Comedian Ricky Gervais has been forced to ramp up his personal security after a barrage of death threats from people furious about his anti-woke comedy.

Gervais – known for attacking most sides of the political and societal spectrum – has already taken security action with a ‘ring of steel‘ while traveling across the United States amid worries of being attacked or even shot. The comedian is now taking it one step further in preparation for his ‘Armageddon’ tour of the United Kingdom, set to begin Wednesday.

“Ricky has been made aware threats have been made to his life. His offices haven’t shown them to him, but have told him very disturbing letters have come in for him,” reports the British newspaper, The Sun. “Ricky is very aware of the dangers and he can afford whatever security he wants, so he thought it was a no-brainer,” the paper added.

One of the most “significant threats” Gervais received followed his so-called anti-trans jokes on his last stand-up special, SuperNature, which drew heavy criticism from LGBT activists.
