Police shot a man wielding a pickaxe and Molotov cocktail on the Reeperbahn – a central entertainment district – at midday in Hamburg, Germany. The incident took place in the St. Pauli district, just before the European Championship match between the Netherlands and Poland, and close by to tens of thousands of fans.
Emerging from a bar on Silbersackstrasse, the assailant allegedly threatened police officers, who first attempted to subdue him with pepper spray. When that failed, they resorted to firearms, striking the attacker, who is seriously injured and receiving medical treatment.

The video above shows a white man believed to be in his 30s or 40s wielding a small pickaxe and what looks to be a Molotov cocktail, attempting to jump barricades towards the police.
Earlier, approximately 40,000 Dutch fans had gathered in St. Pauli for a celebratory march. The incident unfolded shortly after the march concluded.
“He continued to create a threatening situation,” said a police spokesperson, emphasizing the necessity of the intervention.
Investigations are ongoing, and police remain stationed in the area to ensure the safety of fans and residents.
