The destruction of a Ukrainian dam approaching the scale of America’s Hoover Dam has unleashed a devastating torrent of water in the country’s south. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky blamed Russia for damage to the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.
Russian officials, however, say the attack on the dam was a “deliberate act of sabotage” by Ukraine, “linked to the fact that, having begun large-scale offensive operations two days ago, the Ukrainian armed forces are not achieving their aims.”

The BBC opines that Ukraine’s claims are “plausible” given major flooding in the region could hinder a Ukrainian counter-offensive – but the Ukrainians told The Washington Post in December that they had been considered blowing the dam, and even conducted a successful HIMARS test strike on its floodgates:
“The Ukrainians… even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper’s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages.”
– Washington Post, December 29 2022
Several villages are currently believe to be submerged. The dam held back a volume of water roughly equivalent to the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced that no illegal aliens were released into the United States for the third month in a row in July, marking an unprecedented achievement in border security.
In July 2025, CBP recorded a total of 24,628 nationwide encounters, including 6,177 apprehensions by Border Patrol agents. This represents a 90 percent decrease compared to the same month in 2024 and the lowest number of illegal crossings ever documented in a single month.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem celebrated the milestone, stating, “History made, again. The numbers don’t lie—this is the most secure the border has ever been. President Donald J. Trump didn’t just manage the crisis—he obliterated it.”
Alongside border enforcement, CBP reported a significant increase in drug interdictions during July. The agency seized 968 pounds of fentanyl, a 30 percent rise from June. Heroin seizures increased by 86 percent, and marijuana seizures rose by 32 percent.
CBP also reported strong economic enforcement activity. In July, the agency processed $307 billion in imports and identified $30.4 billion in duties owed. Since January 2025, CBP has collected $140.8 billion in tariffs, taxes, and fees.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, South Sudanese officials, the U.S. State Department.
📍WHEN & WHERE: Discussions are ongoing, with no specific dates for implementation or visits confirmed as of yet. Talks involve Israel and South Sudan.
💬KEY QUOTE: “South Sudan should not become a dumping ground for people,” complained Edmund Yakani, a South Sudanese civil society leader.
🎯IMPACT: The proposal could, if implemented, pave the way for Gaza’s annexation to Israel proper, prompting backlash from many world governments.
IN FULL
Israel is reportedly in talks with South Sudan about the possible resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza, according to six sources familiar with the discussions. The move is part of Israel’s broader strategy to encourage emigration from the Gaza Strip, which Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas has heavily degraded.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed a desire to relocate Gaza’s population, framing this as “voluntary migration.” Similar resettlement proposals have reportedly been discussed with other African nations. However, Palestinians and “human rights” groups have strongly opposed such plans, characterizing them as forced expulsions.
For South Sudan, a country still recovering from years of civil war and famine, the proposal might be seen as a chance to deepen diplomatic ties with Israel and possibly improve its standing with the United States. Still, the idea has drawn criticism from within the country, with South Sudanese civil society leader Edmund Yakani complaining, “South Sudan should not become a dumping ground for people,” and warning that it could provoke tensions given the country’s history with the region’s Muslim and Arab populations.
The U.S. State Department has declined to comment on the matter. However, Egypt has expressed clear opposition to any resettlement of Palestinians outside Gaza. Egyptian officials have reportedly urged South Sudan not to accept Palestinian refugees, citing concerns that such a move could trigger a wider refugee crisis also affecting Egypt.
Israel is also believed to have approached other nations, such as North Sudan and Somalia, though the status of those discussions is currently unknown.

