Obama Judge Orders Immigration Agents to Wear Bodycams, Restricts Use of Tear Gas.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A Barack Obama-appointed federal judge has issued a ban on immigration authorities using tear gas and other riot weapons during protests in Chicago, Illinois.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: District Judge Sara Ellis, Border Patrol official Greg Bovino, and protesters, reporters, and faith leaders in Chicago.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The ruling was issued during a hearing on Thursday, affecting protests across Chicago neighborhoods.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The use of force shocks the conscience,” Judge Ellis said during the hearing.

🎯IMPACT: Federal agents are prohibited from using riot control weapons without warnings and must wear body cameras, as per the court’s injunction.

IN FULL

A federal judge has prohibited immigration officials from using tear gas or other riot control tools at protests in Chicago, Illinois. Presiding Judge Sara Ellis, appointed by Barack Obama, rebuked Greg Bovino, a senior Border Patrol executive, claiming his testimony that a protester had hit him with a rock was “simply not credible.”

“Describing neighborhood moms as professional agitators shows just how out of touch these agents are,” Ellis claimed, glossing over the many far more aggressive demonstrators that attend such events. The lawsuit, brought by activists, news organizations, and clergy, alleged that federal personnel unleashed tear gas and pepper balls on crowds without prior alerts.

Witnesses described agents, directed by Bovino, launching tear gas from unmarked cars and aiming guns at people while issuing menacing statements. The plaintiffs contended these moves were designed to provoke unrest and provide a pretext for escalating federal intervention in the city.

Under Ellis’s order, such weapons are now banned unless agents deliver two clear warnings and face an immediate danger to safety. Immigration personnel are also required to activate body cameras going forward. The restriction remains in effect until a definitive decision or a successful challenge from the Trump administration.

Another Mamdani Aide Found Trashing ‘White Civility,’ ‘White Politeness,’ and ‘White Women Behavior’ Online.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: An aide to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted a series of since-deleted tweets expressing disdain for “white woman behavior.”

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Drashti Brahmbhatt, an advisor to Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and an unnamed older woman on a Metro-North Railroad train.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The incident occurred in November 2021 on a Metro-North Railroad train. Brahmbhatt’s tweets were recently unearthed by a reporter.

💬KEY QUOTE: “I don’t need to follow white standards of ‘politeness’.” – Drashti Brahmbhatt

🎯IMPACT: Brahmbhatt’s comments have drawn attention to her political affiliations and past controversial statements, though Mayor Mamdani has yet to comment on the matter.

IN FULL

An aide to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing renewed scrutiny after deleted social media posts resurfaced disparaging what she called “white woman behavior” during a confrontation on public transit. The tweets, posted in November 2021 by Drashti Brahmbhatt, described a supposed incident on a Metro-North Railroad train in which Brahmbhatt claimed that an “older white woman” repeatedly gave her “death glares” for being on a phone call that lasted about 40 minutes.

Brahmbhatt insisted that she was speaking “as softly as humanely [sic] possible” when the woman looked at her multiple times. According to her tweets, Brahmbhatt confronted the woman, saying, “Excuse me, there’s no need to give me death glares for quietly speaking on the phone. This is public transportation and you’re allowed to quietly talk.” When the woman allegedly said her behavior was “annoying,” Brahmbhatt responded, “It’s 2021 and we can stop practicing white civility.” She added that the woman looked “dumbfounded” when she said, “I don’t need to follow white standards of ‘politeness’.”

In the same thread, Brahmbhatt acknowledged that some accused her of exaggerating “how terrible white women are,” but said she hoped others could relate. “[T]his is obvi [obviously] a very small problem and instance of ‘white woman’ behavior but it still sucks!” she added. The tweets were later deleted.

At the time of the posts, Brahmbhatt worked for the NYC Civic Engagement Commission. She later joined Mamdani’s administration as an advisor after serving on his transition team and inaugural committee. Her past online activity includes support for the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), of which Mamdani is a member, calls to “defund and abolish the police,” and criticism of politicians who support Israel.

Mamdani has not publicly commented on Brahmbhatt’s tweets. However, in a previous controversy, he defended another aide after their posts calling to “Impoverish the *white* middle class” resurfaced. His election platform included proposals to impose punitive taxes on “whiter neighborhoods.”

