The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), has advanced Kash Patel‘s nomination to serve as President Donald J. Trump’s Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Patel’s committee vote was delayed one week after Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) used a rule available to the committee’s minority party to place a hold over on the nomination.
After clearing the Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote, Patel’s nomination will now advance to the full Senate. After Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) files cloture on the nomination, the Senate will proceed to 30 hours of debate before a final confirmation vote on Patel is held. As it stands, it appears that Patel has secured a majority of Senators to support his nomination and should clear the chamber fairly easily.
Speaking before the Judiciary Committee vote, Sen. Grassley noted the need for Patel at the FBI to address and clean up the targeting of U.S. citizens through targeted harassment and lawfare. Patel, Grassley contends, is uniquely qualified to take on needed reforms at the bureau.
“Mr. Patel is the man to do it, and that is why he’s being attacked so viciously now,” Grassley said before slamming the Democratic Party smears leveled at the FBI director nominee.

Approximately 75,000 federal workers have opted for President Donald J. Trump’s buyout program. This decision follows a federal judge lifting a temporary freeze on the offer. The initiative is part of President Trump’s strategy to reduce the federal workforce, which currently stands at 2.3 million. If employees resign now, the offer allows them to continue receiving salaries and benefits until October.
On Wednesday, Massachusetts U.S. District Court Judge George O’Toole ruled against unions seeking to block the buyout, stating they lack standing in the legal challenge. Additionally, Judge O’Toole determined his court lacked jurisdiction even to hear the matter.
Consequently, the Trump administration has closed the buyout offer window and is set to prepare for significant job cuts across federal agencies. Some departments have already begun laying off employees lacking job security protections, with potential cuts reaching 70 percent in certain areas.
Elon Musk, appointed by Trump to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), publicly supported these measures. Musk aims for a 40 percent total reduction in the federal workforce.
Federal agencies have been notified of upcoming reductions, with many departments beginning layoffs. Due to their strategic importance, the Defense (DoD) and Homeland Security (DHS) Departments are expected to remain largely unaffected. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has confirmed these cutbacks, describing them as a “reduction in force.”
The buyout program is anticipated to cover 5-10 percent of the workforce and, when the final number of workers who took the offer is determined, save $100 billion annually. Those accepting the program will be exempt from returning to in-person office work during their transition period, unlike their colleagues remaining in federal employment.

Los Angeles is currently implementing new workplace training that emphasizes gender inclusivity and addresses harassment for city employees that could run afoul of federal authorities under a directive signed by President Donald J. Trump. City employees, including those in the Fire Department, must complete annual “Workplace Harassment and Abusive Conduct” training. The training encourages the use of preferred pronouns and addresses gender identity as a protected category.
While the Trump executive order pertains to federal employees and contractors, it contains a provision that directs federal officials to stringently enforce certain civil rights and privacy protections afforded under federal law. The Los Angeles government’s workplace training program could be in violation of these protections, drawing civil action from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
According to a whistleblowerwhoprovided the training materials to The Federalist, Los Angeles public employees are being instructed on materials that explain terms related to gender identity and expression. Definitions include “gender expression,” “deadnaming,” and various gender identities such as “gender-fluid” and “two-spirit.” The training also covers policies regarding restroom use in accordance with gender identity and encourages employees to use gender-inclusive language with terms like “folks” and “squad.”
The whistleblower also highlighted explicit examples used in the training to illustrate inappropriate behavior, which included sexually suggestive conversations among cartoon characters. Employees must acknowledge the employer’s harassment policy by agreeing to the protocol presented in the training. The training is part of a broader policy established by Los Angeles in 2022 to foster workplace “equity” and reduce “discrimination.”
Los Angeles is currently recovering from historically devastating and deadlywildfires, which saw tens of thousands of acres burned across the metropolitan area.

