What Maggie Gallagher Is Looking for in Tonight’s Debate

I want to know if anyone will commit on national television to passing the First Amendment Defense Act.

But even more, I want to figure out why Dr. Ben Carson is surging in the polls as the alternative to Trump.  We at ThePulse2016.com were one of the first to recognize that Carson had emerged as a big winner in the first debate. On Aug. 9, I noted “the evidence is mounting” Carson won that debate, while the pundits were still obsessed with the feud between Trump and Megyn Kelly.

And at the time, I noted I was surprised: I watched that debate. Carson had one good line in it about Hillary Clinton, but he seemed otherwise AWOL, not really a presence to me.  I was wrong.  A lot of people were wrong about Ben Carson, as they were about Donald Trump.

What is the secret of Dr. Ben Carson’s appeal? I will be watching to figure it out.

Maggie Gallagher is a senior fellow at American Principles in Action.
