Newly declassified Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) documents suggest that senior congressional staffers working for Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), then a member of the House of Representatives, coordinated with intelligence officials and journalists to leak classified or sensitive information during the early months of the first Trump administration—actions some FBI sources believe were aimed at undermining the presidency.
The documents include FBI interview summaries (“302s”) with a whistleblower who served on the House Intelligence Committee for over a decade. According to the whistleblower, Schiff’s office formed a “Russia team” in early 2017 that selectively funneled intelligence to the press through intermediaries, including staff spouses who were reporters.
A February 13, 2017, meeting is cited as a key moment, where Schiff allegedly instructed aides to “leak classified derogatory information” about Trump to “friendly” journalists. Among the staffers named are Rheanne Wirkkala, Michael Bahar, Timothy Bergreen, and Patrick Boland.
The whistleblower told the FBI that Wirkkala “used her husband, a national security reporter, as a cut-out to provide classified information to journalists, including Ellen Nakashima at the Washington Post.” The documents note that several published stories closely mirrored intelligence that had only just been shared with the committee.
“Leaking the information was one way to topple the administration,” the source said, adding, “Everything is directed at Trump and trying to get him impeached.”
The revelations emerge from one of at least seven FBI leak investigations launched between 2017 and 2020. However, none led to criminal charges. The Justice Department’s Inspector General report, released alongside the FBI files, cites “insufficient evidence” and barriers such as the Speech or Debate Clause that shielded congressional communications from scrutiny.
While the IG acknowledged that some of the whistleblower’s claims could not be corroborated, the report also noted that certain digital records, such as deleted messages, spousal communications, and broader e-mail data, were not obtained during the probe.
Media figures mentioned in the documents include Nakashima, Michael Schmidt of the New York Times, and Shane Harris of the Washington Post, among others. The whistleblower alleged these journalists received “curated” leaks from intelligence staffers or their proxies.
Current FBI Director Kash Patel is reportedly reviewing whether to reopen several leak cases. The statute of limitations for unauthorized disclosure of classified information is 10 years, while espionage has no time limit.

Felker‑Martin, a man who poses as a woman, later defended his remarks in an essay published on Patreon. Felker‑Martin is no stranger to controversy. In 2022, he authored a horror novel depicting author J.K. Rowling burning to death, and in 2023, he made inflammatory public comments accusing several writers of being transphobic.
The fallout from Kirk’s assassination has extended far beyond Felker‑Martin. People in media, government, education, and academia have faced disciplinary actions or been terminated for making similar remarks about Kirk’s death. For instance, Matthew Dowd, a political analyst at MSNBC, was fired after he said on air that “hateful thoughts lead to hateful words which ultimately lead to hateful actions,” a statement the network deemed inappropriate and insensitive.
Karen Attiah, a former columnist at The Washington Post, confirmed she had been fired for posts on Bluesky that were labeled “gross misconduct” by the paper. A U.S. Secret Service agent was also suspended after allegedly posting celebratory messages about the killing, while a FEMA employee and an assistant dean at Middle Tennessee State University also lost their jobs following comments seen as condoning or mocking Kirk’s assassination.

The December 4 shooting took place in Midtown Manhattan as Thompson was heading to an investor conference. Authorities described the incident as a targeted, premeditated killing. Police arrested Mangione five days later in rural Pennsylvania, where he was reportedly found with a weapon matching the one used in the attack, a fake ID, and a notebook expressing anger toward the healthcare industry.
Mangione is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and had become increasingly isolated in the months leading up to the incident. Investigators have noted his online writings, which criticized the healthcare system and referenced chronic pain.
His legal defense is led by Karen Friedman Agnifilo, a former Manhattan prosecutor and current CNN legal analyst. She has called the dual prosecution strategy by state and federal authorities “confusing” and criticized the terrorism charges as overreach.

Comey was fired from her role as a Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutor in July following her lackluster prosecution of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, which resulted in the jury acquitting him of significant charges such as racketeering and sex trafficking.
The drawing of Judge Furman to preside over the case beggars belief, as the District Court judge is one of nearly 50 in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), but has now seen multiple high-profile cases involving the Trump administration land in his court. Juge Furman, as previously reported by The National Pulse, is the scion of a powerful Democrat-aligned family. His brother Jason Furman—a Harvard economist and professor—served as the chair of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) under former President Obama.
Meanwhile, the judge’s late mother, Gail Furman, was an early and major backer of the George Soros-linked Media Matters for America organization and its founder, David Brock. Additionally, the Furman Foundation served as a major donor to the Tides Center—an affiliate of the far-left Tides Foundation.
Already, Judge Furman has presided over the Mahmoud Khalildeportation case, blocking the Trump administration’s attempts to remove the pro-Hamas activist and foreign national from the country. Even more astounding is that Judge Furman oversaw the late 2018 case Department of Commerce v. New York, in which Furman barred the first Trump administration from adding a citizenship status question to 2020 Census forms.
Maurene Comey’s tenure at the DOJ saw her assigned several high-profile prosecutions, raising allegations of nepotism due to her father’s position and influence. As a DOJ attorney, Comey participated in the prosecutions of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and led the Combs prosecution.

Police have revealed that George Zinn, the 71-year-old who falsely confessed to the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University immediately after his shooting, has admitted he was attempting to create a distraction for the real gunman, believed to be Tyler Robinson, 22. Zinn has also been charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, after investigators found child pornography on his phone.
According to court documents, Zinn approached officers after the shooting and yelled, “I shot him, now shoot me.” He was taken into custody, where he continued to insist he was the shooter. However, investigators determined his confession was fabricated, and Zinn later acknowledged he wanted to be a “martyr.”
Once at the police station, Zinn requested a lawyer and admitted he expected to face consequences for his false statements. “I am already going to be in trouble for saying I shot him. Even if I did not,” he reportedly told officers.
Zinn has a history of disrupting political events and prior criminal charges. Past offenses include a 2013 bomb threat at the Salt Lake City marathon.
In addition to obstruction charges, the would-be “martyr” also faces child pornography charges, related to images of underage girls that investigators found on his phone. He reportedly confessed to being “sexually aroused” by children.
Robinson, alleged to be the real assassin, is set to make his first court appearance on Tuesday. He faces various charges up to and including capital murder, which carries the death penalty, potentially by firing squad.
