Chinese Communist Party-run media is the Democratic Party’s newest ally in the push for widespread absentee ballot usage in the 2020 election.
Branding Republican opposition to the practice as “a denial of American democracy” after President Trump criticized it on Twitter, analysis from CCP-funded, Beijing-based University of International Business and Economics Professor John Gong in China Global Television Network (CGTN) – a registered “foreign agent” in the U.S. – questions “the big difference between exercising one’s democratic right by physically going to a polling station versus exercising the same right by mailing” and why President Trump is “scared” of the prospect.
The article proceeds to answer its own question in lockstep with the left and their establishment media counterparts:
“For years, the Republican Party’s entire operation philosophy is based on the hope and wish of minimizing voter turnout for a diminishing American democracy.”
The piece follows an onslaught of coverage on the subject from establishment media outlets including “Will Americans Lose Their Right to Vote in the Pandemic?” and “Trump Steps Up Attacks on Mail Vote, Making False Claims About Fraud” from The New York Times and “Trump’s Phony Claims About ‘Illegal’ Voting in Michigan and Nevada” from The Washington Post. It also mimics the left-wing narrative that Republicans are scheming to suppress votes from “the poor and the less privileged.”
Presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has endorsed nationwide use of absentee voting, similarly likening President Trump’s objection to the method as a means to “undermine the election” and doing “all that he can to make it very hard for people to vote.”
In reality, absentee ballots are a fount for voter error at best and voter fraud at worst. West Virginia’s Secretary of State recently announced an “absentee ballot fraud scheme in the state that was connected to the state’s mass effort for absentee voting amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” and since 2012, nearly 30 million absentee ballots have been lost nationwide according to federal data.
And critics of this voting method are right to view at as another avenue for Democrats to damage election integrity: the Department of Justice recently exposed a Pennsylvania judge giving votes to Democrat candidates at the paid behest of a Democratic political consultant.
Taking notes from mainstream media, the piece continues with anti-Trump drivel: President Trump “probably doesn’t know that he doesn’t have that right, or probably even if he knows, he doesn’t care about it” and “like many of the egregious things Trump has done in the past during his reign, this is one more act of blatant assault on American democracy before he will be gone for good in November.”
Not only are CGTN’s claims of President Trump undoing American democracy baseless, but they’re also deeply ironic coming from a media outlet controlled by the CCP, an authoritarian regime that lacks elections for all positions except at the hyper-local level and consistently subverts bedrocks for democracy including freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the rule of law.
Even The New York Times characterizes the scant elections that do occur as “democratic in name only” since “the party picks its preferred candidates and leaves no room for an upset.”
In short, the CCP’s embrace of absentee voting should be a major red flag.
