Trump Florida Poll

DATA: Trump Holds Double-Digit Lead Over Biden In Florida Despite Abortion Ballot Measure.

A new poll appears to dash the Biden re-election campaign’s hopes that abortion could play a significant role in expanding the number of states in play during the 2024 presidential election. According to a new Emerson College survey, former President Donald Trump has jumped out to a double-digit lead over the 81-year-old President Joe Biden in Florida, despite the hope an abortion ballot referendum could narrow the race in the state.

The poll, conducted after the Florida Supreme Court approved ballot language for November’s election asking voters whether to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution, shows Trump winning 51 percent of registered voters to Biden‘s 38 percent. Meanwhile, 11 percent of voters say they remain undecided. Despite Trump’s impressive lead, the abortion ballot measure received a plurality of voter support.

Democrats have pushed a series of state-level ballot measures securing abortion rights as part of their 2024 election strategy. Party operatives have theorized that the move would energize progressive and female voters to turn out for Biden and other Democrat candidates en masse — possibly even putting some previously sold-Republican states in play. President Biden himself suggested the abortion issue could pave the way for him to win Florida.

However, the Emerson College poll has thrown cold water on these hopes despite Biden’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, previously projecting optimism. “Make no mistake: Florida is not an easy state to win, but it is a winnable one for President Biden, especially given Trump’s weak, cash-strapped campaign, and serious vulnerabilities within his coalition,” Rodriguez wrote following the Florida Supreme Court’s approval of the abortion ballot measure.

The same survey shows incumbent Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) jumping out to a seven-point lead over his Democrat challenger, former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.

The EU Will Include Abortion In Its ‘Charter of Fundamental Rights.’

The European Parliament voted to enshrine abortion as a right in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union on Thursday. The resolution, stipulating universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, including abortion, passed 336 to 163 with 39 abstentions.

The resolution proposes adding the following language to the Charter: “Everyone has the right to bodily autonomy, to free, informed, full and universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, and to all related healthcare services without discrimination, including the access to safe and legal abortion.”

The Socialists and Democrats, Renew Europe, Greens, and The Left groups headed the resolution. MEP Soraya Rodríguez Ramos (Renew), described a perceived global retreat on women’s sexual and reproductive rights, positioning the EU to reverse the trend.

However, it is unlikely that the resolution will be accepted by the European Union. Such amendments to the EU Charter require unanimous endorsement from all 27 member nations, a steep hill to climb considering the divergent abortion regulations across the member states that often reflect deeply held cultural beliefs. In countries like Hungary, Malta, and Poland, abortions are heavily regulated, while others, like France, have protected the right constitutionally.

Opponents of the resolution call attention to the national autonomy of member states and the dangers of EU overreach. Critics caution that the resolution’s dismissal of the ‘conscience clause,’ allowing doctors to personally object to providing abortions, could impinge on individual rights.

The debate over abortion in the EU mirrors that in the United States, where it centers on the extent to which abortion should be regulated at the federal level or left up to individual states.

Media Continues to Peddle Federal Abortion Ban Conspiracies Despite Unequivocal Trump Statement.

The corporate media is continuing to peddle falsehoods aimed at riling up abortion activists in an attempt to swing November elections for Democrats, with a new article in the Washington Post claiming the practice could be banned at the federal level under a second Trump term, despite the 45th President making an unequivocal federalist argument just days ago.

In his initial statement on abortion, Trump confirmed his personal support for exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and when the life of the mother is at risk. He also expressed his belief that, constitutionally, the issue should be decided according to “the will of the people” on a state-by-state basis.

“People forget, fighting Roe v. Wade was, right from the beginning, all about bringing the Issue back to the States, pursuant to the 10th Amendment and States’ Rights. It wasn’t about anything else,” he wrote.

“We had a Great Victory, it’s back in the States where it belongs, and where everyone wanted it. The States will be making the decision,” he added.

“Republicans are now free to run for Office based on the Horrible Border, Inflation, Bad Economy, and the Death & Destruction of our Country!”

Trump has frequently stressed people must follow “their heart” on abortion. However, he has warned conservatives that they must “win elections” to have any positive impact on the country at all.

Pushing for total or near-total bans on abortion, which does not enjoy broad public support, is likely to frustrate this larger goal, according to most polling.

