The satirical news site The Onion has secured Alex Jones‘s Infowars in a bankruptcy auction, backed by Sandy Hook families owed over $1 billion by Jones following a crippling defamation lawsuit. Robbie Parker, whose daughter was killed in the tragedy, celebrated the purchase, admitting the destruction of Jones’s business was an underlying goal of the defamation suit: “The dissolution of Alex Jones’ assets and the end of Infowars is the justice we have long awaited and fought for,” he said.
The sale price remains undisclosed, and Jones, in a social media video, has stated he intends to file legal objections. He also claims efforts are being made to shut down his studio presently, without a court order, and that he expects his broadcast on Thursday will be his last.
The Onion has so far declined to comment on its plans for Infowars’ assets, including the website, studio, and video archives.
Jones has said he plans to move his broadcasts to new platforms if necessary and that preparations have already been made.
