An overwhelming 70 percent of New Yorkers believe Joe Biden, 81, is unfit for another presidential term — a significantly worse result than for Donald Trump, despite the Empire State’s longstanding Democrat-leaning. Biden’s results have worsened from his already poor results in September, when 62 percent of New Yorkers said he was unfit.
Only 23 percent of poll respondents said Biden is fit for office while Trump is not, while 32 percent said both candidates are unfit. A plurality of 35 percent said Trump is suitable for office while Biden is not. Notably, the Democrat leads the America First leader by only ten points in New York, which is historically underwhelming.
Trump also enjoys much greater enthusiasm among his base in the Empire State than Biden. Sixty-one percent of New York Republicans want Trump as their candidate, while fewer than half of Democrats — 48 percent — want Biden.
Siena pollster Steven Greenberg stressed the result should be considered in light of “just how ‘blue’ New York is.”
“Democrats have a 27-point enrollment advantage over Republicans, Biden beat Trump by 23 points in 2020, and no Republican presidential candidate has carried the state since Ronald Reagan in 1984, 40 years ago,” he explained.
New York Young Republican Club leader Gavin Wax has set an ambitious goal of flipping New York in November.
