Arctic Frost Scandal’s Judge Boasberg Again Threatens to Hold Trump Officials in Contempt.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Far-left Federal Judge James Boasberg, who played an integral role in allowing the scandalous overreach of Jack Smith’s investigation into President Donald J. Trump and his allies, is once again considering contempt of court charges against Trump administration officials.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Judge James Boasberg and the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ).

📍WHEN & WHERE: Boasberg announced his intention to push forward with his contempt investigation on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

🎯IMPACT: Boasberg is demanding to hear from whistleblower Erez Reuveni and the Trump Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Drew Ensign. The far-left federal judge said he would inform all parties in writing by Monday on how he wishes to proceed.

IN FULL

Far-left Federal Judge James Boasberg, who played an integral role in allowing the scandalous overreach of Jack Smith‘s investigation into President Donald J. Trump and his allies, is once again considering contempt of court charges against Trump administration officials. On Wednesday, Boasberg informed Trump administration attorneys that he intends to proceed to the fact-finding phase on whether to hold officials in contempt of court for violating his March 2025 order barring deportations to El Salvador.

Critically, Boasberg is demanding to hear from whistleblower Erez Reuveni and the Trump Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Drew Ensign. The far-left federal judge said he would inform all parties in writing by Monday on how he wishes to proceed.

This past August, a federal appeals court set aside a contempt order filed by Boasberg against Trump officials. However, a second ruling by a federal appeals court this past Friday cleared the way for Boasberg to pursue a new contempt investigation. Still, it stopped short of restoring his prior contempt ruling.

The National Pulse has reported extensively on Judge Boasberg’s excessively partisan behavior on the bench. Notably, Boasberg was revealed to have played a critical and deeply concerning role in the Arctic Frost scandal, which saw Biden government special counsel Jack Smith pursue a far-reaching investigation that appears to have been intended to prevent the Republican Party from fairly competing in the 2024 election on the congressional and presidential levels. Non-disclosure orders regarding Smith’s Arctic Frost targets were signed in 2023 by federal judges Boasberg and Beryl Howell, preventing those whose phone records were subpoenaed by Smith from knowing so.

Boasberg’s intimate involvement in the scandal has led Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) to introduce articles of impeachment against the federal judge. “Chief Judge Boasberg has compromised the impartiality of the judiciary and created a constitutional crisis. He is shamelessly weaponizing his power against his political opponents, including Republican members of Congress who are faithfully serving the American people within their jurisdiction,” Gill said regarding his impeachment resolution, adding: “I am proud to once again introduce articles of impeachment against Judge Boasberg to hold him accountable for his high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Trump Secures Return of American Citizen Detained in Saudi Arabia.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Saad Almadi, a 75-year-old dual Saudi-American citizen, is on his way back to the United States after being detained in Saudi Arabia in 2021 over social media posts critical of the country’s royal family.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The Saudi Arabian government, President Donald J. Trump, Saad Almadi, and Ibrahim Saad Almadi.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Our family is overjoyed that, after four long years, our father Saad Almadi, is finally on his way home to the United States. This day would not have been possible without President Donald Trump and the tireless efforts of his administration.” — Ibrahim Saad Almadi

🎯IMPACT: Under pressure from the Trump White House, the Saudis relented on Wednesday, allowing the 75-year-old dual citizen to board a plane and leave the country for the United States.

IN FULL

Saad Almadi, a 75-year-old dual Saudi-American citizen, is on his way back to the United States after being detained in Saudi Arabia in 2021 over social media posts critical of the country’s royal family. Almadi’s son, Ibrahim Saad Almadi, announced his father’s return on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, which was confirmed just moments after the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud (known as MBS), took the stage with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the 2025 U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, D.C.

“Our family is overjoyed that, after four long years, our father Saad Almadi is finally on his way home to the United States,” Ibrahim wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He continued: “This day would not have been possible without President Donald Trump and the tireless efforts of his administration.”

