The National Pulse’s Editor-in-Chief, Raheem Kassam, broke down the implications of Nigel Farage’s return to British politics and his decision to run for Parliament during an appearance on The Charlie Kirk Show. On Monday, Farage announced he’d stand in the upcoming UK general election as the leader of the Reform UK Party, founded on the back of the Brexit Party. Farage, a populist firebrand, reversed course after stating a week ago that he would not stand for a parliamentary seat, citing a lack of time before the July 4th election.
“It means Nigel Farage is back, back from his number one-rated television show — nightly show — in the United Kingdom,” Kassam said when Kirk asked what Farage’s announcement means for the UK election. He continued: “It means he will run for a seat in Parliament. It means he will be the leader of the Reform Party, which is the successor to the Brexit Party.”
REFORM UK LEADER.
Addressing Reform UK, founded in 2018, Kassam explained that the party has supplanted the Conservatives as the politically conservative party. “It is kind of the Conservative Party, the soft-left Conservative Party’s worst nightmare,” he said, adding: “Because it means [Farage] is effectively now the leader of the opposition for anybody who actually considers themselves a populist, a nationalist, a conservative… anybody who doesn’t want an avowed, self-declared socialist in charge of the country.”
FUTURE PRIME MINISTER?
Kassam continued, telling Kirk that while Labour is poised to win control of Parliament in the July election, “It really sets Nigel up to level up from being a kind of protest vote back in 2015 and 2016 to being the leader of the most effective opposition party in British politics.” Pressed by Kirk if that means Nigel Farage could one day be Prime Minister of the UK, The National Pulse’s Editor-in-Chief replied: “It absolutely does.”
