Elon Musk has announced that his company, X Corp, will initiate a “thermonuclear lawsuit” against Media Matters for America, a Marxist news website, accusing the Soros-backed group of undermining freedom of speech and deceiving advertisers.
In a statement attached to a post on X, Musk contends: “This week, Media Matters for America posted a story that completely misrepresented the real user experience on X, in another attempt to undermine freedom of speech and mislead advertisers.”
This legal dispute arises amid earlier tensions between Musk and the Anti-Defamation League.
According to the document, titled “Stand with X to protect free speech,” Media Matters allegedly manipulated public perception and advertisers by creating an alternate account on X, curating content that intentionally misrepresented the platform’s user experience. The document accuses Media Matters of forcing a scenario that led to an unusually high number of ads being served to the dummy account, misleading advertisers about the real frequency of ad placements.
Accusations towards Media Matters stem from its known far-left stance, with founder David Brock stating in 2004 that he created the organization to counter what he laughably claimed was a right-leaning bias in media.
Recent articles published by Media Matters include lists of companies pulling ads from X and critiques of ads being placed beside content associated with white nationalism. Amid these allegations, X Corp pledges to uphold public rights to free expression, regardless of any potential impact on company profits. As the situation evolves, further updates are anticipated.