U.S. District Court Judge George O’Toole has reinstated President Donald J. Trump’s buyout offer to federal workers under the “Fork in the Road” deferred resignation program. The judge ruled the government unions who filed a lawsuit seeking to block the program lack legal standing and that his court lacks the judicial jurisdiction to even rule on the matter.
Last week, Judge O’Toole delayed the deadline for federal workers to accept the buyout offer, originally slated for February 6 at 11:59 PM, until he could hear arguments from both the plaintiffs and the Trump administration on the matter. The “Fork in the Road” deferred resignation program offers government employees eight months of pay and benefits in exchange for their voluntary resignation at a preset date in the Fall of 2025.
“The plaintiffs here are not directly impacted by the directive. Instead, they allege that the directive subjects them to upstream effects including a diversion of resources to answer members’ questions about the directive, a potential loss of membership, and possible reputational harm,” Judge O’Toole wrote in his decision. He continued: ” The unions do not have the required direct stake in the Fork Directive, but are challenging a policy that affects others, specifically executive branch employees. This is not sufficient.”
In addition, addressing the court’s legal jurisdiction, Judge O’Toole wrote: “Second, this Court lacks subject matter jurisdiction to consider the plaintiffs’ pleaded claims. While not binding on this Court, the decision in Am. Fed’n of Gov’t Emps., AFL-CIO v. Trump (‘AFGE’) is instructive. 929 F.3d 748 (D.C. Cir. 2019)… The two APA claims alleged in this case are the type of challenges Congress intended for review within the statutory scheme, which provides for ‘administrative and judicial review.'”
An estimated 65,000 federal employees have already accepted the buyout.

Mexico is making further overtures to avert President Donald J. Trump’s imposition of tariffs on exports to America. In their latest move, at President Claudia Sheibaum’s urging, the Mexican Senate approved on Tuesday the entry of a U.S. Special Forces group into the country, ostensibly to train Mexico’s marines as part of the “Strengthening the Capacity of the Special Operations Forces of the Navy” program.
The training arrangement—which was approved by a unanimous vote—will see a contingent of U.S. military personnel serving as advisors and trainers for Mexico’s marine forces, with a special focus on combating the country’s drug cartels. A similar agreement was approved during the six-year term of Mexican President López Obrador, which saw 11 U.S. military personnel enter Mexico to oversee marine training.
Upon final approval by Mexico’s Ministry of the Interior and the Board of Directors of the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union, the U.S. military personnel will oversee training exercises from February 17 to March 28, 2025.
“With the authorization of that legislative body, a delegation made up of 10 members of the Seventh Special Forces Group of the United States of America would enter the national territory, which will carry the weapons, ammunition, material, and special equipment necessary for joint combined training,” President Sheinbaum said. The training will primarily focus on amphibious assaults, aquatic combat, and conventional and unconventional combat tactics.
The move comes as President Trump has increased pressure on both Mexico and Canada to crack down on illegal drug trafficking into the United States. Earlier this month, Trump announced and then paused the imposition of 25 percent tariffs on exports from America’s northern and southern neighbors after both countries indicated they would undertake new measures to curb the flow of illicit drugs.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced during Wednesday’s press briefing that President Donald J. Trump‘s policy of mass deportating illegal immigrants is continuing apace. This week already, according to Leavitt, 190 illegal immigrants from Venezuela have been returned directly to their home country on two deportation flights.
“On another important matter this week, illegal alien criminals continue to be arrested and sent home as part of the ongoing mass deportation effort of the Trump administration,” Leavitt stated during the White House press briefing. She continued: “Just this week, two planes—with 190 Venezuelan illegal aliens—arrived in the Venezuelan capital from Fort Bliss, Texas.”
She then provided examples of “some of the criminal illegal aliens who were arrested in the country this past week,” including “a citizen of Nigeria who had been convicted of money laundering,” a “citizen of Mexico who had been convicted of assault, and two more citizens convicted of aggravated assault.
The Trump administration is arranging for migrants who cannot be deported directly to their home countries to instead by removed to Guatemala or, in the case of criminals, El Salvador, or detained in Guantanamo Bay.

President Trump authorized the beginning of the mass deportation program—spearheaded by border czar Tom Homan—almost immediately after taking the Oath of Office on January 20 of this year. However, while raids led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue, interference by open borders advocates, George Soros-controlled media companies, and even employees of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has resulted in illegal immigrants being tipped off to pending raids in several instances.
Subsequently, The National Pulse reported on Tuesday that Homan confirmed an individual connected to the FBI was the source of a leak that tipped off media and illegal immigrant gang members to an ICE raid in Los Angeles.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), led by Secretary Kristi Noem, has recovered all $59 million funneled by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to luxury hotels hosting migrants in defiance of an executive order from President Donald J. Trump. “Secretary Noem has clawed back the full payment that FEMA deep state activists unilaterally gave to NYC migrant hotels,” the DHS said in a statement. “There will not be a single penny spent that goes against the interest and safety of the American people.”
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) identified the unauthorized payments, with DOGE chief Elon Musk alleging they “violated the law… in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.” Subsequently, the DHS announced that four government employees had been fired over the payments.
Following the scandal, President Trump branded FEMA a “disaster” and said it should be “terminated,” recalling its poor performance after hurricanes struck the United States in late 2024. FEMA workers in Florida were found to be deliberately skipping homes belonging to Trump supporters when providing assistance. At the same time, FEMA workers in North Carolina blocked or seized aid from private entities and declined to help certain disaster victims, claiming they felt “threatened” by them.

