Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas officially declared his endorsement for former President Donald Trump on Sunday. The announcement was made at the South Texas International Airport in Edinburg, following Trump’s visit with approximately 200 service members inside the airport’s hanger, including National Guardsmen and members of the Texas Department of Public Safety, where he served Thanksgiving lunch and conversed with personnel. Addressing those gathered outside the hanger, Abbott said, “We need a president who’s going to secure the border…restore law and order…restore world peace…and we need Donald J. Trump back as our president.”
Abbott applauded Trump’s five initiatives for border security during his initial term. These included the “Remain in Mexico” policy, the enforcement of Title 42, the cessation of “Catch and Release” protocols, construction of the southern border wall, and a focus on promoting only legal immigration. Abbott emphasized the significant decline in illegal border crossings during Trump’s tenure, saying “…If you go back to four years ago, we had the lowest illegal border crossings…in something like thirty years.”
Gov. Abbott further vocalized his support via X, stating, “Now more than ever, America needs a President who will secure the border and prioritize national security.”
