Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), expressed his belief on Sunday that the public, including his own party, is not in favor of “blanket abortion bans”, as he conversed with Jake Tapper on CNN. Vance voiced his intention to protect as many unborn babies as possible, emphasizing that exceptions must be provided in abortion laws, specifically for situations such as endangerment to the mother’s life or cases of rape. According to Vance, such exceptions are a “basic necessity.”
Expounding further, Vance warned that if Republicans are viewed as attempting to infringe on people’s rights rather than making childbirth easier, it could lead to the party’s downfall. According to the Ohio senator, he believes that the GOP should transform into a party that prioritizes the family to regain the trust and support of the American people.
Vance further illustrated his stance by discussing the financial burden families face when having a child, stating, “I have been shocked by you go to the hospital, you have a baby, you get a $20,000 unexpected bill. What does that look like for a middle-class family that is trying to figure out how to pay the mortgage?” He continued to criticize the difficulty that many families experience when trying to afford family life in America.
