Elon Musk’s SpaceX is reportedly set to receive $2 billion from the U.S. government to develop satellites for the Golden Dome project, aimed at tracking missiles and aircraft. This funding, part of the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) Act signed by President Trump in July, was not initially linked to any specific contractor, with SpaceX only recently believed to have won the contract.

The Golden Dome project, announced by Trump in May 2025, is a proposed missile defense system that combines space-based sensors with ground-based radars and missiles. The project has a budget of $175 billion and could eventually include up to 600 satellites.

SpaceX is also expected to contribute significantly to two other Pentagon satellite projects: Milnet, for military communications, and another network for tracking ground vehicles. Other companies, such as Anduril Industries and traditional defense contractors, have also proposed technologies for the initiative.