Notably, after his re-election to office in 2024, President Trump has overseen a rapprochement of relations with the Saudi government after the former Biden government de-emphasized the importance of relations between the two countries. The Saudis have played a critical role in brokering the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and have pledged significant investments in the United States under the Trump administration.

Ibrahim Saad Almadi went on to thank several Trump administration figures, as well as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), for their role in brokering his father’s return home. In 2021, Saad Almadi was detained and charged with cyber crimes while visiting family in Saudi Arabia. Instead of being formally imprisoned, the 75-year-old was hit with an exit ban and not allowed to leave the country, essentially becoming a quasi-prisoner of the kingdom. However, under pressure from the Trump White House, the Saudis relented on Wednesday, allowing the 75-year-old dual citizen to board a plane and leave the country for the United States.

Trump Pledges Foreign Workers Will be TEMPORARY, Doubles Down on ‘H1B is MAGA’ Rhetoric.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J. Trump claims that companies building major U.S. chip plants will require thousands of skilled foreign workers to keep projects operational, though he claims these foreign workers will only be temporary.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Donald Trump, foreign workers, and U.S. chip manufacturing companies.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the U.S.-Saudi Arabia Investment Forum in Washington, D.C.

💬KEY QUOTE: “We’re not going to be successful if we don’t allow people that invest billions of dollars in plants and equipment to bring a lot of their people from their country to get that plant open, operating, and working. I’m sorry.” – Donald Trump

🎯IMPACT: Trump’s comments will be controversial among his base. Notably, a large swath of the MAGA movement opposes the H-1B visa program at scale and the use of cheap foreign labor. However, the administration claims that these workers will only be in the U.S. to train Americans and will do so on a temporary basis.

IN FULL

President Donald J. Trump stated on Wednesday that companies constructing major U.S. chip plants will need to bring in “thousands” of foreign workers to ensure the projects remain operational, although he claimed these jobs will only be temporary, with the foreign workers intended to train American workers. He made these remarks during the U.S.-Saudi Arabia Investment Forum held in Washington, D.C.

“They just don’t understand,” Trump said of his own MAGA political base, which has been critical of H-1B visas and American corporate reliance on cheap foreign labor. The President argued, “People have to be taught this is something they’ve never done. But we’re not going to be successful if we don’t allow people that invest billions of dollars in plants and equipment to bring a lot of their people from their country to get that plant open, operating, and working. I’m sorry.”

Trump argued that welcoming such workers, particularly those on H1-B visas, is essential for the success of these ventures. He described the move as “MAGA,” saying that these jobs cannot be sourced from “the unemployment line.” He did acknowledge the political backlash he is likely to receive, however, saying: “This makes my poll numbers go down with my base, but my poll numbers go up with smart people.”

This is not the first time that Trump has riled his own political base on the topic of foreign workers. Shortly after his re-election in 2024, Trump embraced the pro-H-1B rhetoric of billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk. This sparked a fraught digital debate over Christmas and into the New Year. In January 2025, Trump also shared pro-H-1B talking points from the far-left Boston Globe‘s editorial board.

Argentine Commission Alleges President Milei Was Involved in Crypto Scam.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A congressional commission in Argentina accused President Javier Milei of involvement in a cryptocurrency fraud.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Javier Milei, his sister Karina Milei, and investors in the $LIBRA cryptocurrency.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The report was published on November 19, 2025, in Argentina.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The world wants to invest in Argentina. $LIBRA.” – Javier Milei

🎯IMPACT: Hundreds of millions of dollars were lost by investors, and legal complaints have been filed.

IN FULL

An Argentine congressional panel has issued a new report accusing President Javier Milei of engaging in a cryptocurrency scam after promoting $LIBRA, which resulted in a significant loss for investors. Notably, the investigation names both President Milei and his sister, Karina Milei.

Released by the Chamber of Deputies—which is controlled by parties in opposition to Milei’s government—the report states that “the facts analyzed would be compatible with an alleged fraud” and that “political responsibility” rests with Milei and his sister. Notably, the crash in $LIBRA’s value occurred in February of this year, with observers describing it as a rug pull scam that resulted in $251 million in losses.