Separately, questions have been raised about senior Mamdani aide Ali Najmi, who has been linked to a law firm accused in court filings of major fraud, and the appointment of a former Rikers Island inmate to lead the city’s Department of Corrections.

Jack Smith Accused of Circumventing Constitutional Safeguards to Secretly Obtain Senators’ Phone Records.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Phone records of sitting members of Congress were secretly obtained under subpoenas, accompanied by gag orders that prevented lawmakers from being notified, according to Senator Chuck Grassley.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), former special counsel Jack Smith, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Allegations were made at a hearing on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, on Capitol Hill.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Smith’s deceitful conduct was a substantial intrusion into the core constitutional activity of constitutional officers.” – Sen. Chuck Grassley

🎯IMPACT: Sen. Grassley alleges that Smith and his team appear to have purposefully circumvented constitutional safeguards to obtain the phone records of senators.

IN FULL

Republican senators are seeking explanations from several major phone carriers at a Senate hearing on Tuesday as to their internal decisions to comply with subpoenas issued by former Biden government special counsel Jack Smith as part of the Arctic Frost investigation. In his opening remarks, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) revealed that Smith and his team appear to have purposefully circumvented constitutional safeguards to obtain the phone records.

Notably, several statutes require senators to be notified of subpoenas seeking certain records—including phone data—and these notifications can be waived only if the senator is the specific target of an investigation. In the case of Arctic Frost, the 20 Republican lawmakers whose phone toll records were subpoenaed by Smith were not specific investigatory targets, which Grassley says should have meant the lawmakers were to have been notified of the subpoenas.

“Smith and his team irresponsibly steamrolled ahead while intentionally hiding their activity from Members of Congress,” Sen. Grassley said at the start of the hearing, adding, “Smith’s deceitful conduct was a substantial intrusion into the core constitutional activity of constitutional officers.”

Instead of following the legal avenues and notification requirements, Grassley stated that Smith and his team instead sought gag orders from federal judges—mainly U.S. District Court Judges James Boasberg and Beryl Howell—to prevent the lawmakers from being appropriately notified. The Tuesday hearing seeks to understand the internal procedures used by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile to handle subpoena requests—especially since, in the case of Verizon, the company was under a separate agreement that required it to notify the Senate Sergeant at Arms of subpoena requests pertaining to senators.

The National Pulse has previously reported that the sprawling Arctic Frost scandal saw Smith abuse the powers of the special counsel’s office in an apparent attempt to interfere in the 2024 presidential election, targeting hundreds of figures in the Republican party—some appearing entirely unconnected to the January 6 Capitol riots.

Importantly, Smith was warned by the Biden Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Public Integrity Section that the subpoenas could open the agency and investigation to litigation on constitutional grounds. Still, the Biden DOJ approved Smith’s subpoenas.

‘Where’s Our Help?’ – Ohio Workers Bemoan Chinese Factory Killing Jobs.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Nearly a year after a federal raid and investigation over illegal labor practices, Fuyao Glass America—a Chinese-owned auto glass factory—continues to operate in Ohio, undercutting prices and threatening to destroy the state’s native glass industry.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Fuyao Glass America, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Vitro Automotive Glass, Ohio government officials, and the Trump administration.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Fuyao Glass America was raided by federal authorities in 2024, and $126 million in civil forfeiture was seized in 2025 for illegal employment practices. Still, Fuyao Glass America continues to operate, and a number of Ohio glass companies may now be forced to close in 2026.

💬KEY QUOTE: “They say they want to make America great again—where’s our help?” Chandra Jarvis, a Vitro glassworker in Crestline, Ohio.

🎯IMPACT: The Trump administration is believed to be exploring a number of actions to crack down on foreign companies like Fuyao Glass America; however, these efforts could be derailed if President Donald J. Trump strikes a trade agreement with Beijing.

IN FULL

Outsourcing is no longer the only threat facing American workers, as the ongoing struggles of the Ohio domestic glass industry illustrate in the face of China’s Fuyao Glass America, which set up shop in the state over a decade ago. The glass industry has long been a cornerstone of the Ohio economy—with glass factories operating from Dayton to Cambridge—but the Fuyao situation has seen a foreign company backed by the former President Barack Obama, while receiving Chinese state subsidies and engaging in unlawful labor practices, devastate that industry, leaving Ohio workers asking, “Where’s our help?“

A key supplier to GM, Ford, and Stellantis, Fuyao Glass America, critics allege, threatens U.S. supply chains and has used illegal employment practices to undermine its competitors. Long-standing Ohio glass companies contend that Fuyao Glass America receives generous subsidies from Beijing, allowing the Chinese company to undercut the prices of its native competitors. The lack of federal action against Fuyao has frustrated Ohioans, with a number of the state’s long-standing glass companies facing closure.

