Gonzalez died on an R train near the Whitehall Street station in New York City in April 2025, and Jeronimo-Rojas assaulted his corpse and searched his pockets roughly three hours later. After surveillance footage capturing the incident was released, Jeronimo-Rojas turned himself in three weeks later. He was initially charged with rape and grand larceny. ICE has lodged a detainer against Jeronimo-Rojas, and DHS has revealed that Jeronimo-Rojas illegally entered the United States four times between 1998 and 1999 before illegally entering the country for a fifth time on an unknown date.
