Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, formerly Twitter, has reportedly dismissed Joe Benarroch, her head of business operations and communications, as platform owner Elon Musk pushes for cost cuts and increased revenue. The hiring of Benarroch, a former colleague of Yaccarino at NBC, sparked controversy, as he had previously censored Donald Trump for the network.
Bennaroch, who has often preached the need to be “inclusive” and “elevate[e] diverse perspectives,” censored Trump ads focused on illegal immigration on NBC in 2018. He is in a same-sex marriage and moonlights as a children’s author, with the page for his book Rachel’s Dreams and Hats sharing a Hillary Clinton quote after she lost the 2016 election.
He is also a drag queen enthusiast who has taken his adopted daughter to drag shows.
Three sources confirmed Bennaroch’s firing to the Financial Times, but X did not respond to requests for comment on the executive team’s restructuring.
The newspaper claims there are tensions between Musk and Yaccarino, a World Economic Forum (WEF) executive who lobbied Musk to give corporate advertisers more influence over content moderation on the platform before he hired her.
