DEBUNKED: Corporate Media’s Top Trending Ukraine Stories Turn Out To Be Complete Fakes.

A number of popular stories chronicling Ukraine’s resistance against Russia’s ongoing invasion – including those promoted by U.S. Congressmen, media outlets, and even conservatives online – have turned out to be false, despite garnering millions of shares and likes. The viral, fake stories come amidst social media platforms rolling out robust “fact-checking” operations, often used to swiftly censor stories counter to establishment narratives or critical of the Democratic Party. These programs, however, have routinely failed to flag the following stories as false with the same tenacity. Editor's Note: For the avoidance of doubt, The National Pulse is against wars of

Pfizer is Funding Facebook’s Fact-Checking Partner.

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. is sponsoring journalism training programs utilized by Facebook to train its “fact-checking” partners and censor stories and posts critical of COVID-19 vaccines. The International Center For Journalists (ICFJ) – itself funded by the Open Society Foundations amongst others – is partnered with Meta, Facebook’s parent company, on its “Journalism Project” initiative. In turn, Facebook relies on the journalists funded and trained by ICFJ to “combat misinformation” on its platform through its controversial fact-checking operation. Together, Facebook and the ICFJ have funded news outlets based in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East with a focus on COVID-19 reporting. Facebook’s

A Google-Funded ‘Fact Check’ Team is a Handful of Indians With No Experience in Journalism in a Small Town Near Bangladesh.

Last week Instagram notified me that a viral post I had published was “fact checked” by a group called ‘The Healthy Indian Project’. My mother is from Bombay, and I did lose 40lbs last year, but I didn’t think they had created an entire unit just for me. So, I decided to find out who this group is. My findings are bemusing. The Healthy Indian Project (‘THIP’) appears to have started as a fitness and lifestyle site in 2018. Its CEO – Sudipta Sengupta – is a life-long marketing consultant from a small city (Gurgaon, Haryana) in India. The group is a

Facebook Just Admitted in Court That its ‘Fact-Checks’ Are Just Third Party ‘Opinions’.

Facebook (aka “Meta”) has admitted in court that the “fact-checks” used by the site to blacklist non-corporate media content are actually opinion-based labels which do not conduct any real fact-checking of information posted to the site. The evidence was revealed during the court proceeding for a defamation case filed by John Stossel. Stossel’s work on climate change was labeled by Facebook as “false and misleading.” In response to Stossel’s suit, Facebook wrote that the company cannot be sued for defamation in relation to the fact-checking. Defamation is defined as “making false and harmful assertions.” Under this definition, Facebook argued that

Editor For ‘Unbiased’ Facebook Fact Checker Tried To Bankrupt Conservative News Sites.

An editor for Lead Stories – a “fact-checking” outlet working for social media platforms including Facebook and TikTok – has attempted to coerce advertisers into dropping conservative media outlets as clients in social media posts unearthed by The National Pulse. The unearthed posts on Twitter from Lead Stories Copy Editor Leslie Lapides follow the outlet’s founder and Editor-in-Chief Alan Duke repeatedly denying allegations of left-wing bias. Contrary to Duke’s insistence, Lapides has tweeted at least four times in support of a Sleeping Giants campaign targeting advertisers listed on Breitbart News. Sleeping Giants, which avows to “make bigotry and sexism less profitable,”

SCALP: Facebook’s Fact Checker Says They Removed Staff After National Pulse Exposé.

Alan Duke, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Facebook’s fact-checking partner Lead Stories, admitted a National Pulse exposé into a writer’s financial support for Democratic candidates led to their removal from the role of “fact checking” political stories for the site.  A National Pulse exposé from June 2020 – “Facebook’s Fact-Checker ‘Lead Stories’ Is Staffed By Exclusively Democrat Party Donors, CNN Staffers, And ‘Defeat Trump’ Activists” – revealed that writer Gita Smith repeatedly donated to Democratic candidates and left-wing groups according to the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The left-wing donations are at odds with the outlet’s frequent claims they are unbiased