“They say they want to make America great again—where’s our help?” Chandra Jarvis, a Vitro glassworker in Crestline, Ohio, said in a recent interview. Notably, the Trump administration is believed to be considering several steps—primarily on national security grounds—to curb the Chinese manufacturing presence in the United States. However, Ohio workers and, more broadly, national security critics of China worry that any federal action could be derailed if President Donald J. Trump strikes a trade deal with Beijing. Notably, Fuyao and other Chinese manufacturers have continued to operate despite federal scrutiny and widespread evidence of illegal activity.

The National Pulse reported in April 2025 that Fuyao Glass America was part of a broader federal investigation into a group of Chinese-owned manufacturers operating in a complex near Dayton, Ohio, accused of illegally importing workers from China. A total of $126 million in assets were seized by federal investigators, who allege the foreign workers, primarily of Chinese and Hispanic origin, were housed in accommodation owned by their employers and transported to work by them. According to authorities, roughly 40 entities were established to facilitate the employment of these people, who entered and stayed in the United States unlawfully or worked without necessary permits.

FBI Report Reveals Trump Was ‘One of the Very First’ to Contact Police About ‘Disgusting’ Epstein.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A newly-disclosed Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) report reveals that Donald J. Trump was “one of the very first people to call [the police] when people found out that they were investigating Epstein,” advising them to focus on the pedophile financier’s “evil” associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who would later be convicted of sex trafficking minors.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Donald J. Trump, former Palm Beach police chief Michael Reiter, and deceased pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Trump’s call to the police reportedly took place in July 2006, with the interview documented by the FBI in 2019.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Thank goodness you’re stopping him, everyone has known he’s been doing this.” – Donald Trump

🎯IMPACT: The call highlights Trump’s early involvement in calling out Epstein, while other public figures continued to be friendly with him even after his 2008 conviction for procuring a minor for prostitution.

IN FULL

A newly disclosed Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) report from 2019, summarizing an interview with former Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter, reveals that Donald J. Trump was among the first to contact law enforcement in support of their early investigation into Jeffrey Epstein in the 2000s. According to the interview summary, Trump called the Palm Beach Police Department in July 2006—around the time details of the probe became public—to express his support for the efforts against Epstein. Reiter recounted that Trump said, “Thank goodness you’re stopping him, everyone has known he’s been doing this,” telling him that “people in New York knew Epstein was disgusting.”

“TRUMP was one of the very first people to call when people found out that they were investigating EPSTEIN,” the report stresses, adding that the then-future president described Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell as the pedophile’s “operative,” adding that “she is evil and to focus on her.” Maxwell would eventually be convicted of sex trafficking minors, among other serious crimes.

Trump told Reiter he had once seen Epstein around teenagers and promptly “got the hell out of there,” and recounted how he banned him from Mar-a-Lago. Virginia Giuffre, a high-profile Epstein victim linked to the now-former Prince Andrew, previously worked at Mar-a-Lago, where her father was a maintenance worker, and said Trump was “kind to her” and denied he was involved in any sexual impropriety or even flirting.

“It’s true that he didn’t partake in any sex with us… it’s not true that he flirted with me. Donald Trump never flirted with me,” she said.

Reiter, who oversaw the initial Palm Beach Police investigation into Epstein that began in 2005, clashed with local prosecutors over the case’s handling and later turned the evidence over to the FBI. He went public in 2006 to voice frustration with the situation.

Court Orders Surgeon, Psychologist to Pay $2M in Damages for Transitioning Minor.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A New York jury delivered a first-of-its-kind verdict, holding a surgeon and psychologist liable for malpractice in a case brought by a “detransitioner.”

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Fox Varian, a 22-year-old detransitioner, and the medical professionals involved in her case.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The verdict was reached on January 30 in New York.