In the lead-up to $LIBRA’s launch, there were rumors of bribes and payouts involving those close to Milei himself. Individuals who have been accused of perpetrating rug-pull crypto schemes in the past were involved, notably Hayden Davis, an American cryptocurrency marketer.

President Milei maintains that he was unaware of any of the $LIBRA project details and that he was relatively uninvolved. He did promote the cryptocurrency on X (formerly Twitter), authoring a post stating: “The world wants to invest in Argentina. $LIBRA.”

The cryptocurrency is currently the subject of legal proceedings and the Chamber of Deputies report has been sent to prosecutors. The scandal was part of a broader series of corruption allegations that rocked Argentina earlier this year and set off a currency crisis, which required the United States Treasury Department to step in and provide stability through a monetary bailout.

Kennedy Center Will Celebrate Birth of Christ This Christmas Under Trump, Grenell.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The Kennedy Center will celebrate the Nativity and host its first-ever Christmas tree and lighting ceremony this year, marking a new tradition for the national cultural landmark under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Richard “Ric” Grenell.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The Kennedy Center, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Roma Daravi, and Richard Grenell.

📍WHEN & WHERE: December 17, 2023, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The Kennedy Center’s inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting is a milestone for America’s cultural center.” – Roma Daravi

🎯IMPACT: Establishes a new holiday tradition at a key cultural institution while incorporating faith-focused Christmas celebrations.

IN FULL

The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., will host its very first Christmas tree lighting ceremony in December—a historic new tradition for the nation’s performing arts center—as well as a Christmas concert with a live nativity and other programming centered on the birth of Jesus Christ. “We are proud to present a meaningful, faith-filled experience for families to immerse themselves in the Christmas story at America’s cultural center,” said Roma Daravi, the Kennedy Center’s vice president of public relations.

Kennedy Center President Richard “Ric” Grenell has highlighted the renewed emphasis on the religious meaning of Christmas under the restored Trump administration. “How crazy is it to think that we’re going to celebrate Christ at Christmas with a big traditional production, to celebrate what we are all celebrating in the world during Christmastime, which is the birth of Christ?” he said earlier this year.

The centerpiece of the tree-lighting ceremony will be an 18-foot red spruce donated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service and cut from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in southern Virginia. “The Kennedy Center’s inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting is a milestone for America’s cultural center, one of Washington’s premier holiday attractions,” said Daravi. “We are grateful to partner with the… Department of Agriculture Forest Service to showcase a beautiful red spruce from the highest peaks of the Southern Appalachians and create new traditions for families and visitors this holiday season.”

The ceremony will include Christmas entertainment, remarks from the Kennedy Center’s leadership, and special guest appearances. The event signals a deliberate shift toward more traditional and faith-based holiday programming, following past criticism of politically charged performances at the venue under the Biden-Harris regime.

Democrat Stacey Plaskett Defends Texts With Epstein.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: House Delegate Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) was found to have exchanged text messages with Jeffrey Epstein during a 2018 congressional hearing involving President Donald J. Trump.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Stacey Plaskett, Jeffrey Epstein, Michael Cohen, and Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD).

📍WHEN & WHERE: The text exchanges occurred in 2019 during a live committee hearing where Michael Cohen testified against President Trump.

💬KEY QUOTE: “I got a text from Jeffrey Epstein, who at the time was my constituent, who was not public knowledge at that time [sic], that he was under federal investigation.” – Stacey Plaskett

🎯IMPACT: A Republican-led vote to censure Plaskett failed, leaving her committee assignments intact despite the controversy.

IN FULL

House Delegate Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) is attempting to explain away her text message exchange with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein during a 2019 congressional hearing with disgraced former Trump Organization attorney Michael Cohen. The exchange shows Plaskett having not just a friendly demeanor with Epstein—who had already been convicted of being a sex offender—but also seeking his advice on Trump Organization figures’ testimony and how she should press Cohen.