💬KEY QUOTE: “This act could enable the government to seize ethnic minority Afrikaners’ agricultural property without compensation.” – U.S. State Department Report, referring to legislation authorizing land expropriation without compensation.
🎯IMPACT: The findings raise international scrutiny over South Africa’s government policies and the treatment of Afrikaner farmers.
IN FULL
The U.S. State Department’s annual human rights report has highlighted a significant deterioration in conditions within South Africa, particularly focusing on extrajudicial killings and the repression of racial minorities, including white Afrikaner farmers. The findings were released as part of the 2025 report on Tuesday.
The report cited instances where South African police were involved in shootings resulting in the deaths of suspects. For example, in April, at least 40 criminal suspects were killed in shootouts, and in September, six suspects wanted for homicide and extortion were shot by Durban police. Watchdog groups have pointed to deaths in custody often stemming from abuse, neglect, or lack of medical care.
Additionally, the report highlighted the ongoing violence against Afrikaner farmers, referencing data from Agence France-Presse that recorded 447 murders on farms and smallholdings between October 2023 and September 2024. It criticized the extremist political party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for inciting attacks on Afrikaner farmers, including the revival of the controversial song “Kill the Boer [Farmer]” at rallies.
The Expropriation Bill of 2024 was also criticized, as it allows the government to seize land without compensation. The report warned that such measures could disproportionately target Afrikaner farmers, exacerbating violence and dismantling opportunities in employment, education, and business for the ethnic minority.
President Donald J. Trump, who met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in May, has been outspoken on the issue, saying that white Afrikaner farmers are being targeted and forced off their land.

💬KEY QUOTE: “By focusing on Americanism—the people, principles, and progress that define our nation—we can work together to renew the Smithsonian’s role as the world’s leading museum institution.” — Trump White House
🎯IMPACT: The review aims to restore public confidence in the Smithsonian’s role as a trusted institution and align its exhibitions with the values of unity and American progress.
IN FULL
The Trump White House has announced a comprehensive internal review of selected Smithsonian museums and exhibitions, aiming to ensure alignment with Executive Order 14253, titled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.” This directive seeks to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive narratives, and restore confidence in the Smithsonian as a trusted cultural institution.
The letter, addressed to Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III, outlined a detailed plan for the review process. “As we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our Nation’s founding, it is more important than ever that our national museums reflect the unity, progress, and enduring values that define the American story,” the letter states, emphasizing that the review will focus on public-facing content, curatorial processes, exhibition planning, narrative standards, and the use of collections.
The process will begin with museums submitting requested materials, including exhibition plans, educational content, and internal guidelines, within 30 days. On-site visits and interviews with curators and senior staff will follow, aiming to better understand the goals driving current and future exhibitions. The review will also evaluate 250th Anniversary programming and ensure coordination with the White House Salute to America 250 Task Force.
By the 120-day mark, museums are expected to implement necessary content corrections, replacing divisive or ideologically driven woke language with unifying and historically accurate descriptions. A final report, including museum-specific assessments and recommendations, is expected to be completed by early 2026.
“We view this process as a collaborative and forward-looking opportunity—one that empowers museum staff to embrace a revitalized curatorial vision rooted in the strength, breadth, and achievements of the American story,” the Trump White House letter says, adding: “By focusing on Americanism—the people, principles, and progress that define our nation—we can work together to renew the Smithsonian’s role as the world’s leading museum institution.”

