Two police officers were hospitalized following clashes between protesters and counter-demonstrators in the southwest city of Bristol this weekend. One officer was struck on the head with a chair, and another was kicked off his motorcycle in scenes similar to those that have broken out all across the nation. The recent wave of protests comes in reaction to a triple homicide in Southport, where three young girls were killed at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party.
Protesters in Bristol were heard chanting slogans such as “we want our country back” and “England ’til I die.” Counter-demonstrators responded with chants of “racist scum, off our streets.” Not all protests were violent, but the confrontations that did occur followed a tumultuous week of unrest across the country.
Labour Party leader and recently elected Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer condemned the protesters and announced that he was going on vacation, leaving the country to be led by his Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.
Over the weekend, more than 30 protests were planned, and additional riot police were deployed. In Rotherham, about 100 pro-refugee demonstrators gathered outside a hotel housing illegal migrants and asylum seekers, which led to anti-mass migration protesters storming the building, reportedly smashing windows.

Nationwide, there has been a chorus of condemnation from police officials and politicians, the polar opposite response from when ‘Black Lives Matter UK’ protesters smashed up cities and destroyed statues across the nation in solidarity with the George Floyd protesters in the United States in 2020.