🎯IMPACT: The jury awarded Varian $1.6 million for pain and suffering and $400,000 for future medical expenses related to the gender transition, setting a precedent for other detransitioners.

IN FULL

A New York jury has found a surgeon and a psychologist liable for malpractice in a case brought by 22-year-old Fox Varian, who underwent a double mastectomy at age 16 after identifying as transgender. The jury awarded Varian $1.6 million in damages for pain and suffering and $400,000 for future medical expenses.

The verdict is being described as a landmark decision for detransitioners—people who stop or reverse a gender transition—who have historically struggled to pursue legal action over medical interventions they now regret. Supporters of the ruling say it signals a shift toward increased scrutiny of medical professionals who authorize or perform irreversible procedures on minors.

One detransitioner commenting on the outcome said, “This case is a huge leap … every doctor and clinic involved in this fad should be very afraid for what comes next.”

The case comes amid broader debate over the medical treatment of gender dysphoria, particularly in children and adolescents. Minors lack the capacity to give informed consent for such irreversible medical interventions.

Recent research has intensified the controversy. An extensive study cited by critics of surgical intervention found that transgender surgeries were not associated with improved mental health outcomes, such as reductions in depression or anxiety diagnoses, raising questions about long-term benefits.

The legal landscape is also shifting. In recent years, multiple states have enacted laws restricting or banning transgender medical treatments for minors. In one notable ruling, a judge upheld a state ban on transgender medical procedures for minors, reinforcing the authority of states to regulate such care. Courts have increasingly deferred to lawmakers on the issue, citing ongoing scientific and ethical disagreements.

King Charles III ‘Ready to Support’ Police Investigating Brother Andrew’s Dealings With Epstein.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: British police are assessing claims that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, shared confidential reports with deceased pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Jeffrey Epstein, King Charles III, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Thames Valley Police.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The investigation was reignited following the recent release of documents by U.S. authorities, with public scrutiny intensifying during King Charles III’s visit to Lancashire.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct.” – Buckingham Palace spokesman.

🎯IMPACT: The scandal has brought renewed scrutiny on the monarchy and Westminster, with public protests and police investigations into related claims.

IN FULL

England’s Thames Valley Police are investigating claims that Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor, one of the younger brothers of King Charles III and the former Duke of York, shared confidential trade envoy documents with deceased pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. The allegations follow the release of emails by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) suggesting Andrew may have provided sensitive official reports to Epstein, raising concerns about potential breaches of confidentiality.

Buckingham Palace has issued a statement, saying, “The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten‑Windsor’s conduct. While the specific claims in question are for Mr Mountbatten‑Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley Police we stand ready to support them as you would expect.”

During a recent visit to a railway station in Lancashire, King Charles III was confronted by a member of the public who shouted, “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?” The King did not answer, and the crowd reacted with boos.

Recent DOJ disclosures concerning Epstein include emails suggesting that Andrew contacted Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s convicted associate, in 2001, asking if she had found him “some new inappropriate friends.” These messages have fueled scrutiny of his long-standing ties to Epstein and Maxwell.

In November 2025, Andrew was officially stripped of his royal titles and the style of “His Royal Highness” by King Charles, who is 77 and currently battling cancer. Andrew has also been evicted from the Royal Lodge and told to find private accommodation.

Cruz Brags Newsmax CEO Ruddy, Seeking to Cripple Local News, Will Endorse Him in 2028.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) reportedly told donors that Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy would support his potential 2028 presidential bid.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Senator Ted Cruz, Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy, local news companies Ruddy is trying to cripple, and Vice President J.D. Vance as a likely 2028 presidential candidate.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Cruz’s comments were reportedly made at a fundraiser late last year; Ruddy is set to testify before Cruz’s Senate committee on Tuesday.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Neither [Chris Ruddy] nor Newsmax have made any pledge of support for any candidate in 2028,” said a Newsmax spokesman.

🎯IMPACT: Ruddy’s endorsement, if it materializes, could provide Cruz with a significant media platform, with Cruz possibly helping Ruddy’s efforts to prevent local news from competing with corporate national broadcasters.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) privately told donors that Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy would support a potential Cruz presidential campaign in 2028, according to a donor’s account. The comments were reportedly made as Ruddy was preparing to testify before Cruz’s Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation at a hearing titled “We Interrupt This Program: Media Ownership and the Digital Age.” Notably, Ruddy is currently seeking to sabotage a merger between Nexstar Media Group and TEGNA, crippling the ability of local news to compete with corporate national broadcasters.

