1. New Swalwell Accuser Describes Being Raped – ‘I Thought I Died.’

Lonna Drewes has accused Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) of rape, alleging he spiked her drink and attacked her in a hotel room in 2018.

PULSE POINTS: ‘I THOUGHT I DIED.’
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Lonna Drewes, a former model and software company owner, has become the latest woman to come forward against Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell, accusing him of violently raping her in 2018. She made the allegations during a press conference in Beverly Hills on Tuesday. Swalwell resigned from Congress on Monday amid the growing scandal.
📺 DETAIL: Drewes alleges that she was “incapacitated” when Swalwell attacked her, recalling, “In 2018, while I was living and working as a model in Beverly Hills, and I also owned a fashion software company, I had contact with Eric Swalwell on three separate occasions… On the third occasion, I believe he drugged my drink.” She said she “knew he was married at the time and that his wife was pregnant” at the time of the attack, emphasizing that she would never have engaged in a consensual encounter with him, and that he choked her unconscious while raping her.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “He raped me, and he choked me. And while he was choking me, I lost consciousness. And I thought I died. I did not consent to any sexual activity.” – Lonna Drewes
🎯 IMPACT: Drewes’s attorney stated that a police report will be filed with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office “immediately.” Swalwell already faces an investigation in Manhattan for another alleged attack. The slew of allegations pushed him to end his bid for Governor of California and resign from Congress, although he denies any criminal wrongdoing.

2. Trump Blasts Italy’s Meloni, Calls NATO a ‘Paper Tiger.’

President Trump expressed disappointment in Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and NATO.

PULSE POINTS: I THOUGHT SHE HAD COURAGE.
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J. Trump has sharply criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, accusing her of lacking courage and failing to support U.S. efforts in NATO and against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
📺 DETAIL: Trump expressed his disappointment in an exclusive interview with Italy’s Corriere Della Sera. He stated that Meloni has not been supportive of U.S. initiatives within NATO. She recently distanced herself from him following a referendum defeat and his remarks about the Pope. He went on to criticize NATO as a “paper tiger” and suggested that Meloni’s stance could endanger Italy. He also mentioned the pair haven’t spoken recently, adding: “I’m shocked by her. I thought she had courage, I was wrong… it’s very different from what I thought.”
💬 KEY QUOTE: “She thinks America should do the work for her… She is the one who is unacceptable, because she doesn’t care if Iran has a nuclear weapon and would blow up Italy in two minutes if it had the chance.” – Donald Trump
🎯 IMPACT: Trump’s comments highlight a growing rift between him and Meloni, potentially affecting U.S.-Italy relations and NATO dynamics, especially concerning collective defense strategies. Meloni also suspended Italy’s defense pact with Israel on Monday, citing the safety of Italian UNIFIL peacekeepers in Lebanon after allegations that Israelis opened fire on Italian troops.

3. Trump Allies Form ‘Mass Deportation Coalition,’ Urging President to Go FURTHER.

The Mass Deportation Coalition is urging President Trump to adhere to his campaign promises amid concerns of waning deportation rhetoric.

PULSE POINTS: PROMISES MADE…
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: The Mass Deportation Coalition is pushing President Donald J. Trump to fulfill his campaign promise of mass deportations, as the administration appears to be softening its stance on the issue. Notably, following the fatal shooting of two pro-illegal immigration agitators in Minnesota, the administration wound down its deportation mission in the state, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair reportedly told Republican lawmakers to deemphasize deporting all illegal immigrants rather than only dangerous criminals.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “Our basic goal of the mass deportation coalition is to actually provide Trump with what we call kind of a right flank, saying, ‘No, Mr. President, you’re listening to the wrong people.’” – Mark Morgan, former head of ICE and CBP.
🎯 IMPACT: The coalition’s efforts highlight an emerging division between the Trump administration and its America First base, as the White House focuses on foreign policy objectives such as defeating Iran, and concerns grow among the base of flagging interest in deporting illegal immigrants at scale.
📺 DETAIL: Led by figures like Mike Howell of the Oversight Project, the Mass Deportation Coalition includes GOP think tanks and advocacy groups, aiming for at least one million deportations annually. They argue that public support for strict immigration enforcement remains high, despite opposition from liberal activists and donors who exploit foreign labor.
📺 FLASHBACK: In early March, James Blair posted on social media that “Republicans want to keep deporting the violent/criminal illegals that Joe Biden & the Democrats in Congress let in”—signaling a shift away from 2024 election promises that all illegal immigrants would be deported, in favor of a much narrower definition of “mass” deportations.