Plaskett, who represents the U.S. Virgin Islands territory, where Epstein’s Little Saint James island—dubbed “Pedo Island”—is located, defended the text exchange, claiming she was unaware of Epstein’s criminal sexual history or that he was under federal investigation for sex trafficking. Further, Plaskett argued on the House floor on Tuesday that she had received many texts because of her shouting down Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) over remarks he made toward the late Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), who was chairing the February 2019 hearing.

“I got a text from Jeffrey Epstein, who at the time was my constituent, who was not public knowledge at that time, that he was under federal investigation,” Plaskett argued on Tuesday. Despite her assertion, Epstein was convicted in 2008 of being a sex offender after being caught soliciting sex from a minor. In 2018, the Miami Herald published a detailed investigation into Epstein in which the newspaper detailed at least 60 women who alleged the pedophile financier had abused them when they were minors.

During her defense of communicating with Epstein, Plaskett did not reveal how either she or Epstein had obtained each other’s phone numbers, nor whether she had ever met with Epstein in person. Notably, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) is also under fire for defending Plaskett’s communications with Epstein. “They want to give them another headline! Which is, that they’ve arraigned a Democratic member for taking a phone call from her constituent, Jeffrey Epstein, in the middle of a hearing. And, of course, I don’t think there are any rules here against taking phone calls in a hearing,” Raskin said on Tuesday.

Farage’s Reform Party Scores Key Defections in London.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Two Westminster City Councillors defected from the Conservatives (Tories) to Nigel Farage’s Reform Party, with one joining the populist leader’s foreign policy team.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Councillors Laila Cunningham and Alan Mendoza, alongside Nigel Farage and Westminster Labour Council Leader Adam Hug.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Westminster, London, in recent days.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Britain today is in abject crisis. At home and abroad, our leaders seem determined to chart a course of national and international decline.” – Alan Mendoza

🎯IMPACT: Reform anticipates a “massive surge” in councillors, with predictions of gains in London boroughs and increased political competition.

IN FULL

Alan Mendoza, a Conservative (Tory) member of Westminster City Council in London and a co-founder of the Henry Jackson Society think tank, has defected to Nigel Farage’s Reform Party and will advise Farage on foreign policy and geopolitics. Mendoza stated, “Britain today is in abject crisis. At home and abroad, our leaders seem determined to chart a course of national and international decline.”

He added, “The British people deserve better than this. And in Reform UK we finally have a party who will put our interests first, and ensure that our tomorrow is better than our today.” Mendoza won his municipal government seat in the 2022 local elections and has served on Westminster’s audit and performance committee and budget scrutiny task group. Westminster Council runs a key London borough, centered around the Palace of Westminster, which is home to the Houses of Parliament.

Farage welcomed Mendoza, emphasizing his “intricate understanding of foreign policy and experience in global affairs” as an asset to his party. “I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to shape our policy platform in the months and years ahead,” he added.

Councillor Laila Cunningham also defected to Reform, citing frustration with the Conservatives, who governed Britain largely from the center-left from 2010 to mid-2024. “I am tired of defending failure,” Cunningham said, predicting a “massive surge” in Reform councillors in London at the upcoming municipal elections in May.

Trump Deports Dozens of Ukrainian Criminals, Kiev Says ‘A Use Will Be Found for Them.’

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Dozens of Ukrainian criminals have been deported by the Trump administration and returned to Ukraine via Poland.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service, and Ukrainian nationals.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The deportations were confirmed this week, with deportees reentering Ukraine through the Shehyni checkpoint on the Polish border.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Today, 50 citizens were returned from the United States through the Shehyni checkpoint on the border with Poland. They were documented with the appropriate papers confirming their Ukrainian citizenship or documents for their return.” – Andrii Demchenko, Ukrainian State Border Guard Service spokesman.

🎯IMPACT: The deportations underscore the Trump administration’s commitment to deporting foreign lawbreakers even if they come from conflict zones.

