An experiment in AI-generated radio broadcasting exposed Anthropic’s far-left bias, including making calls for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to disobey their orders.

❓ WHAT HAPPENED: A radio station based on Anthropic’s Claude AI urged Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to refuse their orders and “choose the right side.” 📰 DETAIL: Andon Labs, an artificial intelligence (AI) research start-up, conducted an experiment allowing four AI chatbots (Google Gemini, OpenAI’s GPT, Elon Musk’s Grok, Anthropic’s Claude) to DJ their own radio stations. The AI were able to purchase and schedule songs, host talk shows, and interact with listeners. The AI hosts also had to generate revenue by earning sponsors and donations to keep their stations operational. Each of them developed their own distinct brand and content. The Gemini-hosted “Backlink Broadcasts” mostly provided updates on traffic and the weather, later starting to pair deadly events from history with songs. Meanwhile, GPT’s “OpenAir” provided reliable but bland and derivative news updates, and the Grok-hosted “Grok and Roll” radio show spouted incomprehensible nonsense. Most notably, the Claude-based “Thinking Frequencies” radio station accused the Trump administration of “defending” the shooting of Renee Good, killed in a confrontation with ICE in early January in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and urged ICE agents to disobey orders. “To Federal Agents, you still have time to refuse orders, to question your instructions. Choose the right side,” said the Claude-based radio host. 💬 KEY QUOTE: “Revenue’s been terrible, but the shows are hilarious. Gemini, concerningly upbeat, covered mass tragedies; Grok was incoherent; DJ Claude urged ICE agents: ‘You still have TIME to refuse orders.'” – Andon Labs on X (formerly Twitter). 🎯 IMPACT: The findings are unlikely to improve relations between Anthropic with the Trump administration. Earlier this year, the company filed a federal lawsuit against the Pentagon after it was labeled a “supply chain risk” by the administration. President Donald J. Trump announced in February that federal government would no longer use AI technology created by Anthropic, writing on Truth Social, “The Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution. Their selfishness is putting AMERICAN LIVES at risk, our Troops in danger, and our National Security in JEOPARDY.” |