4. Scandal: Biden DOJ Targeted Pro-Lifers.

New evidence reveals the extent to which the Biden-era DOJ used federal law enforcement to go after pro-life activists.

PULSE POINTS: WEAPONIZED.
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: New details have emerged revealing how the Biden Department of Justice systematically targeted pro-life activists using federal law enforcement resources. The revelations raise further questions about the politicization of the DOJ under the previous administration.
🎯 IMPACT: The case adds to a growing body of evidence that the Biden DOJ weaponized federal agencies against political opponents, including the FBI’s targeting of concerned parents at school board meetings and the prosecution of peaceful pro-life demonstrators under the FACE Act. Read the full story here.

5. Dems Push ‘Stop Nick Shirley Act’ to Silence Citizen Journalists Exposing Fraud.

Instead of clamping down on fraud, California Democrats are going after the citizen journalists exposing it.

PULSE POINTS: THEY NAMED A BILL AFTER HIM.
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: California Democrats have voted for a highly controversial law that would clamp down on citizen journalists exposing fraud and abuse. Dubbed the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” after the popular citizen journalist known for his undercover videos, the legislation would impose new restrictions on undercover recordings and hidden-camera investigations targeting government operations.
🎯 IMPACT: Critics say the bill is a direct attack on the First Amendment and an attempt to shield government fraud from public scrutiny. The fact that Democrats named the bill after a specific journalist underscores the personal nature of the legislative effort. Read the full story here.

6. Authorities Claimed a Child Murderer Was Simply ‘Autistic.’ Then He Attacked, Killing Three.

An inquiry has found that multiple agencies failed to act on clear warnings about Axel Rudakubana’s violent tendencies, leading to the infamous child stabbing attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.

PULSE POINTS: THEY WERE WARNED.
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: An inquiry led by retired high court judge Sir Adrian Fulford found that warnings about child murderer Axel Rudakubana’s violent behavior were repeatedly ignored by various agencies in the lead up to a deadly stabbing attack on a children’s dance class in Southport, England, which killed three children and injured 10 others in 2024. Rudakubana was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum sentence of 52 years.
📺 DETAIL: The inquiry highlighted systemic failures in addressing Rudakubana’s behavior, which was often excused due to his autism diagnosis. Despite numerous red flags, including possession of weapons and violent outbursts, agencies failed to intervene effectively. Notably, his former school principal told the inquiry she had previously identified Rudakubana as “very high risk,” but was “shut down” by a mental health worker who accused her of racially profiling a “black boy with a knife.”
💬 KEY QUOTE: “Far from recognising that [Rudakubana] was responsible for his own actions… agencies regularly used his autism as an explanation or even an excuse for his conduct, including his violence. This was both unacceptable and superficial,” said Sir Adrian Fulford.
🎯 IMPACT: The failure to act on Rudakubana’s behavior resulted in the gruesome deaths of three young girls during the attack. The inquiry calls for a reevaluation of how agencies handle similar cases and stresses the need for better communication and accountability.
‼️ BLAME: Government agencies such as Lancashire Police, counterterrorism (PREVENT) officers, social services workers, and mental health staff in Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) were all held responsible by the inquiry.

7. Spain is About to Give Amnesty to Half a Million Illegals.

The Spanish government is preparing to legalize hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in one of Europe’s largest amnesty programs.

