Almost a fifth of Americans believe singer Taylor Swift “is part of a covert government effort to help Joe Biden win the presidential election,” according to polling by Monmouth University.
Seventy-one percent of poll respondents who said Swift is involved in an election psyop (psychological operation) said they were Republican or Republican-leaning, and 83 percent said they would likely vote for Donald Trump — almost certain to be the Republican candidate — in November.
“The supposed Taylor Swift PsyOp conspiracy has legs among a decent number of Trump supporters. Even many who hadn’t heard about it before we polled them accept the idea as credible,” complained Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
He was referring to the fact that, of those poll respondents who said they believed Swift was involved in a conspiracy to reelect Joe Biden, 42 percent had never heard of it before the idea was put to them by Monmouth.
In 2016, Swift presented herself as apolitical — giving rise to the infamous “Taylor Swift’s silence is deafening” meme — but she went all in for Biden in 2020, posting pictures of herself with Biden-branded cookies on social media.
Policies Biden has supported have not always benefited the singer, however, with bail reform policies allowing a stalker to return to her New York townhouse immediately after leaving court earlier this year.
Her already high profile was elevated further at this year’s Super Bowl due to her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce.