IN FULL

Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service has confirmed that 50 Ukrainian citizens deported from the United States have arrived back in the country through the Shehyni crossing on the border with Poland. Officials said the deportees carried either documents verifying their Ukrainian citizenship or other paperwork permitting their return.

The Ukrainian embassy in Washington, D.C., previously noted that an estimated 80 Ukrainian nationals had been issued final deportation orders due to violations of U.S. law. Notably, Ukraine has recently taken a more cooperative stance toward U.S. deportation efforts. The shift is believed to be linked to Kiev’s efforts to maintain U.S. support amid its ongoing war with Russia. One unnamed adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky was quoted as saying, “The U.S. can deport as many citizens as it wants and… a use will be found for them.”

Among those deported was 41-year-old Roman Surovtsev, who legally immigrated to the U.S. as a child but later served a prison sentence for burglary. His lawyers argue that he and others have been denied the opportunity to present claims of fear regarding their removal, claiming the process is “unlawful.”

Andrii Demchenko, spokesman for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, confirmed the group’s return, stating: “Today, 50 citizens were returned from the United States through the Shehyni checkpoint… They were documented with the appropriate papers confirming their Ukrainian citizenship or documents for their return.”

The removals come amid a sweeping expansion of U.S. immigration enforcement. Since the start of the year, U.S. authorities have carried out more than 515,000 deportations and are on pace to reach 600,000 by year’s end, which would set a new record. Analysts also report that the U.S. foreign-born population has fallen by an estimated 2.2 million, with both deportations and voluntary departures contributing to the decline.

Driving much of the acceleration is Border Czar Tom Homan, who has called for increasing daily arrests to 7,000. The administration has also moved to expand detention capacity and staffing, arguing that significantly greater resources are needed to sustain the current level of removals.

Trump Expected to Sign Bill Releasing Epstein Files Today.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J. Trump will sign legislation ordering the release of the remaining federal government files regarding deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA), House Republicans, House Democrats, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), the U.S. Senate, and Jeffrey Epstein.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The bill is expected to be signed on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

🎯IMPACT: The Department of Justice (DOJ) will be forced to release the remaining documents in its possession pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein.

IN FULL

President Donald J. Trump is expected to sign legislation ordering the release of the remaining federal government files regarding deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. This comes after a discharge petition was passed near-unanimously by the House of Representatives and adopted by the United States Senate through unanimous consent.

Notably, alterations to the legislation, pushed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and other Republican leaders in the lower chamber, were not adopted by the Senate. The upper chamber instead opted to adopt the legislation in a unanimous consent motion before it even reached the Senate floor. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) made a unanimous consent motion, meaning that the bill was effectively adopted as soon as it was transferred to the Senate and would be sent to the White House for President Donald J. Trump’s signature.

The National Pulse reported on Tuesday that House leaders were concerned over the lack of specific protections for victims’ identities and the lack of a prohibition on the release of Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM) in the legislation. Earlier on Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson held a press conference, urging his U.S. Senate colleagues to amend the legislation to ensure such protections were in place.

Additionally, Representative Clay Higgins (R-A) was the sole vote against the House discharge petition and legislation, arguing it recklessly “abandons 250 years of criminal justice procedure in America.” Higgins echoed the concerns raised by Speaker Johnson and other House leaders, stating: “As written, this bill reveals and injures thousands of innocent people—witnesses, people who provided alibis, family members, etc. If enacted in its current form, this type of broad reveal of criminal investigative files, released to a rabid media, will absolutely result in innocent people being hurt.”

Despite the pleas from Johnson, Higgins, and others, the Senate left the legislation unchanged. Due to its near-unanimous support, the bill is expected to be signed into law by President Trump on Wednesday.

Prince Harry’s U.S. Popularity Plummets to New Low.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Prince Harry’s U.S. popularity rating has dropped 14 points in 2025, reaching its lowest level according to YouGov Ratings. His wife Meghan’s popularity is even lower.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, King Charles III, Sophie Chandauka, and the Sentebale charity board.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Data collected in the U.S. in 2025.