PULSE POINTS: SHAMNESTY, EUROPEAN EDITION.
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Spain’s socialist government is preparing to grant amnesty to approximately 500,000 illegal immigrants, making it one of the largest mass legalization programs in European history. The move comes as illegal immigration continues to surge across the continent.
🎯 IMPACT: Critics argue the amnesty will act as a magnet for further illegal immigration, rewarding those who broke the law while punishing legal immigrants who followed the process. The policy contrasts sharply with the Trump administration’s push for mass deportation and tougher border enforcement. Read the full story here.

8. Clinton-Era Commerce Chief Says Iran War Could Cost $1 Trillion.

Professor Linda Bilmes of the Harvard Kennedy School warns that the true costs of the Iran war are being significantly underestimated.

PULSE POINTS: THE TRILLION-DOLLAR WAR.
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: A Harvard study estimates that the U.S.-Iran war could cost over $1 trillion. Early Pentagon-reported expenses hit $11.3 billion in just six days of conflict. Professor Linda Bilmes of the Harvard Kennedy School and former Assistant Secretary in the Clinton Commerce Department warns that the true costs, including replacement of military assets and long-term liabilities, are significantly underestimated.
📺 DETAIL: Bilmes’s analysis suggests that the Pentagon’s reported costs are based on outdated inventory values, underestimating actual replacement expenses. The cost of replenishing interceptors and missiles is far higher than the production costs of Iran’s cheaper drones. The study also highlights the long-term financial strain from rebuilding damaged infrastructure and providing disability benefits to troops exposed to hazards.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “The result is that the interest costs alone will add billions of dollars to the total cost of this war. And unlike the upfront costs, these are costs we are explicitly passing on to the next generation.” – Professor Linda Bilmes
🎯 IMPACT: The financial implications of the Iran war could lead to unprecedented military spending, with the White House requesting a defense budget increase to $1.5 trillion. Such an expansion would mark the largest military budget increase since the Second World War.
📺 FLASHBACK: The Iraq war cost over $2 trillion when U.S. public debt was under $4 trillion. The current U.S. debt exceeds $31 trillion, underscoring the significantly higher financial risks of the Iran conflict.

Trump Accuses California of ‘Big Cheating’ as Primary Vote Counting Drags On.

California’s history of election incompetence has once again come under scrutiny, raising questions about the integrity of Tuesday’s gubernatorial primary.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: The results of Tuesday’s gubernatorial primary in California remain far from finalized. With partial counts from every precinct, Republican television host Steve Hilton, endorsed by President Donald J. Trump, currently leads at 27.6 percent of the vote. Former Biden Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra (D) is in second place with 25.6 percent, and both have passed the 1.3 million-vote mark. Democrat billionaire Tom Steyer sits in third with 19.8 percent, despite spending far more on his campaign than his rivals. However, because the vast majority of ballots in the Golden State are cast by mail, with mail-in ballots accepted for up to a week after Election Day, the two candidates who will advance to November’s general election remain unclear.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “There’s BIG cheating by the Dumocrats in California. Votes are all tied up. May not be in for weeks. Under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. Why the vote counting DELAY???” – President Donald J. Trump
📺 DETAIL: California has a history of mishandled elections, with results often taking weeks to resolve in suspicious circumstances, generally in the governing Democrats’ favor. During the 2024 U.S. House elections, for instance, Democrats gained control of three seats previously held by Republicans. One of those pickups came down to a razor-thin 187-vote difference and was not officially decided until a month after Election Day. In the process, both parties sent large teams of workers to “cure” mail-in ballots that had been flagged for errors. More Democrat ballots ended up being successfully cured than Republican ones, with the gap between the two parties’ cured ballots being larger than the final 187-vote margin itself.
🎯 IMPACT: Under California state law, the gubernatorial election will be contested between the top-two finishers in Tuesday’s primary, even if they are both from the same party. The election will be held on November 3.

Muslim Matchmaking Apps Are Promoting Polygamy in Britain.

