Veteran Faces Hate Crime Charges For Dismantling Iowa’s Satanic Statue.

Christian veteran Michael Cassidy, who took the head off a satanic Baphomet statue at the Iowa State Capitol last year, has been charged with a hate crime.

WTF is Baphomet? It’s a symbolic figure in the Satanic Temple, often depicted as a goat-headed deity.

Back up: Last December, the Satanic temple put up the Baphomet statue in opposition to a Nativity scene on display at the Iowa Statehouse.

  • On December 15, 2023, Cassidy took the head off the satanic display and smashed it on the floor, saying he did it to “awaken Christians to the anti-Christian acts promoted by our government.”
The charges: Cassidy was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief at the time of his arrest. But prosecutors later amended their charges to add the hate crime charges. They claimed:
  • “Evidence shows the defendant made statements to law enforcement and the public indicating he destroyed the property because of the victim’s religion.”

The penalty: Cassidy now faces a fine of up to $7,500 and up to five years in prison.

The last word goes to Human Events Senior Editor Jack Posobiec, who wrote on X:

  • “A Christian veteran was just charged with a hate crime yesterday for knocking over a statue of Satan, the personification of evil. This happened in Iowa, America’s heartland. This is what our country has become.”