The Newsmax CEO has emerged as a leading opponent of the proposed merger between Nexstar and Tegna, arguing the deal would exceed federal broadcast ownership limits and consolidate power among left-leaning media companies. However, Ruddy has denied making any commitment to Cruz, with a Newsmax spokesman saying, “Neither he nor Newsmax have made any pledge of support for any candidate in 2028.”

President Donald J. Trump has taken the opposite position to Ruddy on the merger, urging Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval of the deal on Truth Social. “We need more competition against THE ENEMY, the Fake News National TV Networks,” he wrote.

Trump’s endorsement of the merger places Ruddy, in opposition, alongside far-left Democrats, including Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representatives Maxwell Frost and Summer Lee.

Cruz, who chairs the Senate committee overseeing communications policy, has not publicly staked out a position on the proposed merger. However, he has often criticized the FCC under President Trump’s appointees, criticizing FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr for questioning ABC’s broadcast license over comments by Jimmy Kimmel blaming conservatives for the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.

Cruz is weighing a possible 2028 presidential run that would likely place him in a Republican primary against Vice President J.D. Vance as the de facto neoconservative throwback candidate. Cruz has privately criticized Vance, with leaked audio capturing him calling the Vice President a “pawn” of Tucker Carlson.

Vance, for his part, has said he plans to discuss a potential 2028 campaign with Trump after the midterm elections, while emphasizing that his current focus is governing.

Minnesota Woman Locked Up for $325K SNAP Fraud.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A Minnesota woman was sentenced to just one year in prison for defrauding the federal government of more than $325,000 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Latasha Thomas, two of her relatives, federal prosecutors, and federal taxpayers.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The fraudulent actions took place over two years in Minnesota, with sentencing announced last week.

🎯IMPACT: Thomas was ordered to repay $325,159 in restitution to the United States Department of Agriculture.

IN FULL

Latasha Thomas, a 39-year-old Minnesota resident, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison after being convicted of mail fraud for orchestrating a scheme to steal benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. Federal prosecutors said Thomas worked for more than two years with her daughter, Ambrosia Thomas, and another relative, Cynthia Thomas, to unlawfully obtain Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards funded through SNAP. Investigators said the group used fake Minnesota temporary driver’s licenses containing false names and photographs of the Thomases to apply for benefits through Hennepin County.

Prosecutors said the defendants also submitted fabricated medical documentation, falsely claiming they were women experiencing “high-risk pregnancies” in order to increase the amount of SNAP benefits loaded onto the cards each month. The EBT cards were mailed to an apartment in Roseville linked to Cynthia Thomas, who allegedly lived there under the alias Sofia Gold. Law enforcement later found mail addressed to multiple fictitious identities and notes instructing postal carriers to deliver items for those names to the same apartment.

Authorities said the fraudulently obtained SNAP funds were withdrawn from ATMs, used for purchases, or trafficked to others. Customers were allegedly charged between 50 and 60 percent of a card’s monthly balance in exchange for temporary access to the EBT cards, which were returned after an agreed portion of the benefits had been spent.

As part of her sentence, Latasha Thomas was ordered to pay $325,159 in restitution to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers SNAP at the federal level. Cynthia Thomas was convicted last year and sentenced to three years of probation. Ambrosia Thomas has agreed to plead guilty to mail fraud and is awaiting sentencing.

SNAP is a federally funded program designed to help low-income individuals and families afford food, with benefits issued monthly through EBT cards that can be used at authorized retailers. The program has faced increased scrutiny in recent years following multiple large-scale fraud investigations and federal findings that benefits were improperly issued in hundreds of thousands of cases, including to dead people. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has sought expanded access to state data to detect ineligible recipients, with Democrat state officials resisting.

Cuba Can’t Refuel Planes After Losing Maduro Oil Lifeline.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Cuban aviation officials warned airlines of a fuel shortage on the island, forcing energy rationing and disrupting flights.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Cuban aviation officials, airlines, and U.S. President Donald J. Trump.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The notice was issued on Sunday in Havana, Cuba, and confirmed by a pilot on Monday.