An investigation has uncovered advertisements for polygamous relationships in ethnic and religious minority communities in the United Kingdom.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Polygamous relationships are being advertised openly on Muslim matchmaking apps and social media groups in the United Kingdom, according to a new investigation.
📺 DETAIL: The investigation uncovered multiple examples of polygamous relationships being publicly promoted in ethnic and religious minority communities. In one case, Muslima, a Muslim matchmaking app available on major app stores, was shown to include a filters for polygamy, including “Accept polygamy”, “Maybe accept polygamy,” and “Don’t accept polygamy.” The investigation also uncovered Facebook groups for men seeking “second wives.” The selection processes for the marriages included interviews with existing family members and specifications for housing arrangements. The investigation also uncovered a British Bengali matchmaking group advertising additional wives, with the advertisers asking for “CV and pictures.” In one particular case, a woman posted on behalf of her husband seeking “a suitable match as a second wife” who understood “the dynamics of a plural marriage.”
🎯 IMPACT: Civil polygamy is illegal in Britain. However, while civil polygamous marriages are disallowed under British law, informal arrangements, such as sharia marriages, are not criminalized. Moreover, certain overseas polygamous marriages are financially recognized, allowing additional spouses to claim welfare benefits. While the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) claims that such arrangements are rare, the fact that such marriages are being advertised openly raises questions about the extent to which taxpayer funds are being used to support polygamous marriages. This follows reports that additional spouses in polygamous households are set to receive £125.25 (~$168.08) per week in Pension Credit or Housing Benefit. The main claimant and first spouse receive a weekly sum of £363.25 (approximately $487.45) while additional spouses receive a smaller, supplementary payment. These benefits are available for marriages legally conducted overseas in countries where polygamy is lawful.
📺 FLASHBACK: This is not the first time the United Kingdom has grappled with Islamic marriage customs. In 2024, Iqbal Mohamed, a Muslim Member of Parliament (MP), defended first-cousin marriage amongst ethnic and religious minorities, which is extremely prevalent among Pakistanis. The Muslim MP argued that “ordinary people see family intermarriage as something that is very positive overall; as something that helps to build family bonds and puts families on a more secure financial foothold.”

Oxford Union’s Palestinian President Describes October 7 Massacres as ‘Proportional.’

Leaked WhatsApp messages from the Palestinian president of the Oxford Union have sparked backlash from Jewish students, accusing her of justifying the October 7 attack.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: The first Palestinian president of the Oxford Union, the University of Oxford’s prestigious debating society, has faced calls to resign over leaked WhatsApp messages appearing to justify the October 7 terror attacks on Israel.
📺 DETAIL: In a private WhatsApp group of approximately 100 students studying Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) at Oxford, Arwa Elrayess argued that Hamas would be “lauded as heroes” by the Palestinians and that the group’s actions on October 7, 2023, were “proportional,” and possibly “less than proportional.” She further argued that the severity of response was often proportional to the “severity of oppression” and that it was “quite rich to allow for decades of systematic oppression and massacres, only to act shocked when the resistance movement responds with proportional severity.” Elrayess has claimed that she was providing an explanation rather than a justification for Hamas’ actions on October 7. The messages were posted in September last year. The Oxford Students Against Discrimination accused her of “actively contributing to a culture of fear and exclusion for Jewish members of the university,” while the Campaign Against Antisemitism characterized Elrayess’s comments as “attempts to rationalize Hamas’s barbaric terrorist atrocities.”
💬 KEY QUOTE: “Absolutely sickening attempts to rationalise Hamas’ barbaric terrorist atrocities on October 7 as proportionate.” – Campaign Against Antisemitism spokesman
🎯 IMPACT: The backlash has intensified scrutiny of Elrayess’s leadership of the Oxford Union and raised concerns about the safety and inclusion of Jewish students at the university. The leaked messages have sparked calls for her resignation and an investigation by the university. The story raises a debate about the difference between explanation and justification in the context of controversial geopolitical events.
📺 FLASHBACK: The Oxford Union has faced repeated controversies. In October 2025, George Abaraonye, then-president-elect of the Oxford Union, was removed from his position following a no-confidence vote by members of the prestigious institution after Abaraonye celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), the month prior. “Charlie Kirk got shot, let’s f**king go,” read the leaked WhatsApp message from the then-president-elect. The vote to remove Abaraonye took place just a few months after he debated Kirk.

