How N.H. Common Core Moms Made Candidates Take Notice

New Hampshire is about to embark on a tradition like no other. We are about to go to the polls to elect a candidate in the primary election who will likely be a nominee for President of the United States. What most people don’t know, however, is that the groundwork for one of the major issues of this election was laid years ago by moms and parents across New Hampshire. In 2010, New Hampshire’s Board of Education voted, with little notice to the public, to adopt the Common Core Standards. However, alert parents researched the standards and began to warn others about

Christie Joins Graham in Attacking Rubio for Being Too Pro-Life

As Mary noted yesterday, a new line of attack by Senator Lindsey Graham, who has endorsed Jeb Bush, is that Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz are too pro-life because they oppose, in principle, abortion in the case of rape. Now Chris Christie has joined Graham’s anti-pro-life tactic. Today on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Christie declared, “Marco Rubio is not for an exception for . . . rape, incest or life of the mother. Now, you know, I think that’s the kind of position that New Hampshire voters would be really concerned about. I’m pro-life, but I believe that rape, incest and life of the mother — as Ronald Reagan did — should

The Forgotten Story: How Common Core Changed the Race in Iowa

Now that Iowa caucus-goers have spoken, lost in the discussion of Donald Trump’s underperformance, Ted Cruz’s ground game and Marco Rubio’s surge is an acknowledgement of one issue that separated the top Iowa finishers from (as Trump would say) the “losers.” That issue is Common Core. Cruz and Rubio have long been on record as opposing the national standards. Trump has relentlessly raised the issue ever since he entered the race. As the Iowa campaign came down to the wire, Trump released a Common Core-specific ad, and Rubio began devoting more and more time in his stump speech to the

Christie Attacks Rubio

New Hampshire is the last chance for Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, and John Kasich to break into this race, and Christie is throwing down the gauntlet hard. Interestingly, he’s ignoring Ted Cruz and Donald Trump but has the knives out for Marco Rubio big time: “It’s time for him to man up and step up and stop letting all of his handlers write his speeches and handle him,” Christie said. “If he wants to sit here and answer your tough questions about his flip-flops on immigration, if he wants to answer your tough questions about his lack of record and

Here’s How Iowa Will Play Out…

Wow. It’s already here. The Iowa Caucus is tomorrow. Here’s a candidate-by-candidate review of what could happen, what should happen, and what will happen after the votes are tallied: Donald Trump Best-case scenario: A strong 1st place finish (35 percent+) Worst-case scenario: Losing to Ted Cruz and finishing second. Trump currently leads the polls in Iowa, but will polls translate to the ballot box? We honestly have no clue, but we should certainly have a better idea after Tuesday. Regardless of what happens in Iowa, Trump is here to stay. Losing Iowa will not end his candidacy — not when

Chris Christie Is Not Telling the Truth about Religious Liberty

If Chris Christie now supports religious exemptions for marriage clerks – that is good. But he is misleading Iowans, in the exact way Americans hate career politicians, if he says he has always supported them or Kim Davis. Straight-talking is a precious resource. I welcome Chris Christie to the circle of those who are willing to provide religious accommodations for gay marriage dissenters. But if he really is willing, why won’t he provide them for marriage clerks in New Jersey? And why has he refused to support FADA, which protects gay marriage dissenters from discrimination by the federal government? Here’s

Watch: Did Christie Really Call Pro-Lifers “Divisive”?

I wrote a few days ago about Chris Christie’s New Hampshire town hall in which The New York Times reported he called some pro-lifers “divisive.” A video has now emerged of the event. Christie clearly didn’t intend to indict the whole pro-life movement, and he specifically says he doesn’t think you should walk up to a pro-choice person and call them a “baby-killer.” Well, of course I agree. My problem is that I don’t know any major pro-life spokesman who does that. Was my post unfair to Christie? I know that pro-lifers are extremely tired of being tarred with the extremist and

Left-Leaning Group Hammers Christie on Abortion, Guns

Not even a day after Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) referred to pro-life activists as “divisive” in an apparent shift left, a Democrat-leaning group has begun running social media ads hitting him on his stances on gun rights and abortion. The ads, produced for the group American Bridge 21st Century on Facebook and Twitter, begin with Christie telling a detractor to “sit down and shut up” and highlight Christie’s record of vetoing legislation restricting citizens’ 2nd Amendment rights. They also bring up his decision to cut off state funding for Planned Parenthood. These attacks come at a time when Christie is facing
