New data suggests a shocking number of Democrats have bought into the conspiracy theory that former President Donald J. Trump staged the July 13 assassination attempt against him. This conspiracy has been boosted by major left-wing media figures like MSNBC‘s Joy Reid.
According to the survey conducted by Morning Consult, one-third of Democrat respondents said they believe the assassination attempt was faked—despite incontrovertible evidence. BlueAnon, a play on the QAnon conspiracy theory from several years ago, has seen a concerning number of Democrats buy into conspiracies that Trump uses a body double, among other unfounded allegations.
While the QAnon conspiracy theorists were relatively few in number, it appears news networks like MSNBC have amplified BlueAnon conspiracies, leading to a large number of Democrats believing the assassination attempt was stated.
The National Pulse reported that MSNBC host Joy Reid has emerged as a leading figure encouraging the conspiracy theory. In a post video posted to social media, Reid claims to be ‘just asking questions’ as she posits that a bullet did not strike Trump and suggests that doctors and public officials are concealing the facts about his injuries.
Meanwhile, MSNBC was forced to pull its Monday episode of Morning Joe over concerns that hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski—along with their cavalcade of far-left guests—could engage in an unhinged reaction to the shooting. According to reports, the “decision was made to avoid a scenario in which one of the show’s stable of two dozen-plus guests might make an inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole.”