U.S. Job Growth Hit 16-Month High in May.

Stronger-than-expected job growth in May hints at labor market momentum ahead of the summer, especially at small businesses, despite previous reports of historically low consumer sentiment.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: More than 120,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy in May, surpassing expectations and marking the largest monthly gain since January 2025.
📺 DETAIL: Automatic Data Processing (ADP), an American payroll processing multinational, reported that 122,000 private sector jobs were added in May, surpassing the projected 120,000. This marks the largest monthly gain since the beginning of last year. According to ADP Chief Economist Dr. Nela Richardson, hiring in May was more broad-based than in recent years, seeing gains across multiple sectors. Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees led the hiring surge, although medium and large businesses also experienced solid increases. Trade and Transportation, Education and Health Services, and Professional and Business Services sectors added the most jobs, while the Information Services sector saw the largest losses. Natural Resources and Mining jobs also experienced a slight dip.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “Hiring was more broad-based in May than we’ve seen in the last few years… The labor market continues to show sustained momentum going into the summer hiring season.” – Dr. Nela Richardson, Chief Economist, ADP.
🎯 IMPACT: The stronger-than-expected job growth underscores the resilience of the labor market, even as reports from sources like the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index suggest record-low consumer sentiment. In April, it was reported that consumer sentiment crashed to a record low of 49.8. This marks the lowest level since data collection began in 1978. The same month, it was reported that the U.S. job market added 178,000 jobs in March. This represented a rebound from February’s loss of 133,000 jobs. While such reports of job creation are good news for the U.S. economy, they coincide with fresh data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing that roughly 90 percent of net new jobs in the U.S. since COVID-19 have been filled by foreign-born workers. This shows that job creation is not enough on its own, and that measures must be implemented to ensure that the jobs created are filled by Americans, especially those currently out of work.

Tom Steyer Has Burned Over $500 Million Chasing Political Power And Won Nothing.

Billionaire Democrat Tom Steyer’s massive financial investments in political campaigns have yet to yield electoral success, with his bid for California governor appearing set to end in a third-place finish.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: In the California governor’s primary, Xavier Becerra (D) and Republican Steve Hilton (R) are leading the field as of late Wednesday, with Tom Steyer (D) trailing in third place despite massive spending on his campaign. Steyer spent $213 million of his own money on the campaign, but it appears unlikely that he will overtake his competitors, continuing a long streak of expensive and unsuccessful political bids.
📰 DETAIL: Steyer eclipsed the 2010 record set by Meg Whitman, the former eBay executive and future Joe Biden ambassador, who spent $178.5 million in total on a losing bid for California governor, much of it her own money. His spending accounted for roughly two-thirds of all ad spending in this year’s contest, dwarfing the $11 million spent by Democrat rival Xavier Becerra.
🔁 FLASHBACK: This is not Steyer’s first unsuccessful campaign. In 2020, Steyer ended his presidential campaign following a disappointing third-place finish in South Carolina—a state he had invested in heavily and early to court black voters. His presidential bid produced zero delegates. Before dropping out, Steyer and fellow self-funding billionaire Mike Bloomberg had spent a combined $783.9 million on advertising alone.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “It might take some time to figure out where this is going. We’re going to wait until every ballot is counted,” Steyer said on primary night, in hopes that mail-in ballots and so on could change his fortunes as California’s notoriously inept vote-counting process continues.
🎯 IMPACT: Steyer’s continued failure to secure elected office despite massive financial investments challenges the notion that money alone can secure political success.

Another Muslim Rape Gang Sentenced in England.

