals to hide their identities in neighborhoods in Berlin with large Arab populations who may be sympathetic to terrorist groups. Meanwhile, in 2023, a London borough council was forced to cancel a Hanukkah menorah lighting ceremony due to Muslim anger at the event.

Michigan Muslim Mayor Says He’s ‘Not in the Mood’ for Christmas if Bombs Are Falling in Gaza.

Dearborn mayor Abdullah Hammoud said residents – including himself – were “not in the mood” at this year’s city Christmas tree lighting, adding “Not when bombs are dropping in Gaza.” The Muslim mayor claimed growing concerns about Islamophobia were also to blame for the unusually somber event.

“In this community, right now there is a lot of grief, anger and fear,” Mayor Hammoud said in an interview with the New York Times. “You can’t help but be anxious when the whole city tells you that they stay up every night following the news, trying to understand how much more death and destruction is happening.”

He added, “This is personal for me. And it is personal for a great majority of my city.”

While Hammoud has tried to cast himself and city residents in a more sympathetic light following Hamas’s barbaric October 7th terrorist attack against Israel, he and some Dearborn residents have a long track record of promoting antisemitism and violence against Jews.

Hammoud, known for his staunch anti-Israel positions, excused the Hamas terror attack on the Jewish state “inevitable.” In a 2021 social media post, the Dearborn mayor used – in a positive manner – the phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” which many interpret as a call for the Palestinian conquest and eradication of Israel.

The National Pulse previously reported Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), whose district includes Dearborn, was a member of a secret Facebook group in which members praised Hamas and acts of terrorism against Jews – some embers also engaged in conspiracies denying the Holocaust.

While Hammoud laments a perceived rise in Islamophobia, in reality it is anti-Semitism that is on the steep rise – especially among Michigan’s Muslim community. According to government data, nearly half of the religion-oriented hate crimes in 2022 were directed at Jews in America.

Biden State Dept Appoints Muslim Mayor Who Called for Israel Eradication to Leadership Program.

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud has been appointed to the State Department’s Assembly of Local Leaders program – a first of its kind initiative ostensibly positioned to identify “key issues” impacting local communities. Hammoud, known for his staunch anti-Israel positions, excused the Hamas terror attack on the Jewish state “inevitable” just weeks ago.

In a previous social media statement, the Democratic leader called for the eradication of the Jewish state, supporting Hamas’s incursion on Israel which took place on October 7, 2021. Contravening facts, Hammoud accused Israel of the tragic bombing of Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, that instead came from the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s rocket, as per the Biden government’s own announcement.

Concerns have also been raised about the Biden government’s previous associations with groups supportive of Hamas, including the appointment of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on its “National Strategy to Combat Anti-Semitism”. CAIR, linked to Hamas, has backed various anti-Israel actions, with CAIR president Nihad Awad recently derogatorily referring to President Biden as a “Zionist”. The State Department has reportedly funneled millions in support to certain organizations in Gaza and the West Bank, some of which with a history of supporting Hamas. State Department official Nina Hachigian, known to have previously advocated for stronger U.S.-China ties, is leading the Assembly of Local Leaders program.
