Nevada’s Latino voters comprise nearly 20 percent of the crucial swing state’s electorate, making them an essential demographic for any presidential campaign wanting to win the state this November. For Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, however, concerns over the economy, illegal immigration, inflation, and Biden’s health have seen their support among the state’s Latino voters plummet.
Speaking with The Washington Post, Nevada‘s Latino and Hispanic voters aired their frustrations with Biden and the Democratic Party. They expressed frustration with the cost of everyday goods, job competition with illegal immigrants, public safety, and disillusionment that Biden will fulfill his campaign promises.
“I’m an immigrant, and I see that Democrats have been promising us immigration reform for years, and at the end of the day, we’re being ignored,” David Mungia, who works at a Nevada hospital, said in an interview. He added: “I want someone to earn my vote. Right now, I think Trump could offer us more than Biden.”
While some Democrats are looking to replace Biden with Harris at the top of the presidential ticket following the incumbent’s disastrous June 27 debate performance, she also struggles to appeal to Nevada’s Latinos. “I support us girls, and I would love to see a woman run the country, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen,” said Isabella Bello, a 21-year-old nursing student who revealed she’s voting for former President Donald J. Trump.
“She’s been on [Biden’s] side all this time and nothing was done on her side either as vice president. I think people want change for our country, and she isn’t that,” Bello added.
Recent polling has shown nearly two-thirds of Latinos support Trump’s plan to deport illegal aliens. Meanwhile, data shows that Latino and Hispanic voters overwhelmingly disapprove of Biden‘s handling of the U.S. border crisis.