Pence Attacks Trump on Abortion, But He Backed The Same Position Just 2 Years Ago.

Former Vice President Mike Pence has publicly criticized his former boss, President Donald Trump, for saying states’ rights should be respected when it comes to abortion, calling it a “slap in the face” to the pro-life lobby.

As recently as June 2022, Pence praised the Supreme Court for “returning the question of abortion to the states,” saying they had “reaffirmed the right of the American people to govern themselves at the state level in a manner consistent with their values and aspirations.”

Now, however, he is attacking Trump for affirming his support for states’ rights, characterizing the America First leader’s position that the federal government should not seize the power to set abortion limits as a “retreat on the Right to Life.”

Pence is not the only Trump supporter turned Never Trumper to change their position on abortion to attack the former president.

Jenna Ellis, a former legal advisor to Trump, has also attacked his pro-states’ rights stance as “weak“, but previously argued that leaving abortion to the states was the “constitutionally correct answer.”

WATCH: Trump Announces His Winning Strategy on Abortion.

Donald Trump has issued a video statement on abortion and access to fertility treatments, saying, “The Republican party should always be on the side of the miracle of life, and the side of mothers, fathers, and their beautiful babies.”

Trump stressed that supporting in vitro fertilization (IVF) was an “important part” of supporting parents in their “quest for the ultimate joy in life,” praising the Alabama legislature for answering his call to protect IVF access following a controversial ruling by state judges.

On abortion, the former president celebrated the ending of Roe v. Wade, saying, “It must be remembered that the Democrats are the radical ones on this position because they support abortion up to and even beyond the ninth month.”

“The concept of having an abortion in the later months and even execution after birth — and that’s exactly what it is, the baby is born, the baby is executed after birth — is unacceptable, and almost everyone agrees with that,” he said.

Trump said he supports the states being allowed to decide on abortion limits, saying many will have different rules, but “at the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people.”

NIGHTMARE: Ballot Measures On Abortion Rights and Weed Green Lit in Sunshine State.

The Florida Supreme Court issued two rulings on Monday approving ballot measures that could broaden abortion rights and legalize the recreational use of marijuana in the state. Florida’s Republican Attorney General, Ashley Moody, asked the state’s high court to review both measures late last year — arguing that the language was too vague and could confuse voters. Under Florida law, the state Supreme Court reviews all ballot measures for clarity prior to an election.

In a 39-page brief filed in November, Moody contended that the abortion rights ballot measure should be kept off of the 2024 ballot as it misleads voters regarding just how expansive the proposed abortion rights would be. “The ballot summary here is part of a … design to lay ticking time bombs that will enable abortion proponents later to argue that the amendment has a much broader meaning than voters would ever have thought,” Moody argued in her court filing. If the measure is adopted by Florida voters, abortion in the state would remain legal up to fetal viability — the definition of ‘viability’ being the cause of the Attorney General’s concern.

At the same time, the Florida Supreme Court reaffirmed the ban on abortions beyond 15 weeks that Governor Ron DeSantis instituted in April 2022. DeSantis also enacted a six-week ban in the wake of the 15-week ban, structured to begin a month following court approval of the 15-week ban. Given Monday’s ruling, the six-week ban could start being enforced in May.

In addition to the abortion ballot question, the court also approved a separate measure asking voters if they want to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in the state. The ballot measure would legalize the possession of marijuana for personal use and allow the sale to residents over the age of 21.

DATA: Americans Doubt Biden’s ‘Devout Catholicism.’

Recent data from a Pew Research poll indicates that a significant proportion of Americans are skeptical about President Biden’s self-professed devout Catholicism. The survey, conducted in late February, revealed that a mere 13 percent of Americans view Biden as very religious. On the other hand, 41 percent believe he is somewhat religious. Notably, 44 percent think he lacks substantial religious conviction.

This data emerges amidst Biden’s self-declared devout Catholic campaign narrative, underscored by regular church attendance and even echoed in White House descriptions of the president, particularly when justifying his strong pro-choice position on abortion.

President Biden’s faith and views on abortion have sparked controversy with the Catholic Church and drawn criticism from Pope Francis last July, who described them as ‘incoherent.’ Despite the critique, the pair met later that year when, according to Biden, he received Pope Francisencouragement to continue receiving communion.