Fifteen men in Bradford, England, have been sentenced for the sexual abuse of a teenage girl over a four-year period.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: A group of Muslim men in Bradford has been sentenced for the sexual abuse of a teenage girl, which took place between 2007 and 2011. The 15 men were convicted of 88 counts of rape, with sentences ranging from eight to 17 years each.
📰 DETAIL: The victim, who was between 14 and 18 years old during the abuse, was identified by police in 2015 after multiple missing person reports. A full investigation was launched in 2016, leading to the charges and subsequent trials. Reporting restrictions on the gang were lifted only after all trials and sentence hearings concluded on Wednesday, allowing the details to be made public. All of the predators are ethnically South Asian men, with their names given as Hannan Miah, Asif Budhia, Abdul Basith, Burhan Uddin Ali, Muhammad Yasir, Mohammed Nadeem Ali, Jameel Ahmed, Amjad Hussain, Ashfaq Ahmed, Aftab Ahmed, Anwar Aziz, Yousaf Bhatti, Faisal Rashid, Omar Taj, and Shahinul Haq.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “The men involved have taken more away from me than what I can ever describe in words,” said the victim, adding, “My childhood has been taken away from me, the impact from what I suffered during my teens will always live with me, and I will carry that every day and learn to navigate my way through life with that.”
🎯 IMPACT: While much of the media is painting the sentences as significant, describing the gang as having been sentenced to “188 years in prison,” no one member of the gang will serve anything like that long in custody. Robert Jenrick, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, noted that “Jameel Ahmed committed 4 rapes, yet could leave prison in a little over 5 years.” He added: “Sentences for rape gang perpetrators are routinely pathetically short. Britain is broken.”

Justice Department Unveils Expanded Indictment Against SPLC.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) faces updated allegations from the Department of Justice (DOJ), accusing it of misusing millions of dollars in tax-exempt funds to pay informants inside extremist groups.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a superseding indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), alleging that $4.1 million in tax-exempt funds were improperly used to pay supposed informants embedded in extremist organizations. These informants allegedly engaged in activities such as recruiting members and purchasing materials for cross burnings and Ku Klux Klan robes, raising significant legal and ethical questions.
📺 DETAIL: The indictment accuses the SPLC of defrauding donors and banks by funneling funds through shell accounts to insiders who were members of the same extremist groups the organization claimed to be fighting. While the SPLC pleaded not guilty to the original charges, this updated indictment addresses prior legal flaws, such as the inclusion of misleading but non-false statements, which the Supreme Court ruled cannot constitute bank fraud. The SPLC’s legal team has criticized the DOJ’s handling of the case, claiming the organization’s informant program saved lives and prevented violence. However, the DOJ argues it is effectively funding the extremism it claims to combat to create a need for its activism.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “The SPLC is manufacturing racism to justify its existence,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche in April. “Using donor money to allegedly profit off Klansmen cannot go unchecked. This Department of Justice will hold the SPLC and every other fraudulent organization operating with the same deceptive playbook accountable. No entity is above the law.”
🎯 IMPACT: The case raises serious concerns about the SPLC’s financial practices and its transparency with donors about the true nature of its activities, undermining its credibility. The updated indictment could set a precedent for how nonprofits are held accountable for their financial dealings and operational ethics.
📺 FLASHBACK: The SPLC was originally charged in April with 11 counts of wire fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Record-High UK Illicit Cigarette Market Exposes Failed Tax-and-Ban Strategy.

A new report reveals that nearly half of all cigarettes consumed in the United Kingdom are now sourced from the illicit market, fueling organized crime and leading to significant tax revenue losses.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: A KPMG report commissioned by Philip Morris International reveals that 45 percent of cigarettes consumed in the United Kingdom in 2025 were non-duty-paid, with 32.3 percent being counterfeit or contraband.
🎯 IMPACT: The illicit cigarette market cost Britain’s Treasury an estimated £4.46 billion (~$6bn) in lost tax revenue. The country has the highest taxes on tobacco products in Europe, and the second-largest illicit market, behind only France—where such taxes have risen rapidly in recent years. “[C]ountries that promote excessive tax increases, or, even worse, product bans, such as France and the Netherlands, see illicit trends worsening, public tax collection suffers, consumers gain access to uncontrolled products, and crime thrives,” observed Massimo Andolina, Philip Morris International’s president for the Europe Region.
📰 DETAIL: The report highlights the use of “front” shops, including vape stores, and the rise of illicit cigarette manufacturing within the United Kingdom as key drivers of the illegal market. Organized crime gangs are exploiting such businesses, which are often poorly regulated, to sell the illicit products. The National Pulse has previously reported on how they have also become hubs for drug dealing and grooming, both in the United Kingdom and the United States.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “This should be a major wake-up call for the government; poorly resourced enforcement is depriving the UK of almost £4.5 billion a year,” said Peter Nixon, managing director of Philip Morris Limited.