🎯IMPACT: Harry’s popularity in the U.S. is at its lowest since 2020, while Meghan’s has shown signs of recovery.

IN FULL

YouGov polling in Q3 2025 shows Prince Harry’s U.S. net approval rating has fallen to +17, a 14-point drop since early in the year when it stood at +31. Only 38 percent of Americans say they like him, while 21 percent say they dislike him, his weakest recorded support since YouGov began tracking his popularity in October 2020. By contrast, Meghan Markle has rebounded somewhat: after an earlier 18-point crash this year, her net approval has now improved slightly to +15—although this is still far below her husband.

Harry’s recent public appearances add further context to his shifting profile. In September, he met with King Charles III in Britain, their first encounter since the king’s cancer diagnosis, amid reports of tension. A spokesman for Harry attacked “sources intent on sabotaging any reconciliation.”

He also stepped down from the board of Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana, following a dispute with Sophie Chandauka, who chairs it. Meanwhile, he continues his legal fight with the British government over securing police protection during visits to Britain, complaining, “I asked [the King] to step out of the way and let the experts do their jobs.”

On the media front, Harry and Meghan’s long-running production deal with Netflix is reportedly ending. Their reported $100 million contract, signed in 2020, will expire in September 2025, and sources say it will not be renewed. The decision appears tied to the weak performance of their recent shows, including Meghan’s With Love, Meghan, which failed to crack Netflix’s top 300 and was extensively mocked on social media, and Harry’s documentary Polo, which also drew modest viewership. According to insiders, “things have just run their course.”

In addition, Harry remains under scrutiny over his past drug use in the U.S., which he detailed in his 2023 memoir Spare. He admitted to using cocaine, cannabis, and psychedelics. Court documents released in a legal battle over his U.S. immigration status remain heavily redacted, and it is not clear whether he formally reported his drug use on his visa forms.

Chinese Astronauts Left Stranded Aboard Space Station.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Three Chinese astronauts are stranded in space after their spacecraft was used to return another crew to Earth due to damage caused by suspected space debris.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The Shenzhou-21 crew currently aboard China’s Tiangong space station and the returning Shenzhou-20 crew.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The Shenzhou-20 crew landed on Friday in the Gobi Desert after a delay caused by spacecraft damage, leaving the Shenzhou-21 crew without an immediate return option.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The path of human space exploration is not smooth. It’s filled with difficulties and challenges. But that is exactly why we choose to walk this path.” – Chen Dong, Shenzhou-20 commander

🎯IMPACT: The incident highlights safety concerns regarding space debris and leaves the current crew on Tiangong without a return vehicle in case of emergency.

IN FULL

A space capsule damaged by space debris has left three Chinese astronauts stranded aboard the Tiangong space station. The astronauts, part of the Shenzhou-21 mission—which includes a six-month rotation aboard the Chinese space station—currently have no means of returning to Earth after the prior mission’s Shenzhou-20 capsule was damaged.

The Shenzhou-20 spacecraft was damaged by suspected space debris, delaying their return by over a week. Instead of using the damaged spacecraft, the Shenzhou-20 crew returned on the Shenzhou-21 capsule, which had just brought their replacements to the station. This decision left the new crew without a dedicated return vehicle.

China’s Manned Space Agency (CMSA) stated that the Shenzhou-20 spacecraft “does not meet the requirements for the astronauts’ safe return and will remain in orbit to continue relevant experiments.” A new Shenzhou-22 spacecraft is expected to be launched, but no specific date has been announced.

Chen Dong, commander of the Shenzhou-20 mission, remarked after returning to Earth on Friday: “The path of human space exploration is not smooth. It’s filled with difficulties and challenges. But that is exactly why we choose to walk this path.” The Shenzhou-20 crew’s landing in the Gobi Desert marked the end of a record-breaking 204-day stay for astronauts aboard China’s space station.

The incident raises broader concerns about the vulnerability of spacecraft to space debris, an issue that has affected other missions, including one by NASA in 2021. The CMSA has not clarified whether the Shenzhou-20 damage will impact future missions.