The friction between President Biden’s faith and his abortion stance has been seized upon by Former President Trump, remarking that voting for Biden would be ‘crazy’ for Catholics. Interestingly, according to the Pew Research poll, only 4 percent of Americans viewed Trump as very religious, whereas 68 percent identified him as not particularly religious.

YouTube Violating Pro-Life Group’s 1A Rights With Forced Disclaimer.

A coalition of Republican attorneys general (AGs) is calling upon YouTube to remove a “misleading” disclaimer from a video posted by the pro-life group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). The video features a woman’s account of terrifying complications experienced during a self-induced chemical abortion.

The AGs, led by Iowa’s Brenna Bird, contend that YouTube – owned by Alphabet, the parent company of Google – exhibited bias and potentially illegal behavior by adding “objectively untruthful” context notes to the ADF video. They claim YouTube’s actions create disparities between access to pro-life and pro-choice content, contravening the principles of free speech protected under the First Amendment.

“Your bias against pro-life and pro-woman messages is un-American, inconsistent with the liberties protected by the First Amendment, and, in this case, illegal. It must stop,” the coalition of 16 state AGs said in a letter to YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.

YouTube’s ‘context’ note claims, “abortion is a procedure to end a pregnancy. It uses medicine or surgery to remove the embryo or fetus and placenta from the uterus. The procedure is done by a licensed healthcare professional.” However, the AGs argue the note is factually incorrect.

“It suggests that chemical abortions are performed by trained professionals. They are not. Although surgical abortions are still typically ‘done by a licensed healthcare professional,’ under current FDA protocols, chemical abortions are ‘done by’ pregnant women themselves,” the AG’s letter contents. They add that by posting false information, YouTube — in this case — is no longer protected by legal immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

If YouTube fails to correct or remove the contested disclaimer, the coalition of Attorneys General says they will move to invoke their consumer protection authority.

France Becomes First Country to Make Abortion a Constitutional ‘Right.’

The French Parliament has overwhelmingly voted to enshrine abortion as a constitutional right, making France the first country on Earth to guarantee the “right” to murder unborn babies.

The government of Emmanuel Macron introduced the measure in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and to shore up support electoral support in the face of resurgent right-wing populist movements and parties throughout Europe, including France’s National Rally. National Rally is leading in French polls ahead of the European elections in June, dominating the pro-Macron bloc by 12 points.

Enshrining abortion rights is a way of “uniting against conservatives and reactionaries,” Christopher Weissberg, a Pro-Macron MP, told POLITICO. “It helped build consensus and show ourselves under a progressive light.”

But whether the move will be enough to take votes away from the far-left socialist bloc in the French parliament remains to be seen. Mathilde Panot, head of the left-wing France Unbowed group, claimed that Macron only introduced the measure because of far-left feminist groups and parliamentarians. “He can boast, but it’s first and foremost our victory,” she said.

CVS, Walgreens to Dispense Abortion Pill Mifepristone.

Two of the largest drugstore chains in the U.S. have announced their plans to dispense mifepristone — an abortion pill — in select states within weeks. CVS Health will begin providing the abortifacient at their pharmacies in Rhode Island and neighboring Massachusetts, with Walgreens rolling out its dispensing services in specific locations in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California, and Illinois.

A spokesman for Walgreens said the decision to make mifepristone available in only a few states was to “ensure quality, safety, and privacy for our patients, providers, and team members.” A spokeswoman for CVS Health said the drug would be made available in additional states “where allowed by law, on a rolling basis.”

President Joe Biden called the companies’ announcements an “important milestone” in ensuring access to abortion. He encouraged other pharmacies to seek certification to offer the drug. The decision by CVS and Walgreens comes over a year after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded the availability of abortion pills to include large pharmacy chains and mail-order companies.

The FDA first approved mifepristone in 2000 to terminate pregnancies up to 10 weeks, in combination with a secondary drug, misoprostol. The distribution of these drugs was — until recently — limited to specialized clinics and offices due to safety precautions. Presently, the U.S. Supreme Court is considering a challenge from conservative groups to reverse mifepristone’s approval or modify policies that facilitate its acquisition.