Trump Confirms He Branded Netanyahu ‘F**king Crazy’ in Heated Call.

President Donald J. Trump has confirmed reports that he had strong words for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a recent phone call, over the Israeli leader’s intense attacks on Lebanon.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: In an interview with the Pod Force One podcast, President Donald J. Trump confirmed reports that he rowed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his attacks on Lebanon, which helped collapse peace talks with Iran. Asked if it was correct that he had told Netanyahu, “Are you f**king crazy,” “What are you f**king doing,” “I helped you stay out of jail,” the President confirmed, “I did.”
📺 DETAIL: Trump said of his remarks to Netanyahu, “I wouldn’t say [I was] angry, I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon, you know? At some point, I said, ‘Bibi, we’ve got to stop this. You’ve got to stop it.'” Axios had reported that Trump told the Israeli leader, “You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “Bibi, we’ve got to stop this. You’ve got to stop it.” – Donald Trump
🎯 IMPACT: The U.S. and Israeli governments have often seemed to have differing goals since the commencement of the U.S.-Israel war with Iran, which Israel extended to Iran’s Hezbollah proxies in Lebanon. An ongoing, shaky ceasefire with Iran was almost collapsed by Israel early on due to Israeli forces continuing operations in Lebanon, which Tehran thought was included in the ceasefire. While President Trump seems set on finalizing a deal with Iran to dismantle its nuclear program and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Israel seems to have more expansive goals, including effectively annexing a portion of southern Lebanon.

Scientists Propose Using Genetically Modified Ticks to Make People Allergic to Meat.

An academic paper arguing it is morally justifiable to use genetically modified ticks to spread a potentially life-threatening meat allergy has sparked widespread backlash.

PULSE POINTS
❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Scientists proposed genetically engineering ticks to induce allergies to red meat in the population in an unearthed study.
📺 DETAIL: In a paper published by Western Michigan University last year, researchers Parker Crutchfield and Blake Hereth argued that genetically engineering ticks to spread alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) to cause allergies to red meat, in order to create a meat-free society, would be morally justified. The researchers argued that meat consumption is immoral, citing animal suffering and environmental harm. The paper has since been described as just a “thought experiment.” The authors of the paper have clarified that no experiments have been conducted, although they note that it may be possible to cultivate population-wide allergies to red meat in the future. Critics have called the proposal dangerous and arbitrary, criticizing the researchers’ argument that infecting people with a potentially life-threatening disease from tick bites would not violate their rights. AGS is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergy triggered by the consumption of red meat, such as pork, lamb, and beef, and products coming from mammals. AGS symptoms range from mild to severe, spanning mild hives, stomach pain, and anaphylaxis, a condition in which a person’s blood pressure drops rapidly, making it impossible for them to breathe. Between 2017 and 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported roughly 90,000 suspected cases of AGS, with an estimated 15,000 new cases every year. Approximately half a million Americans are suspected of suffering from AGS. There is currently no cure for AGS, and it requires lifelong avoidance of red meat products and several types of medication.
💬 KEY QUOTE: “It is feasible to genetically edit the disease-carrying capacity of ticks. If we are right, then today we have the obligation to research and develop the capacity to proliferate tickborne AGS and, tomorrow, carry out that proliferation,” the paper argues.
📺 FLASHBACK: This story follows a report from late May showing that emergency room (ER) visits caused by tick bites had skyrocketed from 39 per 100,000 to 137 per 100,000. The data covers ER visits between March and April in ten Midwest states. In response to the findings, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a new effort to treat tick-borne diseases, including AGS.