📍WHEN & WHERE: Between July 5, 2024, and August 11, 2024, across the English Channel.
💬KEY QUOTE: “As I predicted 5 years ago, unless we deport illegal migrants the invasion will be huge. 50,000 since our weak Prime Minister took office and there is no sign of it stopping.” – Reform Party leader Nigel Farage
🎯IMPACT: The milestone highlights ongoing challenges in addressing illegal immigration and the political difficulties faced by the government.
IN FULL
Over 50,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats since Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party returned to power last year, according to figures from the British Home Office—roughly equivalent to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). On August 11 alone, 474 migrants made the illegal journey across the Channel from France, bringing the total since Labour’s July 2024 general election win to 50,271. This figure is 13,925 higher than the total recorded over the same period before Labour regained office.
Responding to the milestone, Baroness Smith, a Labour minister in the Home Office, said the number represented “an unacceptable number of people” but claimed that the government was making progress. “People-smuggling gangs have become increasingly influential in recent years, exploiting vulnerable people and profiting from their desperation,” Smith said.
The surge in small boat arrivals has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp called the situation “the worst illegal immigration crisis in our history” and accused the government of failing to control the border. “This is a taxpayer-funded ferry service for the people-smuggling trade. Every illegal immigrant should be removed immediately upon arrival,” he said.
However, the Channel crossings began when Philp’s Conservative (Tory) Party was in office and grew progressively worse, with successive Conservative prime ministers showing no signs of making progress on the issue.
“As I predicted 5 years ago, unless we deport illegal migrants the invasion will be huge,” commented Reform Party leader Nigel Farage, who played a large part in exposing the Channel crisis and exposing the role of the French and British authorities in facilitating the crossings. “50,000 since our weak Prime Minister took office and there is no sign of it stopping,” he lamented.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Beto told me ‘to come and take,’ so I did and beat him in court. Now, he still thinks he’s above the law, so I’m working to put him behind bars.” – Ken Paxton
🎯IMPACT: The restraining order halts O’Rourke’s fundraising efforts for Democrat lawmakers who fled Texas to deny the state legislature a quorum, and Paxton is pursuing further legal consequences.
IN FULL
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) has announced his office is taking legal action against former Democratic Congressman and perennial failed candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, accusing him of violating a temporary restraining order that prohibits fundraising for Democrats who fled the state during the legislature’s special session for redistricting to deny it a quorum. Paxton declared that O’Rourke’s actions constitute a contemptuous and “blatant violation” of the court order.
The restraining order, granted by a Tarrant County District Judge on Friday, came after Paxton sued O’Rourke and his organization, Powered by People. The lawsuit alleges that O’Rourke engaged in a “misleading financial-influence scheme” to support Democrat legislators who broke quorum in protest of Republican redistricting efforts. The judge’s order blocked O’Rourke and Powered by People from further fundraising activities.
In a statement, Paxton remarked, “Robert Francis [O’Rourke] flagrantly and knowingly violated the court order I secured that prevents him from raising funds and distributing any more Beto Bribes. He’s about to find out that running your mouth and ignoring the rule of law has consequences in Texas. It’s time to lock him up.”
O’Rourke, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and in former President Joe Biden’s cabinet, has become a well-known figure in Texas politics, mostly due to a series of humiliating statewide election defeats. He lost a challenge against Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in 2018 and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) in 2022 and also failed in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
Paxton emphasized the significance of the legal action in a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “I just defeated Beto O’Rourke in court. We secured a major victory stopping runaway Democrats from taking ‘Beto Bribes’ and preventing deceptive fundraising.”

The Trump White House announced that the federalized Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) made 23 arrests Monday evening, the first night the city’s police force has been under federal government control. While the average number of daily arrests in the nation’s capital tends to fluctuate significantly, the 23 arrests on Monday evening appear to be on the higher end of the daily average despite occurring over less than a 12-hour period.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, those arrested face charges including: homicide, firearms offenses, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, fare evasion, lewd acts, stalking, possession of a high-capacity magazine, operating a vehicle without a permit, Driving Under the Influence (DUI), and reckless driving. The crime crackdown comes as Washington, D.C., continues to see homicide rates outpace many other major U.S. cities, including New York City. Additionally, residents in the capital have faced a continued spree of carjackings, which have often resulted in the death or injury of the victim.
Karoline Leavitt highlights the 23 arrests made last night alone following Trump’s takeover of the DC police.
“These arrests consisted of homicide, firearms, possession with intent to distribute, etc.” pic.twitter.com/bC2kcw1cC2
“Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs, bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youths, drugged-out maniacs, and homeless people. And we’re not going to let it happen anymore,” President Donald J. Trump declared on Monday morning at a press conference announcing the MPD’s federalization. He added: “Every American has a constitutional right to be able to access and petition their government in safety. And countless government officials and employees, likewise, have the right to carry out their jobs in peace without being shot.”
While the corporate media has attempted to claim that crime is either already falling or is not even a problem in Washington, D.C., the city’s crime statistics have been called into question. For instance, in July, the MPD confirmed that Michael Pulliam, a Washington, D.C. police commander, is under investigation for allegedly doctoring crime statistics.
The investigation began after the Fraternal Order of Police complained that the department was deliberately falsifying crime data.

