An attorney who represented two Boeing whistleblowers, both of whom died recently under suspicious circumstances, says that he is representing more than ten other whistleblowers who are determined to speak out about “serious” safety issues at the aerospace giant. Brian Knowles was the attorney for Joshua Dean and John Barnett, previously affiliated with Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems, who passed away due to a sudden illness and an alleged self-inflicted gunshot, respectively.
“Josh and John were not the only two aviation whistleblowers we were representing. We have more than ten others that we have been representing, and we’re hearing from other people coming forward as well,” Knowles said. According to Knowles, the whistleblowers are a mixture of current and former Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems employees.
“I think these folks now feel an even greater need to speak out and come forward,” said Knowles. “They were all raising serious quality and safety issues that they had reported internally and then ended up reporting to regulators…It is brave of them to come forward.”
Among those Knowles currently represents is Santiago Paredes, a former Spirit AeroSystems employee who this week alleged that he was pressured into downplaying issues identified during fuselage inspections.
Boeing has been plagued by several high-profile accidents involving its planes. A six-week audit by the Federal Aviation Administration earlier this year found dozens of quality control issues with Boeing’s production of its 737 Max aircraft. In April, another Boeing whistleblower, Sam Salehpour, testified before the U.S. Senate that it is only a matter of time before a Boeing aircraft is involved in a catastrophic disaster.
