At least 10 illegal immigrants were reportedly injured this weekend after falling from a wall at Border Field State Park, according to reports from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Authorities labeled The incident a “mass casualty” event, as U.S. Customs and Border Protection sought external assistance. The injured ranged in age from 18 to mid-40s and suffered mild injuries, with the most severe being a broken leg.
Pedro Rios, director of the American Friends Service Committee’s U.S./Mexico Border Program, said the injuries are not unique. Many illegals experience such injuries, scaling Donald Trump’s wall to enter the United States. He noted that wet weather conditions possibly contributed to the incident’s severity by making the wall more slippery. Earlier in the day, Rios had observed over a hundred people in the area, some of whom admitted scaling the wall.
Recent additions to the wall have included an anti-climbing feature and metal rooftop-like segments. If tests are successful, these will be installed on other wall parts.
