So-called “Conservative” Member of Parliament, Crispin Blunt, confirmed on Wednesday his arrest in connection to a rape allegation. The MP for Reigate issued a public statement disclosing that he had been interviewed twice by police regarding the incident. He stated that his initial interaction with the authorities on this matter was due to concerns of extortion.

Blunt, working in close conjunction with the Surrey Police for the ongoing investigation, assured his cooperation throughout. The MP emphasized his confidence in the outcome, expressing his belief that he would not face formal charges in regard to the allegations levelled against him.

The exact details of the incident in question have not been revealed, nor has the identity of the individual levelling the accusation. Police have not issued a formal statement. Blunt, a prominent figure in British politics, continues to maintain his innocence and awaits the conclusion of the investigation.

Blunt is best known for coming out as gay in 2010 and since being a huge advocate for LGBT causes. He is vociferously pro Palestinian and anti-Israel.