💬KEY QUOTE: “This prosecution is a culmination of years of hard work doggedly pursuing Aimee Betro across countries and borders while she remained relentless in her bid to escape justice,” said Prosecutor Hannah Sidaway.
🎯IMPACT: Betro was convicted on multiple charges, including conspiracy to murder, and awaits sentencing. Nazir and Aslam have already been imprisoned.
IN FULL
Aimee Betro, a 45-year-old woman from the United States, has been convicted in the United Kingdom for her involvement in a murder conspiracy linked to a family feud in Birmingham, which hosts a large Muslim population. She was flown into the country by Mohammed Aslam and his son, Mohammed Nabil Nazir, who orchestrated the plot to murder Sikander Ali in retaliation for an earlier clash.
The attempted hit took place in September 2019. Betro, wearing a niqab to conceal her identity, attempted to assassinate Ali outside his home. However, the firearm malfunctioned, and she was unable to carry out the killing. Later that same day, she returned and opened fire on his family home, shooting three times into the house, but it was empty at the time.
After the failed attack, Betro fled the country. Authorities later extradited her from Armenia to face charges in England. Prosecutor Hannah Sidaway said her trial was “a culmination of years of hard work doggedly pursuing Aimee Betro across countries and borders while she remained relentless in her bid to escape justice.”
During her trial, prosecutors presented damning evidence linking Betro to the shooting, but she denied all charges, claiming her trip to England was solely to attend a birthday party and that she met Nazir on a dating app.
The jury found Betro guilty of conspiracy to murder, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and illegal importation of ammunition. Nazir and Aslam had previously been convicted for their involvement, receiving sentences of 32 years and 10 years, respectively. Betro faces a potential life sentence.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Lawsuits were filed recently in Illinois and California after Democrats fled Texas during a special session.
🎯IMPACT: If Illinois and California courts refuse to enforce the warrants, the matter could escalate to the U.S. Supreme Court.
IN FULL
The Texas House of Representatives has filed arrest warrants for 56 Texas Democrat lawmakers currently hiding in Illinois and California. They left the state to prevent voting on a redistricting plan during a special session. Each of the lawsuits asks courts in Democrat-controlled California and Illinois to domesticate warrants under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution, enabling the absent lawmakers to be detained and returned to Texas.
However, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) has already declared that his state will not comply, insisting that Illinois is not obligated to honor the warrants unless a federal crime has been committed. He stated, “There is literally no federal law applicable to this situation. None.” It is suspected that California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) will likewise ignore the warrants.
The situation could set up a major showdown before the U.S. Supreme Court if Illinois and California continue to refuse to enforce the Texas warrants. Notably, the U.S. Constitution’s Full Faith and Credit Clause mandates states to recognize and enforce public acts and judicial proceedings from other states. Compounding the situation is the reported involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in tracking down and possibly arresting the missing Texas Democrats—a factor that could expedite any federal court challenge.
The lawsuits argue that Illinois and California must treat Texas’s Quorum Warrants as their own civil orders. They cite federal statute 28 U.S.C. § 1738, which codifies the Full Faith and Credit Clause and the Judicial Comity doctrine. Precedent from a 2016 U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Full Faith and Credit Clause supports Texas’s position, requiring state courts to enforce judgments from other states.
Courts in Illinois and California have yet to schedule hearings on the matter.

🎯IMPACT: Israel has strongly opposed the move, warning it rewards terrorism, while Australia’s opposition cautions it could harm relations with the U.S.
IN FULL
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Monday that Australia will officially recognize a Palestinian state during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September. The decision has drawn sharp criticism from Israel, which has labeled the move as a reward for terrorism.
“A two-state solution remains the best hope for ending the violence in the Middle East and alleviating the suffering in Gaza,” Albanese said during a press conference in the Australian capital of Canberra. The announcement aligns Australia with other Western nations such as France, Canada, and the United Kingdom, which have also pledged recognition of a Palestinian state at the summit.
Israeli Ambassador to Australia Amir Maimon quickly condemned the move, stating, “We reject this recognition.” Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong defended the decision, arguing that recognition was a matter of “when, not if,” and warning that “there is a risk there will be no Palestine left to recognize” without prompt action.
The decision has also sparked backlash from Australia’s opposition Liberal Party, which leans towards the center-right, with leader Sussan Ley warning that it risks damaging the close relationship between Australia and the U.S. “Despite the Prime Minister’s remarks, the reality is that this recognition comes while hostages are still held in Gaza and Hamas remains in power,” Ley said.
The Trump administration has previously voiced opposition to France’s stated intention to recognize Palestinian statehood.
