Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has described Ukraine‘s victory over Russia as “impossible.” He also linked the ongoing conflict to the recent assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. During an address on Saturday, Radev expressed concerns about the war’s broad repercussions, indicating it has a substantial impact on global politics and elections, including those in Europe and the USA.
“Every day that this war continues is disastrous for Ukraine, Russia, and all of us,” Radev stated. “This inevitably affects all elections. We will choose in this and the next election between war and peace. Every citizen is obliged to understand this.”
Responding to queries about Fico’s assassination attempt, Radev highlighted the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. “It is unacceptable to present the continuation of the war and the impossible victory over Russia as the only possible solution,” he declared. He warned that voices advocating for peace should not be met with violence.
“The attempted assassination of a European prime minister by a radicalized fanatic, because of his support for peace, is indicative of this ingrained intolerance of dissent and hatred. Many politicians, parties and media have contributed to this with their portrayal of every different voice as pro-Russian, which is extremely unfair and leads to… negative consequences,” Radev said.
Radev stressed the inevitability of a Ukrainian defeat. “With weapons, without weapons – we are going to a similar outcome. We have to realize that. The difference will be thousands of human casualties and a devastated country for which recovery we will have to pay,” he said, adding that “it is inevitable.”
Recently, Russia has been capitalizing on a string of battlefield victories. The Russian military enjoys a significant advantage over Ukraine in both munitions and manpower. A leading expert warned recently that the “outlook for Ukraine is bleak.”
