Gov. Haley Makes S.C. Latest State to Protect Unborn After 20 Weeks

Fierce pro-life advocate and two-term South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signed into law a measure Wednesday afternoon which seeks to ban abortion in the state after the first twenty weeks gestation, except in cases where the life of the mother is threatened. Haley signed the bill after it was passed by a margin of 79-29 late Tuesday in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Mounting medical evidence shows that fetuses are capable of feeling pain after just twenty weeks in the womb and that fetal viability has now, in the majority of cases, exceeded the Supreme Court’s threshold set at

Should the Pro-Life Movement Bet on Donald Trump?

Two big news items happened this week that revealed a lot about the pro-life movement’s evolving relationship with Donald Trump: 1.) Donald Trump released a list of 11 pro-life judges as potential Supreme Court nominees. Trump explained why he released the list to Fox News: I have a lot of people that are conservative that really like me, love everything I stand for, but they really would like to know my view, because perhaps outside of the defense of our country, perhaps the single most important thing the next president is going to have to do is pick Supreme Court justices.

The Pro-Life Case for Donald Trump

At long last, the Republicans have a presumptive nominee in Donald Trump. For those of us concerned about the right to life of the unborn, now is a good time to reexamine what we know about Mr. Trump, as well as his most likely opponent, Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump has made very specific pro-life commitments on the campaign trail. In July of last year, Trump was asked to support of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the pro-life movement’s top priority legislation, which would stop abortions after five months – more than halfway through pregnancy. This legislation has passed 15

Women Legislators Achieving Pro-Life Victories Nationwide

South Dakota just became the 16th state to stop abortion after five months — a point in pregnancy by which unborn children feel pain. State Senator Jenna Haggar, a longtime pro-life leader in the state and a stalwart member of the Susan B. Anthony List’s National Pro-life Women’s Caucus, was a lead author of the bill, which passed Monday and was a signed by Governor Daugaard late Thursday. State Senator Haggar is in good company. Women legislators are responsible for a flurry of state-level activity to protect unborn children and their mothers from abortion. The efforts moving in at least

Enough Is Enough, Mr. Trump: You Must Be Pro-Woman to Be Pro-Life

This piece was co-authored by Bob Morrison. Is it possible to be pro-life without being pro-woman? The answer to that question may help pro-life Americans sort out the GOP field. After all, nearly all of the Republican candidates have endorsed the two cardinal priorities of the pro-life movement today: supporting a national limit on abortions late in pregnancy and ending public funding for Planned Parenthood. But check-the-box assessments of the candidates carry an inherent danger – overlooking the plain and obvious. Here is one thing that is plain and obvious to us: Donald Trump can lay no claim to being

Fiorina Responds to Liberal Critics: “This Messenger Will Not Be Silenced”

Earlier this week, Carly Fiorina appeared on Fox News’ “The Kelly File,” where host Megyn Kelly asked Fiorina to respond to criticism she was facing from the left for her stance on Planned Parenthood.  You can watch the full exchange here or read the transcript below: MEGYN KELLY: Joining me now, Republican presidential candidate and former CEO of Hewlett Packard, Carly Fiorina. Carly, thank you for being here tonight. So, your reaction to that? I mean, among other things online, some on the left are calling you and I quote, “A psychopath because of your words about Planned Parenthood.” CARLY

Ben Carson’s Muddled Messaging on Life

Ben Carson has time and time again affirmed his pro-life position. However, Dr. Carson has made several confusing statements that call that stance into question. These statements included bizarre, unprovoked statements in support of the abortion pill RU-486, his past participation in fetal tissue research, and his campaign’s muddled responses as to which legal restrictions on abortion Carson would support. Some may write off past statements as having been off-the-cuff remarks, or the product of misspeaking. However, in his most recent book, “A More Perfect Union,” Dr. Carson advocates for letting the states determine the legality of abortion on their

Pope Francis Is About to Shock the Democrats… contributor Kate Bryan wrote a fantastic op-ed that was published on IJ Review today: Pope Francis is about to pull a Jedi mind trick on the entire Democratic Party. Yesterday, Senate Democrats blocked the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a bill that would protect the lives of children in the womb after 20 weeks, at the point when babies can feel pain. This all happened just hours before the arrival of Pope Francis in Washington, D.C. Now Democrats are giddily anticipating a speech before a Joint Session of Congress on Thursday where Pope Francis will supposedly chastise Republicans on climate
