Christopher Wray, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), was left floundering at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing last week when Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) pressed him on whether associates of sex traffickers Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell are still under investigation.
“We know that Jeffrey Epstein, who’s now deceased, and [Ghislaine] Maxwell, his associate who’s now in prison, were engaged in a conspiracy of sex trafficking with minors. So were others,” Sen. Kennedy said, asking: “What’s the FBI doing to investigate the other people that were involved in the sex trafficking rings?”
A visibly uncomfortable Wray said he was “not sure” if he could “confirm any specific individual” was still under investigation, but Kennedy continued to press him.
IS THERE STILL AN INVESTIGATION?
“Jeffrey Epstein had video surveillance in all of his homes and on his private island,” said Kennedy in reference to Little Saint James, visited by the likes of Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman before Epstein’s death.
“There have been articles after articles from witnesses who have said he videotaped sex acts with prominent people [and] young girls that he procured,” Kennedy recalled.
“The FBI and other federal agencies have raided [Epstein’s] houses. Do you have those tapes?” he demanded.
“I can’t discuss the specifics of our law-enforcement operations related to Mr. Epstein or Miss Maxwell,” Wray squirmed. He said the FBI “had” run an extensive investigation into the pair but insisted he could not say whether anyone else was under investigation.
“I just want to know if these prominent people are above the law and aren’t being investigated, or is the FBI investigating?” Kennedy pushed.
“Well, no one is above the law, number one,” Wray claimed. “As to whether specific people are being investigated, that’s not something, as I’m sure you can appreciate, I can engage on.”
“Is [the investigation] ongoing?” Kennedy asked again.
“I’m not sure there’s anything I can share with you on that,” Wray replied.
