Hilton Hotels & Resorts—the U.S. subsidiary of Hilton Worldwide—quickly tried to distance itself from the property, responding late Monday that the “hotel is independently owned and operated, and these actions were not reflective of Hilton values.” By Tuesday, Hilton announced it was severing ties with the franchise, stating, “The independent hotel owner had assured us that they had fixed this problem and published a message confirming this. A recent video clearly raises concerns that they are not meeting our standards and values. As such, we are taking immediate action to remove this hotel from our systems.”

While Everpeak Hospitality initially said the hotel’s decision to bar federal agents from its premises was “inconsistent” with company policies, and pledged to reach out to those impacted by the issue to reach a resolution, a video posted on Tuesday to social media by independent journalist Nick Sortor appeared to show hotel employees still enforcing the ban on DHS agents as of 10:50 PM on Monday.

“Hilton’s operator, Everpeak, STRAIGHT UP LIED in their statement yesterday which said they were ‘in touch’ with DHS to accommodate impacted agents, and ‘do not discriminate against any individuals or agencies,'” Sortor wrote, adding: “NONE of that was true. Even the FRONT DESK manager said he had spoken with the owner shortly before I walked in around 10:50 PM, and confirmed the ANTI-DHS POLICY REMAINED IN EFFECT.”

Notably, the last time annual law enforcement fatalities were as low as 2025 was in 1943. Ninety-four police officers were killed in the line of duty that year. The NLEOMF data reveals that firearm-related officer deaths declined by 15 percent last year to 44 recorded fatalities, compared to 52 in 2024. This is the lowest rate in over a decade, according to NLEOMF’s historical records.

“I always like to see that firearm deaths are down. They are the tip of the spear for egregious acts,” said Bill Alexander, the NLEOMF’s chief executive officer. He added, “Even one officer fatality is too many, and our ultimate goal is to have none. But we’re heartened by any decrease in those numbers.”

Meanwhile, the report shows traffic-related deaths declined by 23 percent in 2025, and fatalities categorized as “other”—including medical emergencies, stabbings, drownings, and aviation accidents—dropped by 37 percent, from 52 to 33 year-to-year. This number includes 14 law enforcement officers who died from long-term medical complications stemming from the 9/11 terrorist attacks 25 years ago.

During a closed-door meeting on Monday with South Texas builders and construction executives, De La Cruz announced plans to meet with officials from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in response to local industry claims of a worker shortage due to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions at construction sites.

The Texas Republican lawmaker is proposing a plan that would create a new visa program, similar to the existing H-2A agricultural worker visa program, specifically for construction workers, as a means of addressing the alleged labor shortage. “At the end of the day, I want to represent South Texas, and I want to represent our community and make sure that we continue to be prosperous,” De La Cruz reportedly said at the meeting, hosted by the South Texas Builders Association.

Notably, De La Cruz’s visa program is being inserted into Representative Maria Salazar’s (R-FL) Dignity Act legislation, which would provide multiple paths to amnesty for illegal immigrants. Additionally, the bill revives former President Joe Biden’s “Labor Neighbors” program and George W. Bush’s 2001 “Any Willing Worker” plan, both of which open the door to an unlimited influx of cheap, immigrant workers.

Despite Rep. Salazar’s assertion that the Dignity Act is not an amnesty bill, provisions in the legislation would offer legal status to various immigrant populations, including migrants who have illegally voted in federal elections. House Republicans have largely declined to support Salazar’s proposal, although it has drawn significant backing from House Democrats.

Congressman Jim Baird (R-IN), 80, and his wife have been hospitalized following a car crash. Baird, who represents Indiana‘s 4th congressional district, is currently in stable condition and responsive, according to his son, Beau Baird, a state lawmaker in Indiana.

“Many of you have likely heard by now that Congressman Jim Baird’s vehicle was struck last night while he was driving back to Washington to continue his work for Hoosiers. My mom was with him at the time. I’m grateful to share that they are both safe, stable, and in good spirits,” Beau Baird wrote in a post on social media regarding the car accident and the condition of his father and mother. He added, “Anyone who knows my dad knows his determination runs deep, and he’s already joking about getting back to the House floor to vote, especially with margins this tight.”

The congressman’s son also revealed that the accident was a hit-and-run, stating, “Several people have asked whether this was politically motivated. At this time, there is no information to suggest that, and we sincerely hope that is not the case. Because this was a hit-and-run, law enforcement is actively investigating and trying to find the vehicle that struck them.”

Baird has served in Congress since 2019, representing a largely rural district with a significant agricultural industry presence. Prior to serving in Congress, he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018, and a Putnam County commissioner from 2006 to 2010.

President Donald J. Trump addressed the situation during remarks at the House Republican policy retreat, stating, “They’re going to be OK, but they had a pretty bad accident.” Trump also paid tribute to the late Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), who passed away on Monday.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) noted that Baird might be dealing with a spinal injury resulting from the crash. Trump’s authorization of a U.S. military operation last Saturday that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan dictator and accused narco-terrorist Nicolás Maduro. During a television interview on Monday, Fetterman noted that former President Joe Biden issued a $25 million reward for Maduro’s capture, questioning the bounty’s purpose if Democrats on Capitol Hill were not committed to any action beyond empty rhetoric.

“Democrats, years ago, wanted to eliminate him, and why have a bounty of $25 million if we didn’t want him gone? Why would you do these things if you weren’t willing to actually do something other than harsh language?” Fetterman said. “I’ve seen the speeches from—whether it’s Leader [Chuck] Schumer or… past tweets from President Biden, we all wanted this man gone, and now he is gone.”

“Democrats, we all used to describe him as a dictator or a tyrant or a terrible person, and it wasn’t less than a year ago [that] President Biden raised the bounty [to] $25 million, less than a year ago,” the Pennsylvania Democrat stressed.

In an opinion editorial published early Tuesday, Sen.
