Renowned Scottish Artist Jack Vettriano Passes Away at 73.

Scottish painter Jack Vettriano has passed away at the age of 73. His publicist confirmed that he was found in his Nice, France apartment on Saturday. Authorities have indicated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Born in Methil, Fife, in November 1951 under the name Jack Hoggan, Vettriano left school at 15 to work as a mining engineer. His passion for painting was sparked at 21 when a girlfriend gifted him a box of watercolors. Vettriano taught himself, drawing inspiration from masterpieces at Kirkcaldy Galleries.

His breakthrough in the art world came in 1998. After submitting two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual exhibition, both sold on the first day. One of his most renowned works, The Singing Butler, gained tremendous fame. The 1992 painting depicts a couple dancing on a windy beach, attended by a butler and maid, and became one of Britain’s best-selling images.

Throughout his career, Vettriano’s works received international acclaim and were exhibited in cities such as Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, and New York. Notable collectors of his paintings included Jack Nicholson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Tim Rice, and Robbie Coltrane. Although his net worth wasn’t publicly disclosed, some of Vettriano’s paintings fetched up to £500,000 at auction.

Vettriano was part of a trio of artists in 2017 selected to paint portraits of comedian Billy Connolly for his 75th birthday, alongside John Byrne and Rachel Maclean. His work was celebrated in retrospectives, including a prominent exhibition in 2013 at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, which attracted over 136,000 visitors.

Upon his passing, tributes poured in, including from Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney and Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, both recognizing his significant impact on Scottish art. Vettriano’s legacy will endure through his evocative and timeless works.

Hunter Artwork Supposedly Worth Millions Destroyed in CA Wildfire.

Nearly 200 pieces of Hunter Biden’s artwork, claimed to be worth millions, may have been destroyed by the wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles County. These pieces were stored near the Pacific Palisades mansion of Hunter’s controversial attorney, Kevin Morris, who has previously loaned the First Son millions of dollars to cover tax debts and funded a documentary about him.

Morris resides in a luxurious five-bedroom mansion, seemingly unscathed by the fires. However, storage for Hunter’s art nearby was reportedly less fortunate.

The art created by Hunter, who took up painting during his recovery from drug addiction, has been under scrutiny. Valued exorbitantly, some pieces fetched prices as high as $500,000, with an average price tag of around $85,000, according to his former gallerist, Georges Berges.

Morris alone purchased $875,000 worth of these works. Berges testified before a congressional panel that Hunter was aware of the identities of most of his art buyers, contradicting White House claims of anonymity to prevent conflicts of interest.

Among other notable buyers is Democrat donor Elizabeth “Liz” Hirsh Naftali. She acquired art by Hunter both before and after receiving a presidential appointment to the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad. from his father.

Joe Biden controversially pardoned Hunter last month for gun and tax evasion charges despite promising he would not do so before the U.S. elections.

Statue of Obese ‘Woman of Color’ to Be Installed in London’s Trafalgar Square.

A statue of an obese “metropolitan woman of color” will be installed in London’s iconic Trafalgar Square, alongside a monument to Admiral Lord Nelson, the Hero of Trafalgar, and statues of King George IV and war heroes General Sir Charles James Napier and Major-General Sir Henry Havelock.

Titled ‘Lady in Blue,’ the sculpture by Harlem-born Tschabalala Self will be placed on the so-called “fourth plinth,” an empty pedestal originally intended to hold an equestrian statue of King William IV, in 2026. It will feature a black female with prominent buttocks wearing platform shoes and a revealing blue dress.

Self says the sculpture “pays homage to a young, metropolitan woman of color who could be just one of many Londoners today.”

It was authorized by the Fourth Plinth Commissioning Group, which operates under Mayor Sadiq Khan’s so-called Culture Team.

It will not be permanent, with the city authorities rotating a series of often woke installations on the fourth plinth. ‘Towards an Uncertain Future,’ a shapeless green mass by Romanian sculptor Andra Ursuța, is set to replace it in 2028.

Protesters Douse Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa in Soup.

Protesters attacked Leonardo Da Vinci’s infamous Mona Lisa painting at the Louvre Museum in Paris on Saturday, hurling soup at the impenetrable glass encasing the 16th-century artwork. The perpetrators, both women wearing T-shirts with the message “food counterattack,” asserted demands for “healthy and sustainable food,” deeming the nation’s agricultural system “sick.” Museum security stepped in, setting up black screens to obscure the protesters before the area was evacuated.

The group, known in French as Riposte Alimentaire, is demanding that the state give citizens a monthly food card worth €150 ($165).

The Mona Lisa has been protected by robust glass since the early 1950s after an acid attack by a visitor. It was attacked with cake in 2022.

The revered artwork has weathered various ordeals, including an infamous theft in 1911 by a Louvre employee, Vincenzo Peruggia. Secreting himself in a museum cupboard overnight, Peruggia absconded with the piece, sparking an international attention. The purloined painting resurfaced two years later when Peruggia attempted to sell it to an antiques dealer in Florence, Italy.
