Portland Police and Portland officials have long been accused of at worst enabling and at best turning a blind eye to the regular attacks on federal immigration enforcement in Portland, due to local politicians’ stance against taking action against illegal immigrants. Portland’s government is actively harassing the ICE facility where Sortor was arrested, alleging land use violations.

He accused the preacher of “causing annoyance, upset, and distress” to “the local community and businesses,” citing “the content you are choosing to preach… and the choice of words,” as well as his use of a loudspeaker.

Despite clearly indicating that his words as well as his volume were the issue, the officer backtracked when Sabatelli asked him if he was banned from preaching the word of God, saying it was only the “manner” of his preaching “using a loudspeaker” that was at issue. Sabatelli therefore continued preaching using only his voice.

Sabatelli, who has amassed a significant following, with 91,000 followers on Instagram and 184,000 on TikTok, was previously driven out of Brighton last month for preaching on topics such as homosexuality, which the Bible describes as a sin.

Of this group, 36 percent have a migration background, significantly higher than the 26 percent observed across the total German population. Destatis noted that around 80 percent of those with a migration background in this cohort arrived in Germany after reunification.

The data reflects broader demographic shifts in the country. According to recent figures, one in three young adults in Germany aged 20 to 39 now comes from a migration background. The proportion of the overall population with migration roots continues to climb steadily, with migrants and their descendants making up more than a quarter of the total population as of 2024.

This trend has accelerated particularly since 2015, when former Chancellor Angela Merkel made the decision to open Germany’s borders during the European migrant crisis. Between 2015 and 2020, approximately 1.5 million people entered Germany as refugees. Millions more followed through chain migration, reshaping the country’s social and cultural fabric.

The economic and social impacts of this demographic change have been significant. Data from the Federal Employment Agency shows that 33 percent of the long-term unemployed in Germany are migrants. In addition, migrants make up a large share of those receiving social welfare. A 2023 report revealed that 60 percent of welfare recipients in Germany come from a migration background.

Public opinion on the consequences of mass migration remains sharply divided. A Forsa poll found that only 21 percent of Germans believe the country has successfully managed the influx of migrants. Meanwhile, 41 percent say Germany has not coped well, and 37 percent believe the country has not coped at all.

Negative attitudes towards mass migration have been reinforced by a number of violent incidents in recent years involving asylum seekers or others with migration backgrounds.

The United States is taking a more aggressive stance in supporting Ukraine’s war effort against Russia with new intelligence-sharing efforts and potential long-range missile deliveries. The U.S. is now helping Ukraine identify key Russian energy infrastructure, including refineries and pipelines, which could become targets in future strikes. The goal is to undermine Moscow’s oil and gas sector, a major source of revenue for its military operations.

President Donald J. Trump is also reportedly considering providing Ukraine with Tomahawk and Barracuda cruise missiles, marking a significant shift in U.S. policy. Washington had previously avoided helping Ukraine carry out strikes deep inside Russian territory, especially on energy assets. The new approach signals a willingness to support more direct pressure on Russia’s economy.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Trump in New York in recent days to request the missile systems. Trump has voiced optimism about Ukraine’s ability to push back Russian forces if it receives enough international support. In a Truth Social post, he wrote, “With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option. Why not? Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win.”

He also defended Ukraine’s right to strike inside Russia, stating, “It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invader’s country. It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defense, but is not allowed to play offense.”

However, Trump has made it clear that he will not commit American troops to Ukraine. In an interview, he ruled out U.S. boots on the ground under any future security agreement. “There’ll be some form of security… but it can’t be NATO,” he said.

Trump feels let down by Russian President Vladimir Putin since they met for peace talks in Alaska in August, believing the Kremlin supremo has not been making a serious effort to wind down the conflict. In late September, a senior Russian official issued a nuclear threat directed at the United States in response to U.S. support for Ukraine.

Far-left Portland City Council member Angelita Morillo—a bisexual, self-described “queer” using they/them pronouns, originally from Paraguay—is advising city residents to buy burner phones and use encrypted messaging apps to avoid tracking by immigration officers and federal agents. This recommendation was made in a nearly three-minute video posted to her Facebook account.

Morillo’s advice comes as a response to President Donald J. Trump‘s decision to deploy the National Guard to Portland to defend U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities that have faced ongoing violent demonstrations and attacks by Antifa. While the far-left city council member emphasized the need for protesters to protect themselves from surveillance, the recommendation could also be used by violent protestors to elude law enforcement.

In her video, Morillo stated, “Your phone? You should consider this a tracker and a listening device at all times,” warning that phones can track location and identify patterns of communication and organization.

Morillo suggested additional precautions such as using a Faraday cage, disabling fingerprint and facial recognition technology, and having a secure PIN. She also recommended purchasing burner phones in cash and using encrypted apps like Signal.
