At least five people have died in a shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes told reporters that the five dead include the suspect, a juvenile who is believed to be a student at the school, and that seven others have been hospitalized with injuries ranging from “minor” to “life-threatening.”
Officers found multiple gunshot victims, including the suspect, after responding to an active shooter call at the school at 10:57 AM on Monday. The private school, located on a 28-acre campus, educates around 390 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, serving approximately 200 families in Dane County. It was set to close for Christmas vacation following this week.
“Today is a sad, sad day, not just for Madison, but for our entire country,” Barnes commented. As of the time of publication, he is unwilling to disclose whether the victims were students, teachers, or a mix of both, insisting law enforcement must ensure the relevant information reaches their next of kin first.
The identity and motive of the suspect, if known, also remain undisclosed.
