Jonah Platt, son of Disney’s Snow White producer Marc Platt, is slamming the film’s starring actress Rachel Zegler for pushing her own personal politics while promoting the film, resulting in its dismal critical reception. Zegler, known previously for her role in West Side Story, espoused far-left political positions while promoting the film, including telling her social media followers to not only watch the Snow White trailer but to “always remember, free Palestine.”
Following the “free Palestine” post, Zegler was contacted by Disney, and producer Marc Platt flew from Los Angeles to New York to discuss the matter with the actress directly. After an Instagram user messaged Jonah Platt, calling his father’s decision to chastize Zegler “uncalled for” and “creepy, ” the 38-year-old Platt—himself a star of Broadway’s Wicked—fired back, defending his father.
“Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,” the younger Platt wrote. He continued: “This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office. Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions.”
“Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all of the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful,” Platt said, adding: “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”
PRO-PALESTINE, ANTI-TRUMP.
Notably, Zegler has now agreed to have her Snow White promotion posts on social media reviewed by a Disney public relations team. The film’s box office opened far lower than expected, grossing just $43 million in the United States and $87 million worldwide.
Variety also noted that Zegler had agreed to have her “Snow White” social media posts reviewed by Disney representatives. Despite efforts to manage the narrative, the movie opened to lower-than-expected box office numbers, grossing $43 million domestically and $87 million worldwide. Following the 2024 presidential election, Zegler declared President Donald J. Trump to be a threat to democracy and wrote on social media: “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.”
