Defense attorneys for David Shafer, one of former President Donald Trump’s co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case, say they have a new witness to testify that Fulton County District Attorney and special prosecutor Nathan Wade perjured themselves regarding the start of their romantic relationship. In a filing on Monday, Shafer’s attorneys asked Judge Scott McAfee to reopen evidence to include testimony from Cindi Lee Yeager, a deputy district attorney in a neighboring county.
According to the filing, Yeager is prepared to testify that Wade’s divorce lawyer, Terrence Bradley, told her that the romantic relationship between Willis and Wade began in 2019. Defense lawyers for former President Trump and his fellow co-defendants have moved to disqualify Willis and Wade from the RICO case, alleging the romantic relationship between them resulted in the improper hiring of Wade, prosecutorial misconduct, and the misuse of public money.
Yeager states in the filing that: “Mr. Wade had definitively begun a romantic relationship with Ms. Willis during the time that Ms. Willis was running for district attorney in 2019 through 2020.” Additionally, Yeager says she overheard a phone call in late 2023 between Willis and Terrence Bradley after the press began reporting on Wade’s lucrative salary. “They are coming after us,” Willis is alleged to have said, according to Yeager’s account of events, with Willis continuing: “You don’t need to talk to them about anything about us.”
Late last month, Bradley testified during the disqualification hearing that he had not interacted much with Willis. “My interaction with Ms. Willis was never where I would pick up the phone and talk to her,” Bradley told Judge McAfee. Last Friday, attorneys for both sides gave their closing arguments. Judge Scott McAfee is expected to rule regarding Willis and Wades’s disqualification within the next week.
