Puerto Rico’s shadow senator, Zoraida Buxó, joined former President Donald J. Trump at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to endorse him on Tuesday. Buxó’s appearance follows a media frenzy over insult comic Tony Hinchcliffe making a joke about Puerto Rico at a massive Trump rally in Madison Square Garden, New York City.
“We need the leadership of Donald J. Trump as our Commander-in-Chief and Dave McCormick for a renewed leadership in the United States Senate,” she said, referring to the Republican Senate candidate in Pennsylvania.
“Pennsylvanians, Americans, all, a better future is in your hands. Your vote is the most powerful tool you have to bring about change. And for Latinos: Dale a Trump la fuersa de ta voto,” she said, giving the Spanish for “Give Trump the force of your vote.”
Buxó dismissed the Democrats’ feigned outrage over Hinchcliffe joking about Puerto Rico being an “island of garbage,” calling the quip “poorly received humor” that critics are twisting to misrepresent Trump’s personal views.
Hinchcliffe, host of the popular Kill Tony comedy show, has dismissed the furor around his remarks, writing on social media, “These people have no sense of humor… I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I made fun of everyone.”