💬KEY QUOTE: “While refueling issues have occurred before, an official announcement of this scale is extraordinary even for an island accustomed to perpetual crisis.” – Anonymous pilot.

🎯IMPACT: Tourism and transportation in Cuba face significant challenges, with long-haul flights disrupted and fuel rationing affecting daily life.

IN FULL

Cuban aviation authorities have warned international airlines that the island may soon be unable to refuel aircraft, as Cuba’s deepening energy crisis spreads to the aviation sector. The notice was issued on Sunday and confirmed on Monday by a commercial pilot who spoke on condition of anonymity. The pilot described the situation as “extraordinary,” even by Cuban standards, noting that shortages have reached a level rarely seen despite the country’s long-running economic difficulties.

The warning comes as Cuba faces severe fuel rationing tied to reduced oil imports. The Trump administration has stepped up economic pressure on Havana, effectively cutting off access to key fuel supplies from allies such as Venezuela, where former Marxist dictator Nicolás Maduro has been ousted, and Mexico. An executive order signed by President Donald J. Trump in January imposed tariffs on goods from countries that provide oil to Cuba, further straining the island’s already fragile energy system.

Some airlines have already been forced to alter operations. Air Canada has suspended flights to Cuba, while other carriers are planning delays or technical stops in nearby countries, including the Dominican Republic, to refuel before continuing to or from Cuban airports. The disruptions threaten Cuba’s tourism sector, one of its most important sources of foreign currency.

The fuel shortage is affecting daily life across the island. Public transportation has been reduced, fuel sales are restricted and often priced in U.S. dollars, and major cultural events such as the Havana International Book Fair have been canceled. In a televised address, President Miguel Díaz-Canel warned citizens that additional austerity measures could be introduced as the crisis worsens.

Many Cubans have compared current conditions to the “Special Period” of the 1990s, when the collapse of Soviet support triggered widespread shortages. Now, residents face prolonged power outages, limited mobility, and difficulties obtaining basic goods, with no clear timeline for improvement.

U.S. officials have publicly suggested that Cuba’s prior dependence on Venezuelan oil leaves its communist regime vulnerable. The Trump administration aims to see major political change in Cuba by the end of the year, with the President recently saying the island’s leadership is nearing collapse.

House Oversight Chairman Presses Ilhan Omar’s Husband Over ‘Concerning’ Spike in Wealth.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The House Oversight Committee is investigating the rapid increase in value of two companies owned by the husband of Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), raising concerns about selling access and financial transparency.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Rep. Omar, her husband Timothy Mynett, and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY).

📍WHEN & WHERE: The investigation centers on financial disclosures from 2023 onwards, with recent developments in Washington, D.C.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Given that these companies do not publicly list their investors or where their money comes from, this sudden jump in value raises concerns that unknown individuals may be investing to gain influence with your wife.” — Rep. Comer.

🎯IMPACT: The investigation means further scrutiny of Omar’s finances and ethical concerns involving the Somalia-born Democrat and her family.

IN FULL

The House Oversight Committee is examining a sharp rise in the reported value of two companies owned by Timothy Mynett, the husband of Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), with concerns over potential influence-buying. According to the committee, Mynett’s firms, eStCru LLC and Rose Lake Capital LLC, were valued at roughly $51,000 in 2023 but were disclosed as being worth as much as $30 million in 2024.

In a letter to Mynett, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) wrote, “Given that these companies do not publicly list their investors or where their money comes from, this sudden jump in value raises concerns that unknown individuals may be investing to gain influence with your wife.” Comer also referenced media reports citing a 2021 allegation that Mynett promised a 200 percent return on a $300,000 investment in eStCru but did not repay the funds until after being sued for fraud in 2023

Rose Lake Capital, listed in Omar’s 2024 financial disclosure as a venture capital firm, also reported a substantial increase in value. Omar previously disclosed that her husband earned between $5,000 and $15,000 from eStCru and no income from Rose Lake Capital.

The Oversight Committee has requested financial statements, investor information, travel records, and other documents related to both companies. The inquiry comes as Omar continues to face political controversy, with President Donald J. Trump saying investigations involving her are also underway at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

In recent years, Omar has also been linked by critics to broader Minnesota fraud scandals involving the Somali community, including a major pandemic-era case in which a former political operative associated with her admitted guilt in a scheme involving federal child nutrition funds. Omar herself has not been charged with fraud.
