Notably, the Iranian missiles were easily intercepted by U.S. air defenses in Qatar.

Mojtaba Zarei, an Iranian lawmaker, addressed Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). “I propose that the U.S. Army, accomplice of Israel, be expelled from Qatar, and that the Revolutionary Guard aerospace force deploy Fattah hypersonic missiles on your soil to defend your sovereignty,” he wrote in Farsi. Zarei also suggested that the emir should request support from the Revolutionary Guard in Qatar.

Iran’s armed forces have accused the U.S. of backing Israel’s actions, with Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi stating, “The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will never hesitate to support our Qatari brothers.” However, U.S. President Donald J. Trump has clarified, “This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu; it was not a decision made by me,” and come out strongly against the attack.

President Donald J. Trump announced during a Fox & Friends appearance that a suspect is in custody in relation to the assassination of  Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The suspect has now been named as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Washington County, Utah, reportedly turned in by his father.

Trump stated, “I think with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody, in custody. Everyone did a great job. We worked with the local police, the governor.”

Video footage had been released showing the suspect dropping from a rooftop after the shooting. Authorities had asked for public assistance in identifying him, offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Trump shared that the suspect’s father played a role in convincing him to surrender, saying, “The father convinced the son, ‘This is it.’ I am always subject to be corrected, but I’m just giving you based on what I am hearing.”

Initial reports from Utah Valley University suggested a suspect had been apprehended, but they turned out not to be the shooter. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel later indicated that a second “subject” had been caught, but they were also released.

Authorities have reportedly recovered what they believe is the weapon used in the attack, a high-powered bolt-action rifle, found in a nearby wooded area. Kirk had been addressing a crowd of college students when he was struck by a single shot to the neck. Trump has pledged to award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The discovery is particularly notable because it involves some of the youngest sedimentary rocks studied during the mission. This challenges earlier assumptions that evidence of ancient life would only be found in older formations. It also suggests that Mars may have been habitable for a longer period or later in its history than previously believed.

“Astrobiological claims, particularly those related to the potential discovery of past extraterrestrial life, require extraordinary evidence,” said Katie Stack Morgan, Perseverance’s project scientist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). She emphasized the importance of peer-reviewed publication to validate findings.

The scientific community utilizes tools like the CoLD scale and Standards of Evidence to evaluate potential signs of life. These frameworks help determine the level of confidence in data suggesting extraterrestrial life, improving the rigor of such claims.

Since landing at Jezero Crater in February 2021, the Perseverance rover has collected 27 rock cores. The rover is equipped with advanced instruments, including a weather station and swatches of spacesuit material for future human mission studies. NASA JPL, managed by Caltech, oversees the rover’s operations as part of NASA’s Mars Exploration Program.