President Donald J. Trump says President Vladimir Putin has agreed to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine “immediately,” following what he described as a “lengthy and highly productive phone call” with the Russian leader. President Trump announced on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday that an agreement has been struck to “work together, very closely, including visiting each other’s Nations” to stop “the millions of deaths taking place” in the conflict.
“We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now,” Trump wrote. He added that he is dispatching “Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the CIA John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to lead the negotiations which, I feel strongly, will be successful.”
Additionally, Trump indicates that he intends to make an official visit to Russia and that Putin has agreed to make an official state visit to the United States as well.
COMMON SENSE.
The pair are said to have reflected on their time as allies during the Second World War, when Russia—then the leading socialist republic within the Soviet Union—while “remembering, that Russia lost tens of millions of people, and we, likewise, lost so many!”
“We each talked about the strengths of our respective Nations, and the great benefit that we will someday have in working together… President Putin even used my very strong Campaign motto of, ‘COMMON SENSE.’ We both believe very strongly in it,” the America First leader said.
During his inaugural address, President Trump vowed that his “proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and a unifier.”
In addition to Ukraine, Trump, and Putin also “the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, [and] the power of the Dollar”—with Trump previously threatening crippling sanctions should the ‘BRICS’ alliance that includes Russia attempt to launch a currency rivaling the U.S. dollar for global supremacy.

Neoconservative advocates of global “democracy” promotion are up in arms over the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) move to freeze funds for the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Eli Lake, writing in Bari Weiss’s The Free Press, contends that “NED, a key U.S. instrument for supporting grassroots freedom movements around the world, is under siege from Elon Musk’s DOGE.”
According to Lake, the DOGE-initiated funding freeze has “crippled the organization.” The neoconservative writer goes on to assert: “NED’s dismantling would be far more than a cost-cutting measure. It would symbolize a major change in U.S. foreign policy, undercutting the notion that democratic ideals foster U.S. global strength and influence.”
In halting NED’s funding, Lake argues, “…the Trump administration would be signaling that it no longer believes that promoting democracy around the globe is in the national interest.”
Lake’s essay was echoed on X (formerly Twitter) by The Free Press founder Bari Weiss, prompting a snarky response from DOGE chief Elon Musk. “What did NED get done last week?” Musk wrote in a reply to Weiss.
Established in 1983 during Ronald Reagan’s presidency, the NED is a supposedly independent nonprofit that claims to be dedicated to bolstering democratic institutions worldwide. It allocates over 2,000 grants annually for nongovernmental group initiatives across more than 100 countries, primarily funded by U.S. government allocations through Congress.
Many allege it squanders funds on undermining conservative governments in allied nations such as Hungary while boosting leftist media and politicians. Similar allegations have been leveled against the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with President Trump moving to essentially abolish the agency last week.

The United States Senate has confirmed President Donald J. Trump’s nomination of Tulsi Gabbard to serve as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) in a 52-48 vote. Considered one of the America First leader’s more contentious nominees, resistance to Gabbard collapsed on Monday, with several Senate Republican holdouts announcing their support for the DNI pick.
Nominated a week after Trump’s landslide 2024 presidential election victory, Gabbard has drawn support from numerous Republican lawmakers, America First foreign policy advocates, and the National Sheriffs’ Association. Meanwhile, the opposition to Gabbard’s nomination to serve as DNI has predominantly come from disgraced neoconservatives and globalists like former National Security Advisor John Bolton—stripped of his security clearance by President Trump late last month.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Gabbard became one of Trump’s most prominent non-Republican endorsements, along with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who suspended his independent bid for the White House to back the America First leader. A former Democratic Congresswoman representing Hawaii, Gabbard has since renounced her Democratic Party membership, and after a stint as a political independent she joined the Republican Party.
An Iraq War veteran noted for her opposition to neoconservative “forever wars,” Gabbard is currently an active-duty member of the U.S. Army Reserves, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. From 2013 to 2016, Gabbard served as a vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) before resigning to back Senator Bernie Sanders during the 2016 presidential primary.
