Why Leftist Arrogance Will Lead to 8 Years of President Trump

Yesterday, The New York Times published an op-ed entitled “America’s Whiniest ‘Victim’”. As expected, this piece perfectly encapsulated every Leftist talking point from the last few years in regards to the American right and Donald Trump. Starting with the outlandish statement that “Trump won because he whines,” author Charles M. Blow goes on to paint the entirety of his political opposition with the broadest of possible brushes and label every Trump supporter as members of the “Whiny Right.” As Blow writes:

In this way he was a perfect reflection of the new Whiny Right. Trump is its instrument, articulation, embodiment. He’s not so much representative of it but of an idea — the waning power of whiteness, privilege, patriarchy, access, and the cultural and economic surety that accrues to the possessors of such. Trump represents their emerging status of victims-in-their-own-minds.

The way they see it, they are victims of coastal and urban liberals and the elite institutions — economic, education and entertainment — clustered there. They are victims of an economy evolving in ways, both technical and geographic, that cuts them out or leaves them behind. They are victims of immigration and shifting American demographics. They are victims of shifting, cultural mores. They are victims of Washington.

The irony of such a statement is truly crushing. What Blow fails to understand is that arrogant media members like himself are the exact reason Donald Trump won the 2016 election. After 8 years of the Obama administration and further polarization along racial, gender and socio-economic lines, the average American has grown tired of identity politics. They are fed up with being told their opinions are less valuable because they are white, male or “cisgender.” They are sick of being told their accomplishments are due only to the “patriarchy” or that their failures are the result of a mysterious and inexplicable “institutional racism”; frankly, Americans are tired of being talked down to by out of touch, liberal elitists such as Charles M. Blow.

Americans are tired of having their motives attributed to their beliefs by arrogant journalists. They are fed up with men like Blow claiming their goal is simply to:

Turn back the clock to a time when privileges of whiteness were supreme and unassailable, misogyny was simply viewed as an extension of masculinity, women got back-alley abortions and worked for partial wages, coal was king and global warming was purely academic, and trans people weren’t in our bathrooms or barracks. The good old days.

Again, a more ridiculous caricature of the American Right cannot be created. To Blow and his ilk, the average Republican is a racist, sexist, bigoted homophobe who wants to oppress all women and minorities. Never mind the very real concerns of coal miners and American manufacturing workers who are uncertain how they will survive as their industries leave the United States, or the pro-lifers who simply want to protect the most innocent among us. To people like Charles Blow, those tens of millions of concerns are clearly nothing more than the longings of hate-filled bigots trying to reinstate Jim Crow.

Unfortunately, this way of thinking has become the norm for the most influential Leftist media outlets and the Democratic Party. Intersectionality reigns supreme and Political Correctness must be appeased at every turn. From Blow’s asinine caricatures, to Hillary Clinton calling Trump voters a “basket of deplorables,” to the Resistance Movement against a properly elected President, the Leftist media establishment has made it abundantly clear they in no way represent the average American.

As someone who did not support Trump in the primaries or vote for him in the general election, I am extremely critical of our current President. I consistently wish he was more polished, a better statesman, and more forceful at promoting conservative policies. But one thought rings increasingly true as the Left becomes more hysterically hyperbolic: everything could be so much worse.

This sentiment grows stronger with every ridiculous article run by The New York Times or biased panel aired by CNN. If Democrats and the American Left continue to double down on identity politics and the vilification of the average American, we will surely see four more years of President Trump and, unfortunately, a further polarization of our society.
