Christopher Wray, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), will resign by the end of next month. This will allow President Donald J. Trump to nominate Kash Patel as his choice to run the bureau.
The announcement came during an all-staff meeting of FBI employees. According to federal statutes, the FBI director is limited to a maximum ten-year term, though nothing bars a president from firing a director early.
President-elect Trump announced at the end of November that Kash Patel is his choice to run the FBI in his second administration. “I am proud to announce that Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Director Wray has been the target of much criticism over this handling of the FBI. Two days ago, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) wrote a letter to the FBI chief demanding his resignation.
Infamously, Wray gave credence to the BlueAnon conspiracy that President-elect Trump was not struck by an assassin’s bullet during his rally in Bulter, Pennsylvania, this past July.
